"We visited from San Francisco & found that the cuisine & service were first rate. We spent a good amount of time talking with the sommelier, who was friendly, knowledgeable and obviously putting a great amount of effort into developing their wine program. Our party of 4 included some demanding patrons & Stella!'s staff rose to the occasion. The best meal we had all week in New Orleans, including some other well known restaurants."

"WOW! The exclamation point in the name is well deserved. This restaurant is one of the best in the land. The creativity of the dishes is unparalleled (for example, Captain Crunch is an ingredient in one of the entrees - and it works!). Mere words cannot do justice. You have to go experience Stella! for yourself."

"This was my first time to NO and we had reservations at many great restaurants (Nola, Herbsaint, Cochon)during our week stay but this was by far my best experience. The salmon dish was over the top good and the service was impeccable. The sommelier did a good job helping us pick a wine to go with our meal. This is fine dining at it's best! Bravo to entire team at Stella!"

"My husband and I went to New Orleans from Memphis for my birthday and our anniversary. I wanted to go to Stella again as we have eaten there several times but it has been over 5 years. It was absolutely one of the best meals (Butterfish) we had there and that is saying something for a meal in New Orleans. The waiters were wonderful, the dining room was pretty and the food was superb. Even the dessert and coffee was great. I will always try to eat there on any future trips of which we hope will be numerous."

"Stella!??? STELLAR!!!!! Far exceeded our high expectations. We four opted for the tasting menu though we did not get the paired wines having all ready started with a bottle of the wine paired with the first course. I could twice say the plates were extraordinary without repeating myself. Obviously, the food shone brightly. But the plates themselves, the china, were amazing in their graceful and whimsical style. Such were the touches that went into an exceptional evening. Insofar as the menu changes daily, I won't detail the meal other than to reveal that our dessert was finished with a Nutella Captain Crunch explosion! Must mention that one does pay for this excellence. Our half of the bill, with tip was over $300. I'd do it again, though."

"Stella is the epitome of what special occasion dining should be. The food is inventive and uniformly spectacular, although the desserts (we had the dessert sampler) underwhelmed us. Highlights were...well, everything we tried. The beet salad, citrus salad, and anago (eel) fish & chips were probably tops. The walu (fish) was solid. Service was extremely attentive, friendly, relaxed and well-paced, and the space is traditional yet vibrant. We've seen reviews saying that Stella! takes itself a bit too seriously, but that wasn't our experience. It's clearly a favorite of foodies, but didn't seem overly pretentious. As long as you're prepared to spend the minimum of $100 per person, it's belongs at the top of your NOLA dining list."

"The food is outstanding, although the portions are small. My risotto appetizer would have fit in a soup cup (not bowl). The service is excruciatingly slow. It took ten minutes just to get a menu and a 3-course meal clocked in at just under two hours."

"Stella was another recommended New Orleans hot spot that lived up to the hype. The service was impeccable and I was impressed with the knowledge the young server had about the different types of fish. Foie Gras and Lobster with black truffles were perfect starters. Wine list was outstanding and reasonable for a restaurant of this quality. I would certainly put Stella on the list for best meals ever. This is a hot spot so make a reservation. Don't just show up and think they can get you in. we saw several groups attempt this without success. As I have noted in other reviews of New Orleans restaurants, Stella is small so the tables are close together. There is going to be some noise. Accept it, sit back and enjoy the great meal!"

"Food amazing but service was aweful for a restaurant with this reputation! First they asked us about water and then handed out menus. NEVER asked about whether we wanted a drink.........had to call over waiter, who was hard to find...to ask if we could order drinks. Bread brought only after we asked after we had finished appetizers. Never asked about refills to drinks........always had to try and find and then ask and they responded with an attitude. Then dessert......never offered coffee or tea and brought truffels AFTER we paid check. Never, in all the years of enjoying great restaurants did we ever have horrible service like this with food sooooo good!"

"After reading all the reviews, I was prepared to be blown away by Stella. While the food was very good, I found the entire experience to be extremely snobby. It was so quiet and the staff seemed so pretentious, I had a hard time enjoying myself. We had meals at NOLA, GW Fins and Commander's Palace that were all just as good that week. But the atmosphere and the attitude of the staff at those restaurants were superior to that of Stella. For ex. I asked a question regarding the broth for a sea bass dish to see if there was sherry in the broth. The waiter scoffed at that and replied it was sake like I was an idiot. I just felt the whole placed needed to lighten up and let diners enjoy the meal."

"I dine here whenever I am in New Orleans--it is one of my favorite restaurants in a city known for great cuisine. The Duck Five Ways is always spectacular, and it was again on this occasion. "Stella you were a gem on our recent trip during Mardi Gras week. Cabs quit running out there and we had to walk! It was worth every step. Staff was very informative about menu and food was perfect. Beautifully plated and just as perfect when eaten. Place became festive with the "Saints" music and champagne toast as owners were in the house!!! Lots of good memories! Thanks!"

"My husband and I went to Stella during our 20th anniversary stay in New Orleans. I liked that it wasn't in the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter but was nearby enough to walk.

We didn't have the chef's tasting special. The key ingredient to the Chef's Special was Winter Truffle. While we like truffle, I wasn't interested in having it every course.

The most interesting thing we had? Sorbet, BASIL sorbet. It was a refreshing surprise!"

"Stella was a destination point for all those who are in the French Quarter, the menu was super and the ambiance was great. Service was impecable and the experience will be long remembered. The chef's had just created a new menu and it was hard to choose what our group of five wanted. It is pricy but it is a four star restaurant in my books.

"Nothing less than Amazing!!!! A very comfortable place with very comforting and orginal food. The Winter Truffle tasting menu was perfection. The waitstaff performed with military discipline and yet they were as personable as being served by family. Although the dining room was crowded and energetic, it was easy to feel like you were alone. I can't wait to go back."

"Stella is in my top five restaurants at which I have eaten. The gnocchi appetizer was delicious, and my tandoori-roasted king salmon entree was beautiful and tasty.

The service was top-notch. Not too fussy or intrusive, but more than adequate.

I will certainly eat here again next time I am in NOLA."

"Excellent service. Food was hit or miss. I saw some negative reviews of the duck five ways, but found the dish enjoyable. Wasn't completely amazing, but 3 of the 5 "ways" were pretty darn good. I'd go back if I were to marry well and suddenly be fabulously wealthy, but it's not worth the cost for someone who is stingy about dropping $200 on a dinner more than once a month."

"I marveled at the attention to detail (the staff handled cutlery while wearing gloves, the menus were printed daily, we were offered amouse-bouches for the first time in this trip, etc.). Their choices were very good, maybe even extravagant, including a tasting menu for $175 per person, with recommended wine pairings and a caviar menu offered separately. We ordered a la carte, and our food was not only exquisite, but its presentation was superb. The desserts were also extraordinary, both in taste and presentation.

Finally, I would have to say that the best part of the experience was the service: Nathan our server, was very nice and attentive, and John the Maitre d' was charming and engaging. Absolutely the best in New Orleans."

"A poor man's French Laundry and worth every penny. Great meal and great service though the head sommelier was not working. The Assistant Sommelier was poor. Her knowledge was rudimentary, here attention to detail lacking, and on a night where nearly half the tables were empty she was slowwwwwwwwww responding to our needs. Everything else was fantastic overall. This was our second time to Stella's and we will definitely go back."

"Overall we had an excellent experience at Stella! The service was professional and not intrusive. The food was very good with some unique interpretations. Being from California the wine list was decent - not exhaustive but priced a little too high. We have good sources for great wine out west and don't mind paying a small premium for wine served well. Stella! was a pushing it a bit. The appetizer- a potato puree bisque was delightful and appropriatley portioned. The beet salad was a unique presentation with a twist we had not encountered before - the beet honey was a bit too sweet for our tastes but we appreciated the beet sorbet in the center of the salad which was pleasantly refreshing. Our entrees were excellent and dessert was a hit!"

"A superb experience. Although we didn't avail ourselves of the tasting menu, we devoured it on the menu. Be prepared for inventive and well executed dishes. Course size was on par with many tasting menu-oriented locations (appropriate for a taste, not a feast), even for the a la carte items, so it may be advisable to consider a few options rather than relying on one main course. Excellent recommendation from the sommelier. Everything was wonderful but I think our favorites were the beet salad and the cheese and chocolate ganache sandwich (a semi-sweet/savory desert)."

"A very good restaurant. From the presentation and preparation you can tell the high level of skill and amount of time that the kitchen puts into each course. Some combinations sound strange, but the ones that I had worked well. "This was, quite simply, one of the best meals I have ever eaten. The menu offered plenty of choices and a great deal of creative use of ingredients and flavor combinations without being over the top with ingredients that you can't pronounce or have to ask what they are. Great wine list with a variety of prices. If I could have given 4 1/2 stars for service and ambiance, I would have. The only problem with the service was that we had 3 different servers, and it seemed like a bit much. But the service was very unpretentious, which is important to me. A great evening. We will definitely be returning on future trips to New Orleans."

"One of the top 3 meals I have ever had in my life, and I have eaten at some very nice restaurants. It may even top my meal at Gary Danko's that used to be my number one. But, the ambiance is one of the worst I have ever seen. Tiny bar, that was a ghost town, uncomfortably quiet, and dark. I understand they are trying to make it a special occasion type of restaurant, but me and my business partner felt so uncomfortable in the dim, eerily quiet dining room that I will probably never go back....so sad since these are some obviously talented chefs."

"I hate to be a party pooper BUT, I was extremely disappointed. The most positive thing I can say about Stella was the location and ambiance. The two signature dishes I ordered did not live up to expectations. Duck Five ways should have been duck two ways. The 3 other preparations were very weak. The BLT Foie Gras was bland, simple and made absolutely no sense. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were surround by young and seemingly inexperienced staff. There did not seem to be an adult in the room. I believe this led to mistakes, such as butter being put on our bread plates but no rolls( We had to ask), or a desert menu being thrust into my hand LITERALLY seconds after my main dinner plate was removed. I was still chewing!"

"The food is great, but a little over the top. In my opinion the chef tries too hard to show off the food. "BLUF: Very satisfied-Will return! The Pros: Absolutely delicious food-brilliantly prepared!! (We had the crab and citrus salad and gnocchi starters and butter poached lobster and scollop/shrimp entrees. Portion sizes left us no room for dessert!) Tables were far enough apart to give your table the feel of being the only one in the restaurant (although you could hear the others around you). Beautiful floral arrangements. Extremely friendly and personable service. The Cons: Wish the wait staff would describe the dish again when presented - it is nice to be refreshed on the details of the plate in front of you and how you should enjoy it best. Parking at the hotel next door was $5 (not bad...but would be nice if the restaurant validated!)"

"Thoughtful reinterpretation of classic Southern dishes, plus some interesting new ones. The vegetarian alternative was sophisticated and a pleasure to eat. When one member of our party ordered it, the waiter asked whether the person was vegetarian, and then provided a vegetarian little appetizer in lieu of the evening's shellfish dish. The cheese plate is similarly outstanding. Great experience all around! This restaurant is expensive, which makes it fit only for special occasions or for very rich people, but the quality/price index is very high."

"Our food and wine deserved five stars but for the salad dressing, which was too bland. The entree that we both selected (sea bass Japanese recipe) was extraordinarily good.

The restaurant, like almost all, has canned music, which we would prefer not to endure. But it was not too loud, and other ambient noise was only moderate."

"The chef is inventive - the food is both delicious and cleverly displayed and created. My wonderful homemade ice cream was served in a bowl made of of ice...beautiful and it kept the ice cream cold. My husband's 3 flavors of creme brule were served in 3 eggshells in 3 egg cups.

"Move over John Besh; Scott Boswell is taking over! We love to try the innovative exciting restaurants. That means you often get great hits but sometimes get misses. Not at Stella! Everything was thoughtfully and successfully partnered. The tasting menu was exciting and unusual. The pairings of food and wine by John were perfect and thoughtful. (You don't have to have the wine, but it was great!) In addition to the fabulous food, the staff really makes your visit memorable! Jonathan was our waiter (twice) and couldn't have been better. John is the perfect guide through the wine list and is charming to boot! Louis oversees all (along with a young lady) making sure things are running smoothly. We couldn't have had a better experience!"

"Our dining experience was outstanding. The service was fantastic, with no request going unanswered. The food was superb and very inventive without being ridiculous, as some restaurants are wont to be.
We would happily return again for the chef's tasting of 7-courses with marvelously paired wines. Our only, minor complaint: too many truffle courses (3). With truffle being such a dominate flavor, it lingered too long on the palate to have some many courses including such an ingredient. Not to say that those courses with the truffles were not superb. It was just too much of a good thing."

"My best dining experience since going to Alice Water’s Chez Panisse in the early 90’s. The food was a wonderful combination of flavors, textures, and visuals. And the service was perfect. Hats off to Scott Boswell and his entire team.

We were served an amazing amuse-bouche of shrimp, kimchee, and mango sauch (who would have thought kimchee). Next was creamy risotto with shaved white truffles, and a foie gras crafted like a small sandwich. Delicious. For entrees, we had scallops and shrimp accompanied by perfectly roasted vegetables and sea bass in a wonderful sake and miso broth. For desert, we shared the cleverest combination of Delice de Bourgogne cheese and dark chocolate genache. No disappointments at all."

"Amazing presentation and service. The food was fantastic and very unique. Not too many Asian fusion restaurants in New Orleans. Oyster appetizer came out on dry ice and tasted amazing. "Wonderful experience. We had the gnocchi, risotto, and crab/citrus salad to start, all of which were excellent—the salad in particular was memorable. Entrees were sea bass with crab and lobster broth; fish and chips; tandoori salmon; and spicy prawns. All were good, though the salmon and sea bass were particularly excellent. Desserts were the chocolate cake with hot buttered lemonade; ice cream; and bananas foster french toast. The chocolate cake was dark and too rich for me, though I traded for the french toast. Service was very attentive, on the border of too attentive: several people paying attention to us, even without ordering wine, and never leaving us alone for too long. Overall, the best meal of the weekend; far better than August."

"Wow! What a WONDERFUL meal! It was our 2nd night in New Orleans. The first night we ate at Nola and were quite disappointed. Stella however was AMAZING and everything fine dining should be! Every bite was like a party in your mouth! I found myself eating more slowly than normal so I could make the experience last as long as possible. Excellent service and super friendly staff! FABULOUS! Can't recommend this restaurant highly enough!"

"The reviews were encouraging, but when my husband and I were seated and looked at the next table and realized we were sitting next to Chef John Folse,his wife and Rick Tromonto, owner/chef of TRU (Chicago),I KNEW it was going to be a memorable dining experience!The unique menu was, to say the least, interesting and delicious. We really enjoyed the citrus and crabmeat salad with the side of creme soda...(try it!...it's wonderful!) The grilled cheese with chocolate ganache, interesting!We had heard that possibly the atmosphere was a bit pretentious or stuffy...NOT SO. Our wait staff were knowledgable and approachable...even candid. The amuse bouche were delightful and the after dinner treats from Chef Scott Boswell...perfecto! We'll be back!"
