"One of my favorite restaurants. Excellent food, quality service and a nice atmosphere where - and this a rare find in Manhattan - you can actually have a conversation at a normal voice level. You need a little time however, because it is the opposite of fast food. But then again, everything is freshly prepared."

"My friend and I had a wonderful night at Megu last Monday. We each did a tasting menu and the food was excellent. The courses were well paced and beautifully presented. Our waiter, I can't recall his name exactly, Tarih (something like that) was so nice, attentive (but not overbearing--just right) and he made excellent suggestions for wine & food. We met the manager and the head sushi chef and they were so nice too. Everyone seemed to really care that we had a great time. I would absolutely go back!"

"Bad food, terrible service, the waiters didn't even remember what we ordered. Compared to their price, it's totally not worth a try. We spent the most unhappy birthday dinner with our friends. If you value your time and money, do not even think of coming."

"Service was terrible. 3 different people asked us what type of water we would like. No one knew what the other was doing. Our food took an absurdly long time to come out, even though the restaurant was not very busy and we ordered sushi which does not require any cooking time. The table next to us got the wrong food as well."

"Food was satifactory but more effort spent on presentaton and less on taste. Found the service by the girl at the front desk extremely lacking. Arrived early and was led to an upstairs lounge where we were served once by a very helpul waiter but then abandoned. We eventually went to investigate when our table would be ready to be met with a smirk (the restaurant was nearly empty so why we'd been left so long is a mystery). We both felt the girl at the front desk was being rude towards us, we had come with a voucher purchased off travel zoo so maybe that was the reason why. It put us off spending any more money with them and left as soon as we could. Location of restaurant is also terrible withe no other bars/ life around it."

"Anniversary dinner on a quiet Sunday evening, lovely setting, exquisite food and presentation. Service was perfect, not too overbearing but was there when you needed anything. Staff was friendly too and knowledgeable about the large Sake menu. We would definitely return. After reading some reviews beforehand, I was a little afraid we'd be waiting for a table, or a long time to be served but was pleasantly surprised. Maybe it's different on Fridays or Saturdays but this dinner was perfect!"

"Once you get over the sticker shock and realize Megu is not your neighborhood sushi joint, you'll enjoy yourself. The ambiance is tranquil, the service courteous and the food is superb. Prices can be astronomical ($180 for a nine-ounce Kobe steak), but expect about $100-120 per person (without drinks) if you're not too excessive. I recommend the endamame soup and the crispy asparagus, along with various tartars as appetizers. The sushi is incredibly fresh and melts in your mouth in a complexity of tastes. The desserts are fun (share the sampler). The presentation is a work of art."

"This restaurant is gorgeous and the food was very goood - unique and artistically presented. The wine list was large but very expensive so we ordered by the glass and not a lot. The service the night we were there was very poor. The were multiple servers and managers around but none of them were communicating and our main server was not commanding our table of six. It took a half hour (to 45 minutes for one of us) to get drinks. Dinner was another hour + to wait after that."

"Very good but very expensive, unless you go for their prix fixe dinner. Cooked food is top notch, sushi is very good, above average, but regular. Very good service and upscale ambience. A very pleasant evening!"

"Came at around 9pm for dinner, sat down in the cramped booth, and waited....and waited...and waited. It was a good 40 minutes until a waiter came up to our table to get our drink order. It took another 15-20 minutes for our bottle of sake to come. We had been in the restaurant for an hour before we ordered food. Luckily I had great company to keep me busy. Our waiter was nice, but the restaurant was clearly understaffed.
The food came and was lackluster to say the least. Ordered a few skewers, sushi, "kobe" beef, and their chicken. I honestly can't even review the food because I only had a few bites of each. I grew a little more disappointed after each and every bite. I would rather take out $300 in singles and watch it burn"

"Forget Nobu. MEGU is where to go for AMAZING authentic Japanese food. You are first captivated by the Architectural Digest worthy oversized decor when you walk in the door. Across the street from the UN in the Trump building the restaurant gets an A just on looks alone. The food is so beautifully presented you almost dont want to eat it. Each morsel of sushi melts in your mouth emanating subtle flavors. The edamame soup and asparagus appetizers are some of my fave dishes. Go and enjoy!"

"Our experience could not have been more excellent. From being seated to paying desert, the service was attentive yet unobtrusive. For a true sense of the Megu dining experience, go for the Omakase menu. The food not only divine, it so exquisitely prepared and presented. Notable mentions include their signature Crispy Asparagus and Tempura. Highly recommended for celebrations, or just great dining!"

"For the price I expect to be blown away. 1st dish was the "signature" Megu tuna. Basically, it was some avocado (that had been precut and was sitting out - which was obvious from the fact that it was black) mixed together with some tuna. The tuna was average at best, I think I've had better at the local sushi take out. Among other standouts (for negative reasons) was the kobe skewers - tasted boiled and for $60something were completely awful. We ordered a lot, but these two items stood out for the worse - everything else was mediocre at best. Service was eh - this particular waiter didn't belong in this place, nor did I appreciate his attempt at wittiness. Will not be returning."

"Service was so slow that after 2.5 hrs we had only had our first 4 out of 7 courses. We had to leave with out finishing our meal. They gave us a 20% discount but for eating less than 80% of our meal I feel cheated. Food that did come out was good though. Service was not so good. Waiters and service staff seemed like it was their first day."

"Our evening did not start out that well, as we booked a reservation for 5:30, arrived a few minutes early 9as we always do) only to be told they changed their hours to 6pm since we made our reservation 2 months ago. WHY WERE WE NOT TOLD? So we had no alternative but to sit in the hallway for 30 minutes. Once we sat down, the service (Charles was fantastic), food and ambiance was everything I expected. I could not give the establishment my highest marks because of the reservation mixup.I expected something (maybe a free cocktail) for our patience and trouble but none was offered.I noticed several exceptional service awards in the hallway...that was not how you treat a couple who paid over $300 for a meal."

"A little too pricey for what you get, even though the food is quite well done. The wait between courses is unreasonable. Took 4 people 2 hours to have a 3-4 course meal. No reason for that."

"We had the restaurant week dinner menu. The appetizers and desserts were OK and the kobe beef and omakase were outstanding, but evening was spoiled by rushed service: plates were snapped up while diners were still chewing, and the check landed unbidden in the middle of dessert. This would be OK for a quick working lunch, but not for a relaxed evening."

"Everything was amazing except the portion size. The food was fabulous and the service was excellent. I left hungry. It would not have killed them to give me a piece of fish 20% larger. The bill was over $250 for four people."

"I made the reservation at this restaurante thinking that it was part of the NY Restaurant week, to my surprise when the check came I noticed that it was not the case, I could not complaint at that moment because I was with my friend that i was inviting, but I clearly asked at the entrance that we wanted the menu of the restaurant week. While the food was good, the service was slow and I have to request for a water refill. It is a very expensive restaurant, that of course, will not be able to return."

"Overall, it was like going to an OK restaurant, but paying too much for it. And that was with the restaurant week deal! The food was well-prepared, but unimpressive. The decor was fancy, but sterile. To top it off, the place was freezing. Specific food criticism: "Chef's Omakase" sushi was bo-ring: tuna, salmon, yellow tail? That's called the "sushi dinner deal" at most restaurants. There were two more interesting pieces, but c'mon. The "Kobe" steak was far from Kobe quality. But it's flambeed! Of course, lighting mediocre steak on fire just gives you flaming mediocre steak. The "yuzu" creme brulee - had ONE BITE with yuzu flavor. Pathetic. Overall, we left hungry and completely unimpressed. Definitely skip this place."

"Went for restaurant week and it was great! All the food was delicious (although the MEGU cheesecake is lightly wasabi flavored, so don't order it if you don't like wasabi!). All of the staff was very attentive and knowledgable, although we had an early dinner on a holiday weekend, so it wasn't too busy yet. But unlike some other restaurants, they put their best / most popular dishes on the restaurant week menu and encourage you to order from it instead of making you ask for it in order to get the deal. Also, the steak is cooked by lighting it on fire in front of you, which is always fun! :)"
