Up the stairs and into a "magical" room.....is the route to "decadence defined" at the Midtown New American dispensing "excellent" caviar and sushi.....Zagat 2010
"Perhaps the best hidden gem in New York! Chef Chris Agnew is a very talented professional who used to work at Alain Ducasse and Adour as a sous-chef. I particularly admire his talent to come up with fantastic new dishes whenever I visit them so that I don't have to get the same dishes twice, which is not the kind of service I find even at Michelin three starred restaurants. Two thumbs up!"

"A hidden gem. Comparable to the finest restaurants in New York. The dishes are expertly prepared, imaginative, and delicious. The overall experience is well worth the premium menu prices."

"I've eaten here before but just wanted to enjoy the caviar service with a friend and oh did we ever! We did a sampling and it was divine decadence as Sally Bowles might call it... delicious and full of wonderful accompaniments that I barely touched as I prefer it with just toast points... or nothing at all. The service was impeccable as always and we finished the meal with the best coffee I have ever had. Delightful through and through!"

"I made the reservation for February 15th. When we arrived there was a chef's tasting menu for Valentine's Day that was not mentioned on OpenTable. It was the only option at $295 per person. We were with another couple and after having one moderate bottle of wine and paying the gratuity, each couple ended up paying over $800. The food was good but not THAT good and the environment was a bit haughty. I loved the chandeliers though. Anyone who goes on a holiday weekend should check first. I thought it was way too pricey."

"We were thrilled with our meal and our experience at Caviar Russe. The only thing I would change is that the caviar spoon is too small for the amount they charge for a spoon of caviar."

"I've had their dinner which inspired me to try their brunch this time. I started out with some caviar which was just superb, as always. The staff is most attentive, also as always, and made a wonderful champagne recommendation -- not my favorite thing but their selection elevated my opinion of it. I loved the soft scrambled egg first course and the earthy wagyu beef cheeks second course was full of delightful complementary flavors."

"We arrived to find that, with no prior notice, all that was available that evening (2 days after Valentine's Day) was a $250 per person tasting menu (not including wine). No other choice. Meanwhile, the tasting menu on the website was only $150. The head waiter then pressured us to have caviar and we tried to stay with the least expensive option. This was over and above the tasting menu. Given the ultimate cost (four figures for just two of us including 3 glasses of wine each, by the glass) I would have expected much more exquisite food. There are lots and lots of wait people - too many we thought - and very little personality. Visitors to NYC would do better to avoid this place entirely. It is a place for pretension and business."

"I have eaten in some of the greatest restaurants in the world and Caviar Russe is absolutely incomparable. It is very expensive - but worth every dollar! I cannot imagine a more elegant place to dine or finer cuisine..."

"The entire experience was FANTASTIC! The service was great. The host, Armando, is brilliant and his entire team are very attentive to each and every detail. The food was excellent and being a vegetarian, they made a special three course dinner for me that was extremely tasty. Definitely will go back and highly recommend anyone that wants to have a special/romantic dinner, this is a place to go!"
