"On a brief return trip to NYC, we included Il Cantinori on this visit in remberance of good times, great food and style exhibited by the entire staff. On this occasion, the food was great as usual, the service a little lacking in attitude and caring. However, the fact that a customer was admitted wearing shorts and a t-shirt with the usual baseball cap atop his head told us to bid fond farewell to Il Cantinori.

I spoke to the Manager about the lack of standards. His reply was that he could not afford to offend "rich guys". I asked him if all of the other standards that made Il Cantinori a wonderful dining experience had also been jettisoned? His answer was "cute" but uninformative. You be the judge!"

"My first time. Perfect location, open to the street with a few outdoor tables when the weather permits, great Tuscany atmosphere. Very pleasant. Not too crowded when we were there for lunch. Didn't sample too many items on the menu. What we chose was simple and very good. However, there were flavor choices for the Tartufo...a real plus! Did not check wine list. We had a wonderful wait person, experienced and mature with a charming accent that added to the experience of Italy in New York. So delightful to walk into such a lovely place on a picture perfect street in such a lovely neighborhood on a beautiful and warm spring day."

"Il Cantinori was the best choice for our first dinner in NYC. Everything was AMAZING especially the food and service! They made you feel like part of the family from the first moment you walk in the door. Our server, Fabricio, was delightful and had us laughing all night. "I came here during Restaurant Week, and enjoyed a fabulous 3 course meal. For the appetizer, I ordered the portobello mushroom which was topped with cheese and was outrageously excellent. For my main entree, I ordered the steak with potatoes and it was cooked to perfection. The dessert I chose was a gelato topped with biscotti. The service was outstanding and we also ordered a bottle of Verdichio wine. Both my friend and I would come running back for more, loved this place and you will too!"

"Went for restaurant week with friends and none of us were disappointed. Place was packed, but we were still able to converse despite background noise. The beet salad appetizer, ravioli entree, and apple tart dessert were all excellent -- my friends loved their choices as well. The waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. "This was our 2nd visit, this time with a group of 8 friends. Everyone thoroughly themselves. The service was excellent. The food was very tasty. And the decor is lovely- floral arrangements that are outstanding throughout the restaurant, even on the way to the rest rooms. We will look for more reasons to be in the neighborhood and return to this very nice establishment."

"I went with my friend during Restaurant Week. The ambience is wonderful. Beautiful lighting and fresh flowers everywhere. And the service was great. But I found the food to be a little disappointing. Everything tasted good, but was kind of standard. My salmon with mustard sauce came with steamed string beans. Nothing special. In the end it didn't feel like it was worth the money."

"I went with my girl friends for Restaurant Week. The service was great - wait staff was attentive and very friendly. We all ordered the braised lamb and polenta as an appetizer which was delicious. I ordered the spinach ravioli as my meal. It was ok - it comes with little meatballs on top which I could have done without and replaced with additional ravioli. I got an apple tart for dessert which was not good but two friends ordered the hazelnut pie and liked it. There are less expensive wines on the wine list but not many. I would not go back as the standard menu seemed overpriced for what it was - pasta with cream or tomato sauce."

"This happened to be a Food Week visit, but two of us (out of five) ordered from the regular menu. All selections were excellent. The house wines sold by the glass were very well selected and a good value. Known for the beautiful flowers and decor and justifiably so. Service was excellent as well."

"We live very near Il Cantinori, and first ate there some twenty-five years ago. Unfortunately, for the first couple of decades we seldom visited because it seemed overpriced for mediocre food. For the past five or six years, however, each meal has been a pleasant surprise. It's still too expensive to be a regular dining spot for us, but Restaurant Week prices have lured us back. The food no longer disappoints, the service is excellent, and the staff seems more friendly than in the past. Also, the renovations the restaurant has made since their recent fire have made it brighter and more cheerful. We now look forward to our visits."
