Lavandou Restaurant
For almost twenty years Lavandou has remained a charming French restaurant in Washington D.C.’s Cleveland Park neighborhood. Tucked in amongst unique storefronts on Connecticut Avenue, Lavandou's cozy glow and relaxed atmosphere lures its guests inside where they can enjoy fine southern French cuisine.
The cuisine at Lavandou is based on the essence and smells of Provence. This region along the French Riviera is famous for its rustic roots and uses only the most natural ingredients. Many of our dishes are created with tomatoes, roasted red peppers, eggplants and olives and are seasoned with fragrant garlic, rosemary, thyme and basil. These flavorful traditional dishes, prepared at length and with healthy, fresh ingredients are truly reflective of the Mediterranean style of “savior vivre.”
In the heart of Cleveland Park, Lavandou is conveniently located across from the Uptown Theater and close to the Cleveland Park (red line) metro stop.

"Had a party of 9 for a birthday celebration. Food was excellent. Great combo deal of 1 app + 1 entrée for $25. Wish this applied to the entire menu but its a great deal none the less - includes the hanger steak with choice of sauce which 3 in our party ordered, or choice or mussels, which 3 more ordered. Portions were very large, especially considering the $25 combo. Service for our group was very good, with water on the table before we ordered, listing the specials twice (one for each end of the table), bread baskets after we ordered. Appetizers came out in two deliveries one right after the other, and same with the entrees so that no one was waiting. Also had three deserts: mousse, profiterole, and apple tart - all very good"

"for a lovely spring evening, we sat at a window table because the window was open with nice weather. The restaurant was very busy but pleasant and efficient service. The food was disappointing. The opening course of pate was tasteless and the fish special, dorada, was overcooked and also tasteless. The hangar steak was okay but a bit stringy. Sorry - we con't be back just for the pleasant atmosphere."

"Although the sting was lovely, the service good, sadly the food was absolutely dreadful! The rilletts-pate plate, though a lovely presentation, tasted like dog food! The Salad Noisois was as tasteless as it looked dead. The salmon over salted and only acceptable. But for my $50.00 +gratutity lunch check, I expect much more than merely acceptable! Will not return! Too bad as we have s so few of GOOD French Bistros left around Metro area. This could be great if food was quality not dreadful! And a grand location off Metro and near the Nat. Zoo. Sad!"

"Three of us had dinner here on Easter Sunday,and as usual, the food was very good. Snails, mache salad and cucumbers rolls; lamb chops, salmon and seafood cassolette; as well as desserts were all just right! The service, however,this time was lacking. "Was in town to visit with our older son to visit our younger son (college student in DC area) over Easter holiday. Came to Lavandou for the their Easter special menu, and was very pleased with the experience. The appetizers (salmon tatare and potato/leek soup), lamb chops (all four of us chose this) and the desserts were very good to excellent. We were excited to be able to order some wine from a place we had visited in Bordeaux earlier in the year, which was excellent (and pricey). Overall, an very happy Easter dinner!"

"I am trying to eat vegan and there were not many choices on the menu for me - but the ones I ordered - mushroom medley for an appetizer and vegetarian plate for en entree were excellent. Note that I didn't quiz the waiter on whether they were truly vegan (absent of meat broth, etc). I had a coupon but the meal was still expensive - if I go back it will be just for an entree - no appetizer. We had to wait quite a long time for the bill."

"This place is so convenient from the Cleveland Park metro stop. Just a 2 minute walk. We thoroughly enjoyed everything. The lemon pie w/ homemade meringue was to die for!! If you order mussells, you get a whole pot! And they're the huge mussells not the puney ones. We couldn't even eat all of ours. We also had the roasted veggie app and it was amazing. We went here because we had a living social voucher. We will certainly be dining again...it really exceeded our expectations!"

"The evening at Lavandou was quite lovely. I invited two friends to celebrate my recent retirement. We all ordered from the specials for the evening menu and were delighted with our food. I particularly liked the fact that the waitstaff did not rush us from our table after we had finished the main course and were enjoying coffee.
The room was comfortably filled by 7:30 p.m. and this on a Tuesday evening! A real treasure for those wanting great food, a calm atmosphere and no pretention."

"We went to Lavandou after buying a Capitol Deal coupon and we'll be back, coupon or not. Service was very personal. Menu, while relatively small, was quite interesting and the dishes we had were very well executed. The restaurant itself is lovely. "This was our third visit to Lavandou in about 6 months. The first two visits were excellent. The menu has some good choices for my wife who is a vegetarian. Like our first two visits, the service was excellent. Unfortunately, the vegetarian pasta which my wife loved on our second visit, was seriously subpar this time. Pesto sauce had a bad aftertaste and the the wonderful assortment of vegetables in the dish on our previous visit were missing this time. New guy in the kitchen, or an off night???"

"Having been to this restaurant years ago, we were excited to get back and experience some delicious Provencal French cuisine. We found the food to be OK but not as flavorful as we had remembered. Wait service was very slow and seemed a bit overwhelmed. All and all it didn't live up to our memory or taste buds, but was still a fine meal and evening out."

"We came here for my wife's birthday. The website had made us hopefully for a good experience, but everything was even better in person. All of the waiters spoke French with us, which was a great start. And then the food was absolutely delicious. We will be back when we next visit DC. It is worth the travel away from the normal sites."
