Zely & Ritz is all about fresh, organic, locally grown dishes served in tapas style small plates in an upscale, casual, yet hip and smoke-free environment. Named as one of the Top 20 Organic Restaurants in America by Organic Style Magazine, the ingredients for over half the menu come directly from the restaurant's own organic farm. "This was my first time dining here (March 2010). I am sorry that I did not dine sooner!! The food was outstanding. Escargot, risotto, desserts - all amazing. I will be back again and again. I love the fact that they use local and organic ingredients whenever possible. I wish more restaurants did that."

"The first and only complaint that I have is that the seating is not very good, and they don't have much. I had a pork dish and my wife had the special vegetarian option, both were excellent. I don't quite remember the details for the vegetarian option, but the pork was in a coffee and beer sauce. The main reason for going though was not necessarily the taste of the food, but to support local, organic based agriculture. If you are looking for a restaurant that does not use factory farmed meats, then this is one of the few choices in the triangle. The prices were very reasonable, except for the polenta, which was an $8 side that is gigantic and very rich. The polenta was more of a soup than the usual patty style."

"Superb food -- truly a special place with regard to the food they prepare and serve. They use locally-grown foods as much as possible (they have a partnership with a local farm). The presentations were really nice and everything tasted wonderful. They have a very good and complete wine list; they also serve some interesting beers and cocktails The restaurant is clean with simple, yet elegant, decor. It was not very busy the night my party was there, so it was fairly quiet. I imagine that, if every table were full, it might be a bit noisier, but not too bad. Great attention to details throughout!"

"Generally, the food was underwhelming. We did the tasting menu. The seafood items were pretty good, but the brisket was overly fatty and the steak tough. Polenta and risotto were pretty pedestrian. Creme brulee and other desserts passable, but not particularly memorable. May have been a function of the volume of people in the restaurant (night before Valentine's Day). They might produce more consistent quality if they reduced the number of tables."

"The menu was great for Valentines Day. The chef did a great job thinking about some great options! The service while great was just a little wierd. Maybe this is just me but I was really not sure how to go about the whole process of ordering. Its just nice when servers remember that not all 20 somethings have been to nice restaraunts and are just to the point where they are earning enough money to do so. We are your future customers so it would be good to help us out a bit."

"We arrived at the restaurant at our reserved time and found there was no hostess at the front so we had to wait a few minutes to be acknowledged by any of the staff. We were then seated and completely ignored for more than 15 minutes. In that time, other couples were seated on both sides of us (practically in our laps). The tables were entirely too close together and you were forced to whisper to one another in order to have any sort of private conversation. Once the server decided to grace us with her presence, she failed to even apologize for ignoring us the previous 15 minutes. The food was fair, but it would have to be outstanding for one to put aside the poor seating and even worse service. The only highlight was the wine."

"I was so happy as a vegetarian to actually have more than one option on a menu! Everything was well executed, creative and satisfying. It is the best meal I have had in a restaurant in a very long time. There is a selection of locally grown foods; also a plus. The only issue was confusion about the pricing-one member of my party was charged for a meal with 5 courses, but hers only had 3, definitely not worth the price charged; however we didn't notice it until we left and think it was just a mistake on the part of the server. This in no way will keep me from returning. The wine selection was also good and went well with the food offered. The server was knowledgeable about all the menu items and was very attentive."

"This was our first visit Zely and Ritz. We wanted to try their anniversary tasting menu. We very much enjoyed our meal and our vast selection of items to try. My favorite was the vegetable course, especially the butternut squash risotto. The wine pairings were also very enjoyable. The fish course did not seem to be portioned well for splitting (the anniversary tasting menu is designed for 2 people). For example, in a dish for 2 people why include 2 shrimp? Why not 2 or 4? We didn't mind splitting the 3rd shrimp but found ourselves wondering about the numbers of items not exactly congruous with a meal designed for two. Overall we enjoyed our meal and look forward to returning in the future."

"I have visited Zely & Ritz twice now and definitely plan to return. The food and service were excellent, and the wine list is remarkable. In particular, you can taste how fresh the ingredients are, and the food flavors are very unique and sophisticated. The restaurant itself has a nice ambiance, making it perfect for an romantic dinner or just to go out to enjoy some great food with friends. The waitstaff are excellent in making recommendations, particularly when it comes to deciding which wines complement each dish."

"Very good dining experience - but plan on taking your time. This shouldn't be a surprise. It's a nice quaint place that you can hold a good conversation. Fresh ingredients with a rotating menu for the season, so great for the foodie trying new items. Chef uses local ingredients and plays very well to what is in season. Salads were wonderful, and sides were excellent. My wife's lamb dish was absolutely one of the best lamb dishes I've tasted in my life - tender, full of flavor. The gnochi was very good as well, though the pork shoulder I ordered was good, but forgetable. Out of 2 salads, 2 sides, and 4 entrees, the pork was the only dish I wouldn't order again. So overall, a very quality restaurant that we plan on going to again."

"The place was nice but the food was horrible and very small portions for the price $$$. We had the steak and that piece of meat we got was the worse i ever had. All around the menu is small and i would not go there unless you plan on having Desert and Wine ONLY. They do have great Deserts and good Wine, but food wise not the best in town (or even close to it)"

"This was our first visit to Zely and Ritz, and I would definitely go back. The food was fresh, inventive and delicious, and the atmosphere was modern but not cold. My only complaint is that the tables are very close together so private conversations are a bit difficult, but it's like that in Paris, so just pretend that you're there! YUM, YUM, YUM!"

"We chose Zely and Ritz for my birthday dinner, as I had been wanting to go for ages. It was a Tuesday night, so the fact that there were only a few other tables occupied was expected. The wait staff was very friendly, and the food was served in a timely manner. The wine was also very good. My boyfriend ordered the beef brisket, which left much to be desired. First, he was given the wrong dish, which was the osso busso that was 80% fat. Then they realized the mistake, and out came the brisket. It was tough, and did not fall apart like a "twenty-four hour" brisket should. Great ambiance, but avoid the meat! I wanted to love Zely & Ritz, but the meat issue just wouldn't allow it."

"Everything was wonderful. The goat cheese appetizer was to die for! There was only one wait person for the entire restaurant (during the time I was there) and she did a really great job."

"The food was excellent - we love being able to get a great local, organic meal. The weekly special is a great deal; otherwise is it kind of pricey since the menu is a la carte. I like the serving size - they really are single portions (e.g. about 3 oz. of meat), not the double or triple portion sizes that most restaurants serve."

"The best deal in Raleigh is the $25/person First Friday set menu. For 25 bucks you get an appetizer, entree and desert. My friend and I collect all our change and if we have 100 bucks together at the end of the month we go to Zelys and for the First Friday menu and have enough for either a bottle of wine (least expensive = fantastic here) or a couple of the amazing cocktails that the bartender Jay is a genius at making. We always meet new friends when we go because the seating is arranged so you can either be alone with your date or share your amazing food experiences with the people sitting next to you. The shrimp ceviche this month made me forever grateful that I have taste buds."

"My wife and my first visit to Zely and Ritz was a great experience! We travel extensively all over the world, and enjoy dining. Z+R has a very interesting menu and a fine and interesting wine selection. The presentation was fabulous, and the tastes intense and unique.
