Sotto Sopra is an Italian restaurant housed in a beautiful 19th century building just blocks north of Baltimore’s Harborplace on Charles Street. Sotto Sopra specializes in true contemporary Italian cuisine adapting farm to table. We buy local whenever it is possible. The perfect risotto, handmade pastas, roasted meats, local seafood, and regional produce are here for your total enjoyment.

"We enjoyed the rockfish and duck quite a lot, but the pasta was exceptional. Very good wait staff and food. Valet parking a real plus in this busy part of the city. We will definitely return to Sotto Sopra."

"the food is marginal. There are many great Italian places in Baltimore with much better food and service for the same money. our lunch was $110.00 with NO meat. plus a 32.00 parking ticket even tho we had one inthe window. We would not go back....."

"Right when we walked in, we were greeted with a smile and a warm atmosphere. Our server was amazing and super helpful with food and wine selection. Amazing pairing with my steak. Flavors were on point and complemented well with the side dish.

"On a street of charming, essentially un-restored turn of the century buildings and store fronts, we discovered a great restaurant, Sotto Sopra. From the quiet, refined interior, talented chef and attentive staff, we were served a delicious 2 course price fix lunch for $15.00 each, plus fantastic homemade desserts. We will be sure to return to this gem on Charles! Thank you!!"

"I had the Bronzino and it was very good! The calamari was good but salty and I like salt. A prosciutto appetizer with arugula was served warm and the prosciutto has a bad smell warmed. The Ravioli con Lobster filling and sadly the filling had an herb that overshadowed any lobster flavor and the filling was not delicate but dry and chewy. The deserts were okay, nothing special. My husband is from Northern Italy and we go there each summer for a month and the food it outstanding. I also make my own pasta a home and my tiramisu is much better. We paid a lot of money and felt so unsatisfied."

"I use to frequent Sotto Sopra several times a month, but hadn't been back for 5 or 6 years. I am happy to say that Riccardo and Monica still have the magic. The restaurant still looks beautiful, the staff were all personable and professional, and the food was delicious. My party had a lovely shrimp crostini to start, followed by sea bass, rockfish, and pork osobucco ... all were excellent. The wine selection is also quite respectable. I highly recommend it."

"I had not been to Sotta Sopra for years and years, so I was excited about going back. Overall, it was a good experience. We got there early on a Friday -- about 6. The hostess sat us in the middle of the restaurant next to the only other table that was filled. We didn't say anything (because I knew that in an hour the whole place would be packed) but it was still odd. It was a windy, chilling night and I had to ask that the front door be closed. They accommodated, but I still had to wear my coat for awhile. Irena, our waitress was good, albeit slightly inattentive at first. But she was very nice and had some good suggestions. I had the goat chees salad (good, but too many beets). The spinach ravioli was excellent. A nice experience."

"Service was great and the food was excellent. The murals on the wall were interesting and romantic. I ordered the rockfish and my wife ordered the veal ravioli, both were excellent. The food was presented as thoughtfully as it was prepared. I would recommend this restaurant for a romantic evening or when you are looking for gourmet food experience."

Waited for twenty minutes for staff to push two tables together for party of 5 - then another 10 for napkins and utensils. Bread brought to table, but we had to request bread plates.

"We came in for lunch on a Saturday and the restaurant was very quiet, with only three or four other tables seated. The setting had the very pleasing feel of a high-ceilinged bistro. Our waiter provided excellent and attentive service, and the $15 two-course lunch menu was a perfect portion size. The soft polenta garnished with snails was excellent and delightfully creamy, not at all like most polenta served at restaurants these days. The vegetable risotto was also very well prepared, and the sorbet that accompanied the pear tart had an excellent and dense mouthfeel which complemented the pastry. Even this small meal was already the best Italian food I've had in Baltimore, and I look forward to returning for dinner."

"Two of us had different experiences. I had a polenta/prosciutto/parm appetizer to die for and a very good, not great, veal tenderloin. My husband's grilled octopus was OK, not charred or distinctive. His veal Milanese was flavorless and boring, with no sauce to perk it up. We shared the pappardele, which he loved and I found satisfactory, but I thought the sauce was not much of a notch above Ragu. He thought his tiramisu was outstanding and liked his coffee gelato. His cappuccino was fine. The veal tenderloin was prepared sous vide, which meant I couldn't get it rare, and it was also unsauced. Plain meat, unless you are talking about a great steak, is unexciting and it could have used a little something to add flavor."

"Only excellent things can be said about Sotto Sopra. The food selections cover every palate. I cannot wait to go back just for the Caesar Salad! My husbands Calamari was so good he was going to order it again for dessert! The menu selections are so varied that everyone can find something and every meal I've had there has been great. Service is perfection too. What a great venue. Mt. Vernon is beautiful and parking is easy but they have valet for those rare occasions if you can't find a spot. This is a special place, with a special menu, and a special team to serve you. The owner is always finding ways to give back to his staff and his community. It's the full package. If you haven't been to Sotto Sopra, you're really missing out"

"It was our first time dining here. We wanted Italian, and I picked this place randomly off of Open Table. I have to say it was the best Italian meal I have ever had. The food was fresh and very tasty. The pasta was fresh, even the bread was amazing. The waiter made a great suggestion from the wine list, and there is a parking garage right around the corner. And best of all, the prices were VERY reasonable for a meal and service of this quality. I was shocked at the bill when it came, but in a positive way. :-) My only con is something that the restaurant can't control... noise. It was very livey and noisy. I preffer a quieter dining experience when I eat out, but again, nothing I will hold against the restaurant. We will be back soon!"

"The food at Sotto Sopra was excellent and the service was quite good as well. We had a slight problem when we arrived on time for our 7 PM reservation when the hostess said we couldn't be seated as the table occupants were finished, but not leaving. After some discussion we agreed to be seated at the bar as we had no idea how long the people would be. When we got to the bar we saw two unoccupied tables and were told they were reserved, one for party of 5 and one had specifically requested in their reservation. Since they were not there, we made our displeasure quietly known to the hostess who spoke with someone and then seated us at that table. We were pleased at that, but an unpleasant start."

"A beautiful restaurant, well worth the drive in from the suburbs. Food was delicious and creative without being over-the-top. So many items we would have liked to try, but our meals were perfect. Caesar salad presentation was pretty cool. My pumpkin-filled pasta with sausage crumbles topped by a cream sauce was so good I will go back just for that. Was surprisingly light, and the portion was just right. Service was attentive without being overwhelming. Valet parking made it easy to get in and out of. Highly recommend!"

"One of our very favorite restaurants here in Baltimore: great food, friendly service, romantic ambiance. My wife order the roast lamb while I opted for the saltimbocca di vitello. I really liked the saltimbocca but the roast lamb was really out of this world. The desserts were truly amazing as well. An outstanding dining experience!"

"Sotto Sopra is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. The slightly dark, candle-lit dining room makes it a perfect spot to enjoy a romantic evening. The food is always delicious and unique. Be sure to try their seasonal featured dishes, like the hearts of palm salad. With roasted beets, shaved fennel, arugula, goat cheese fritters and a delicious tangerine dressing, it was hauntingly good. Their regular menu items are reasonably priced and portioned appropriately. The service is amazing; friendly and attentive."

"The evening started slowly as we had to wait almost 1/2 hour for our table after making a reservation in advance. The food was less than steller and even disapointing. The otopus salad was more salad than octopus. Also the wrong appetizer was brought to the table. The orata special, while interestingly desribed per menu, did deliver as expected and the presentation with head was extermely unattractive. The crispy bronzino plating was too busy and overeaching in its attempt to be satisfing. Additionally the fish has a "fishy" smell which is never appetizing. The pasta whith wild musroom ragu was very delicious and satifying (probably the only bright spot of the meal). Service was also very good and pleasant thoughtout dinner."
