"Another great meal at Kai (our 4th visit). Two highlights include a first course of risotto flavored with Spanish acorn-fed ham (Jamon Serrano) and a few slivers of white truffles, topped by a langostine that tasted like fresh lobster. Wonderful. 2nd course was even better, a goat meat torta. The plate had three sections, first a mound of tender goat meat the texture of good BBQ but delicately flavored with chimayo, then an orange-slice sized serving of Medjool Dates and Quince Jam, then a creamy yogurt flavored with Lavender & Spearmint Madras Curry. Also a soft biscuit ... so you pulled the biscuit open and layered the meat, dates/jam and yogurt and started eating. Maybe the best single item I've had at Kai's. Can't wait to return."

"The "Kai" restaurant was definitely a dining experience. The service, the food, and the ambiance exceeded our expectations. The service level from the entire staff was exemplary. "I have dined at The Phoenician, T Cooks, Lons, etc and the meal and experience easily surpassed all of them
Regarding the staff, from the Valet, Servers and Receptionist their level of attention was truly the "BEST".

We celebrated my Aunt's 90th birthday and I think it fair to say none of the other 89 can match the evening.

"After reading of all the outstanding reviews of the restaurant, my family and I were excited to dine at Kai for my birthday celebration. The restaurant not only met our expectations, but surpassed them as well! We have eaten at many fine dining and top-ranked establishments around the world; Kai is definitely at the top of our list now. Their service was probably the most notable feature. The synchronized serving (dropping and picking up the plates at the same time) was one of the nicest touches I have seen, in addition to their temperature controlled silverware and knowledgeable staff. Also, the Native American culture was pleasantly displayed in their decor, local food and flavors, & menus, which had individual watercolor paintings."

"Food was very tasty, however I was very disappointed in the service. At a restaurant of this caliber (and price point), I expect professional service. We were seated approximately 30 minutes later than our 9 pm reservation. The hostesses were not gracious at all about the delay. Also, when we were finally taken to the table it was not ready, we were taken back to the lobby area, and then brought back a few minutes later. Very amateurish and unprofessional. The table service was ok, not outstanding by any means, and a little slow."

"Service was impeccable throughout, the restaurant is on the smaller side but not overcrowded. Neither of us had wine, but chose instead to sample cocktails from the martini list, I highly recommend the aji mojito martini, like the original with a twist. We started with appetizers, my wife had the black truffle risotto which she liked, I had the goat meat torta, it was the best preparation of goat I've ever had in my life and certainly the highpoint of the evening for me. Dinner was buffalo for me and grouper for my wife, it was very good, nothing too memorable, though. I think we were full from the amuse bouche, bread, apps, intermezzo etc. Overall, a very good option for an upscale, romantic meal, interesting menu, great service."

"Kai never disappoints. If you want to impress someone this is the place to go. It earns its five stars without being pretenious and succombing to "status" dishes. "Truly one of the best dinners we have ever experienced!!!!! The creativity of the chef is amazing. Combining the traditions of the Native American people (seeds, spices etc.) was unbelievable.
Flavors I have never tasted before. We were fortunate to meet the Chef, also very gracious.

One of the best dining experiences we have ever had anywhere. The U.S France or Italy.
They really go above and beyond to make sure your dining experience is wonderful i.e. A
thank you note in our hotel room from Feliciano when we got back to our room after dinner.

Amazing and thank you again for a wonderful dining experience."

"The service, ambiance and attention to detail was outstanding - staff was very knowledgeable and attentive, but not "over the top".
Some of the food was a little disappointing, particularly the Grouper and duck. My wife's piece of Grouper was rubbery to the extent that it was difficult to cut even with the knife provided - she left most of it uneaten. This was discussed with the wait Captain.
The breast portion of my duck plate was chewey and non-descript. The rest of the duck plate was great.
The rest of the experience was wonderful. The wine recommendation was excellent with the meal."

"We had high expectations as my wife had received a $220 gift certificate for her birthday. We were seated at a table that rocked at least 4-5 inches when you touched it. We finally got moved to another table which was steady. No excuse for the first table even being in service. Lots of servers. Wine list and menu looked very good. Wine overpriced but OK. Food items very bland, no pop or zing. Not what we expected from this class of restaurant. Had oysters,(6), prepared 3 ways. None of the prparations had any acidity or fire. Very disappointing. Duck prepared 3 ways, only 1 way had any real flavor. Wife had Foi Gras, barely OK. Entre was Buffalo. It was good. The starch was wierd and not pleasant to look at. Creme Brulee dessert a disaster."

"We're from NYC and were in Arizona for a month on business. We had to try the restaurant after hearing all the acclaim...although we're not ones to base our tastes on what everyone else thinks, the overwhelming positive reviews prompted us to see if the restaurant was a once in a lifetime opportunity as it was heralded by some. The proximity to the Native American reservation and the incorporation of the desert theme/Native American foods was a nice touch. The food was good, not great...I think they could've knocked off $20 to the price per plate and I would've thought the place was reasonably price. The decor reminded me of being in someone's living room, which was not necessarily a bad thing, but not inspired either."

"Our reservations were for 815 and we were guests in the hotel. When we arrived we were told we would be seated late - but they would not offer a time frame. (a ploy to serve very expensive drinks in the lounge? as there were about 8 groups waiting). they kept assuring us we would be seated momentarily - we did not get seated until after 9! They could have called our room to advise us and they could have been honest about the wait. Once seated the service was excellent

The food was good but drapes were not properly hung in the dining room etc which shows lack of attention to details."

"The food, atmosphere and service were excellent. While the wine list was extensive it was overpriced. I understand and am used to wines often being priced more than double retail in a restaurant, however in this case some of the more available wines were about 4 or 5 times the cost retail. However, there were also some rarer bottles to be had, and while far overpriced a well-financed person could enjoy some less common wines.

I especially appreciate how attentive the staff were, and how much they accommodated our food preferences and tastes. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and the staff went out of their way to ensure we had a secluded, romantic table and that all our culinary needs were taken care of."

"This is an outstanding culinary experience. We dine at Kai two or three times per month. We were not able to dine outside this time as it was a bit cool for the Arizona folks. We ordered the grouper and the bison. Both were cooked to perfection.

We highly recommend Kai for a truly unique culinary experience."

"Fabulous experience. Different. Native foods incorporated. A "must do". The sommelier (Frank) is wonderful - his pairings were spot on. A dinner we will never forget. Only one small problem - a vegetable side dish was too salty. Evertything else - perfect. Absolutely perfect."

"The food was wonderful; I had the buffalo and it was the most tender piece of meat I have ever eaten. Our captain, Feliciano, and wait staff were superb. I really enjoyed being told the stories behind the food and menu artwork. That said, at $360 for a meal for two, Kai is WAY overpriced."

"The best meal I have ever eaten. The food was unbelievable, the service was attentive but not overbearing. My only two criticisms: we were seated in a small room with a small but loud (and vulgar) group (not the restaurants fault) and it seemed because we were a younger couple, we got less attention (ie served last even if we ordered sooner, it took several requests to get the somalier back to our table) than the other tables in the room--though they were still very attentive."

"Came to celebrate 50th birthday (party of 4)...excellent choice! Absolutely everything was delicious! They barely strike a balance between taking care of their guests and being a little too pretentious, watching the staff was like watching a well choreographed performance...though I have to admit that was fun! The extra off-menu tidbits from the chef were a nice touch.The dining room has a patio which offered a lovely evening view of the pools, river, expansive patio and fire pit below. Well worth the money. Highly recommend this as a special event venue for small group or to impress client. I don’t see this as a romantic hotspot as the seating is very open offering no cozy/private feeling."

"My wife and I were traveling in AZ and staying at the Wild Horse Sheraton. The evening was our second anniversary and our first experience at a 5 star restaurant.

From the moment we arrived, everything was first class, every member of the staff address us by name and our head waiter, David, provided an experience we will remember for a long time.

Every part of the experience was a choreographed display in service and each member of the wait staff was personable and professional.

The one down side of our experience had more to do with the layout of the restaurant. There was a birthday party in an adjoining room which was very loud and another (loud) private party had to go through the main dining room to their room. Otherwise p"

"We had a very good experience at Kai.Our chief waiter, Mr. Feliciano Vasquez, and his team,gave us incredible service. His menu knowledge and understanding of the indigenious ingredients that Kai uses in its interpretation of Native American Cuisine was very impressive. We had the twelve course tasting menu with wine pairings. The food was outstanding with one minor exception. The fois gras course was impeccable. My wife doesn't do fois and they substituted a lobster degustation which she enjoyed very much and was not an after thought. Wouldn't reccomend the wine pairings. We had 5 whites in a row and when mentioned to the Sommelier he substituted two bad Pinots in a row.I did tell the sommelier to pair the wines to his discretion.Mistake."

"For being a five star restaurant, I was not overly impressed with the menu and flavoring of the food. The restaurant was chosen to celebrate an anniversary and as an overall experience, I would say there have been other resort restaurants that provided a more memorable one.

The service initially was superb, however mid way through the meal, the water glasses were empty and my husband had to pour our last half bottle of wine. I noticed the restaurant seemed to pick up in terms of cliental and since we were one of the more "mature" tables already progressing through our meal, the attention quickly gravitated to newer patrons."

"This was simply one of the best culinary experiences of my life. The food was marvelous. The service was exquisite. The presentations were wonderful. The attention that was paid to every moment of the meal by both the wait staff and the kitchen was truly rather awe inspiring. My husband and I both agreed that Kai was one of the most unique and wonderful restaurants we have ever had the pleasure of dining at.

Our favorite dish was the squash puree and it's presentation. I felt like a little kid when it was presented, b/c the first thing I thought when the cotton candy melted into the soup was "Do it again!". The fact that it tasted wonderful made it even better."

"Kai never ceases to dissappoint. We have dined there on three separate occasions and have always had an exceptional experience both from a service and food perspective. The native American Indian atmosphere and food selection truly enhances the experience. "Kai is a unique dining experience. The location of the restaurant is perfect, with great views of the mountains and setting sun. The staff is knowledgeable and does a great job of explaining the cuisine, which is very different, using the local tribal spices and seeds. The staff bends over backwards to make sure everything is perfect. The food is memorable and we had one of the best meals ever. The wine list is phenomenal, with an excellent selection of wines by the glass and a great listing of all types of bottles. This is a special occasion kind of place as it is rather pricey, but worth every penny. We recommend going to dinner and staying at the hotel for the night.

There is a good reason it is a 5 star, 5 Diamond restaurant."

"Stunning views, amazing food, great service. I normally shun restaurants who pride themselves on artistic presentation of the food: for me, it's all about taste. In Kai's case, the flavor was outstanding."

"We are from NYC originally and have eaten at more then our fair share of fine establishments. While overall we'd recommend the restaurant it does lack a few things. The Vodka bar waiting area is a nice charming area with a warm inviting fire. Unfortunately this is the highlight of the ambiance. There is nothing visually stunning or remotely upscale once you've entered the dining area. From the incredibly drab curtains that look like they were an after thought to the plain walls and decor. Our waiter was knowledgeable but slow. Took our drink order but didn't show up with it till 20 minutes later? Took our food order literally 30 minutes after we sat down. Didn't get our appetizer till we had sat down for over an hour and fifteen."
