The Blue Point, established in 1987, is an upscale fresh seafood restaurant located in quaint and beautiful Wayzata across the street from Lake Minnetonka, the metro area's largest lake. We are dedicated to providing the freshest seafood brought in daily from the coasts, it is creatively prepared and coupled with friendly, knowledgeable service and a colorful extensive selection of fine wines. We have had a Wine Spectator award-winning wine list for the past ten years and continue to be committed to upholding this caliber of selection as well as our culinary excellence. We offer a range of comfortable dining atmospheres, ranging from the white table-clothed Wine Room, Key West and Main dining rooms, to the more casual Oyster Bar with tables draped in green-checkered cloths. Our menu offers a variety of unique, delectable entrees and side dishes, featuring an array of seafood, salads, homemade soups and non-seafood options, as well as our famous Key Lime Pie.
"I had pistachio crusted halibut over yam puree and it was divine! Another in our party had salmon and it was rare in the middle so had to be sent back but was very good once it was cooked through. Another had shrimp and they loved it. Service was very good."

"I want to like Blue Point; we have tried our best, Unfortunately, their food has never been up to par with a good seafood restaurant, let alone an exceptional one. Halibut was dry and not very tasty. And Halibut is my favorite fish. My wife's shrimp was good, but risotto was dry and fried to a crisp - not traditional risotto and no mention of the "fried" preparation on the menu. And the hash browns are just fried chunks of potato - not hash-browns at all in the traditional Midwest variety. Have tried this restaurant many times and always seem to leave disappointed in the food. Service, ambiance, bar are all very good."

"We have been to Blue Point several times and have had many wonderful meals. On this occasion however, although the food was good our server was not. This was an instance where one realizes the important role a server plays in the whole dining experience. She unfortunately did not voluntarily tell us about any specials or make recommendations. I felt the whole evening. she was trying. torush us through and wanted to turn over our table quickly. We ordered appetizers through dessert and a bottle of wine. We will go back because. the seafood is fresh and delicious. Just a shame our server hurried us through a gourmet expensive meal."

"We hadn't even considered going to this place, but had a gift card and were pleasantly surprised by everything. The food was great--plenty of fish and shellfish selections with great side dish pairings. I thought the restaurant had a comfortable up-to-date supper club feel to it. We'll definitely be going back."

"Blue Point is our 'destination restaurant' for fine sea food dining. Has been for years. It never disappoints! The original menu presentation of selecting one's fish of choice and the preparation has been modified to include vegetables, sauces, etc., in the dish. All is no longer a la carte. Very nice!"

"After dining at Blue Point with a VP and 5 Director Level Execs - I've got to say - FANTASTIC! The restaurant was able to fill my request for a private/quieter space and although we were directly across from the busy bar, the noise level was enthusiastic, not over powering! The service from our waiter was superb and the food was outstanding! This made quite an impression on my executive team and I am certain, as the departmental administrator, I will be recommending Blue Point over and over again! Excellent!"

"Booked a spot on Open Table for a same day meal. Sent a note that we were celebrating a birthday and staff was aware and ready for that event. Food was great. Descriptions of dishes matched how they were presented and tasted. Our favorite spot in wayzata, MN for a number of years!"

"The crab cakes were tasty, but our entrees were definitely underwhelming. My husband had the duck & scallops. The duck was not great, but the scallops were ok, if a bit gritty.
I had the red snapper. Everything on my plate was severely overcooked & withered. I couldn't even cut my fish with my fork. Yikes. The buttery sauce on the plate was the only thing that saved my meal, but I wouldn't eat there again."

"We had the clam chowder and an order of mussels for appetizers. Chowder was a delightful creamy dish and there were enough mussels for four people. The duck and scallops entre was a fantastic blend of flavors. Both were tender and the scallops were very sweet. Blackened swordfish was recommended and after a few bites it was clear why it was one of our servers favorite dishes. We were early with a 6:30pm reservation on Saturday. Very quiet and only a few occupied tables, but by the time we left all the tables were filled yet the noise level was acceptable. Nice neighborhood bar which is too small for the restaurant and gets very crowded, but one of the best martinis in the TC. Good selection on the wine list, too."

"Even though we go to Wayzata frequently, we've never eaten at Blue Point. We finally did and we're just sorry we didn't try it sooner! The meal was excellent and so was the service. My husband had mussels, and then the scallops and duck breast entree, which was delicious. I had Maryland crab cakes & swordfish, both of which were excellent. The restaurant was packed on a Friday night but our reservation was honored immediately. We had a small table, kind of crowded into the wall, but the restaurant was so busy, there wasn't much else they could do.
Blue Point is not the kind of restaurant you'd go to for peace and quiet but if you want excellent food, delicious deserts and fair wine prices, we would highly recommend. We will be back!"

"As usual Blue Point was very good. Fish was very fresh and presented very well. Salads were very good, the pear apple salad is awesome. Our party ordered the grouper, salmon, and ahi tuna. "I have dined at the Blue Point for years, but my recent experience somewhat peeved me. My on-line reservation was convenient and asked for any additional notes. I stated that we had dined at Blue Point before, and that this was our 25th wedding anniversary. Perhaps I was unduly expecting something special as far as treatment. We did not receive it. We were seated at the auxiliary dining room, by the back door. We had good service & good food, but somehow it lacked the usual pinache."

"Like being transported to a New England seafood restaurant. Ambience is wonderful, classy. Energetic from a noise stand point. However, there is no piped in music in the dining rooms so, even when it's full, you can talk and hear each other easily without yelling. Classy surroundings. Excellent food to match. Steamed mussels as an appetizer could have been an entire meal...and tasty. Grilled Salmon was fantastic as were the Scallops. Service is attentive. Ask for a table in the main dining room. My only small complaint was the $18 charge for a Tallisker Scotch...although it was an extremely generous pour."

"I asked for something prepared different from what was on the menu. It wasn't prepared to my liking. Consider that my fault, however, the waitress also should have asked how I liked it done...she didn't. Overall, the waitress was only so-so and less than normal at Blue Point. Don't know if she was new or maybe stretched with to many tables.
This experience does nothing to change my opinion that Blue Point is one of my favorite places for cocktails/happy hour in the lounge or dinner."

"It's a nice restaurant where you can get a good meal. I would like to see more variety on the menu with more lobster, shrimp and scallop dishes as most of the items are fish. Our waitress wasn't warm, engaging or personable, I felt like we were just another table to wait on. It's just "good", but for the cost of a meal and the location, it could and should be better."

"Dinner with friends. The food selection and quality at Bluepoint is always great. The service was courteous but abnormally slow. It was Saturday evening and the large dining room was full, but the number of servers seemed to be a bit inadequate. She was busy and we waited a long time for our drinks, refills appetizers and meals. Otherwise, the experience was very good."

"Just ok. Its more like a 2.5. Place needs a remodel. Food is ok but very pricey. Molten chocolate cake that "takes twenty minutes to prepare" was cold in spots..ice cold. Ten guesses where it came from? Wine list had a lot of my favorites but the server pours white wine like its red. So just sorta ok overall but at least you can have a nice quiet dinner to talk with your spouse. Bar scene looked way more fun."

"It was the first time my husband and I ate at the Blue Point in Wayzata, MN, although we've wanted to go there for a long time. The seafood was excellent; very fresh. The Maryland Lump Crab Cakes reminded me of the ones I've had in Baltimore, MD. I can honestly say I've never had anything like the Baltimore crab cakes anywhere else here in Minnesota so that was a real treat. I also ordered the scallops and there were undoubtedly the best scallops I've ever had and I've had scallops many, many times at other restaurants. The restaurant is very quiet which my husband and I really like as he has some hearing loss and can't always hear people talk in restaurants. I would recommend this restaurant again!"

"Been going to Wayzata Blue Point since 1993. Still a great seafood spot with impeccable service. I have seen the food grow a bit more pedestrian since they opened the Bloomington location, but its still very fresh, nicely prepared seafood. BP Wayzata reamins one of my go-to stand-bys in the Twin Cities."

"We sat at a table next to a window that had a very cold breeze coming through the wall (and it was only about 5 degrees outside that evening). I wore my coat over my legs all through dinner. Also, there was a another window behind us which had a door on the other side of it, that kept slamming very loudly every 2-3 minutes. It took 15 minutes to get a glass of wine, and the waitress seemed kind of clueless. The food was mediocre for the price. We had also reserved our table ahead of time because this was an anniversary dinner and had requested the "most romantic table in the house". We were stuck in a back room with very little atmosphere at all. That combined with the other problems, I would not classify it as a very romantic evening."

I had a half-dozen blue points as an appetizer. Not off-tasting, but rather "dry", as though all the liquor had been lost in shucking or they had been prevously shucked and sat open in a dry cooler.
My wife had the grilled Pacific shrimp and risotto cake. The shrimp were overcooked and the risotto "cake" was in fact a fried lump of risotto.
My grilled tuna entree and her apple/pear/endive salad were fresh and flavorful.
The service was good, in that it met my minimum expectations for restaurant in this price range. It certainly did not exceed them, however. The ambiance was very good.
Bottom Line: The Blue Point did not meet the value/price threshold at $150 for dinner for two."

"We arrived on time for our reservation and still had to wait. We sat in the bar room dining area. Although our food was good, they must have been short staffed. Our server finally greeted us and took our drink order after about 15 min. After, it took her 40-minutes to stop back for our food order. We ended up being late for our after dinner plans, because from the minute we sat down, it took 2 hours for two of us to get an appetizer and eat our dinner.
On a plus, the crab cakes were delicious."
