"La Cote D'Or is a fine little French bistro with very good food and an efficient wait staff. Prices are a bit high, but not bad considering the quality of the food and the preparation, and in line with other French restaurants. Conversation is easy. Ask to be seated in the main dining room versus the room added on to the side of the building-- although it is still nice, and perhaps a bit more intimate.
We had a delicious, enjoyable meal and I would recommend La Cote D'Or to family and friends."

"Went for brunch on mother's day & everything was very nice. The shrimp cocktail with remoulade was simple & delicious. Salad benjamin was fresh & always a good selection. The quiches (crab & spinach) were perfectly baked & a good portion. Get the Malbec wine...always Great! Wish I could have gotten a rose for my mom....all others received one."

"With a 2:30pm reservation, well past the rush, our mediocre overcooked and ascetically unappealing chow was slop’d up plenty slow by an inattentive and indifferent staff. Taken together with a high altitude bill and gritty (bad part of) Brooklyn demeanor of the hostess (co-owner), Côte-d'Or is a must pass."

"I think we've gushed before about how wonderful and reliable this restaurant is. Never had a bad meal and the wine is always perfectly chosen for our palate. There is no children's menu, which is actually nice because our kids have tried (and discovered they really liked!) escargot, calamari, mussels, and other things they wouldn't normally order. Service is outstanding. Porch is great in the warmer weather."

"After several years absence, we returned to an old favorite for a Sunday Brunch. Food was excellent, prices fair (except for grossly over-priced wine), service attentive without being intrusive, ambiance charming and pleasant. Our experience was good enough that we will resume patronizing La Cote D'Or, especially for lunch. (We had a bad experience several years ago which prompted us to strike it off our list after years of being regular customers.)"

"When we are in that part of Virginia, we always make an effort to dine at La Cote D'Or. The food and service are outstanding. I had the Veal Chop. It was extremely tender served with an outstanding sauce. My wife had the Prix Fix meal steak. I tried a piece, and it was a outstanding and tender as the veal."

"My husband and I went here for our anniversary. Since we're both taking French lessons right now, we figured a French restaurant was a good idea. I've walked by this place several times but hadn't gone in before tonight, and i'm very glad I did.
The food, the ambiance, the service...everything was impecable. The Wednesday night dinner special was fantastic: 1/2 price bottles of wine and buy one Entree and get the second for free when ordering two courses! Just because it was a special occasion doesn't mean we can't save some dough.
Final thoughts: order the artichoke."

"We went two different times for the dinner special. The choices were excellent the first time (mushroom soup/lamb stew or a white fish/chocolate bread pudding) but not as good the second time. "Went on a Wednesday and they have buy one, get one on entrees, as well has half priced bottles of wine. My dad and I split an excellent bottle of bourdeaux for $24 (normally $48) and BOGO filets with a mushroom sauce for $33. Excellent, cooked perfectly, amazing deal.
Escargot is some of the best I've had, and the french onion soup is top notch too. I know from other visits that they do a great brunch menu as well. Worth the trek from DC to go to dinner here. They have a cafe in the adjacent building, that does an inexpensive lunch if you work in the area. Neighborhood institution."

"Although the restaurant was struggling with a crowded Easter brunch, our party of six enjoyed very good French food and good service. The room where we ate had tables only for six or eight; the party next to us was so raucous, it almost spoiled our meal. We enjoyed our dessert after they left!
The pastry chef has too heavy a hand (the Napoleon and profiteroles were far from light and flakey), but the shad roe and frogs legs entrees were very nicely prepared."

"We really enjoyed our brunch. We had the escargot, seafood crepe, eggs benedict, and chicken cordon bleu, drinks, coffee, and dessert. The food was absolutely perfect, and the pace of the meal was relaxing. The table was set very nicely, and the service was flawless. The waitstaff's timing was perfect, they were polite, they had spotless white shirts and used formal address. Our only complaints are that we were seated on something of an enclosed patio area and Mom was cold. The main dining area that you walk through is prettier and more comfortable. I would have requested to eat there as it looked much nicer. The mimosas cost more than I expected, especially since they were mostly OJ. Overall, we will definitely be back, but sit elsewhere"

"Code d'Or is my favorite restaurant in Northern Virginia. It offers the charming ambiance of a French bistro, and the food is invariably good. It is small (seats perhaps 40-45 people), and is refreshingly quiet in an era where a "dining room din" seems to be the preferred attraction. The wait-staff is friendly, but not offensively so, and the kitchen is invariably efficient. I've eaten there perhaps 20 times, and have never had a bad experience."

"Old fashioned (read "classic") French bistro menu done right. No "fusion" froufrou; simply good ingredients prepared as your mother would prepare them--if she were a classically trained French chef. A consistently pleasant experience made so by knowledgeable owners unobtrusively transmitting their standards of hospitality to the entire staff. A true gem in a surprise location. I hesitate to praise it too highly as I'd rather keep it as my own surprise to spring on unsuspecting friends!"

"This was my first visit to La Cote D'Or. We had a few mis-steps: the busboy knocked over the flowers on our table which made a mess. The hostess, who was located in another room, wasnt notified to put us at a different table. It wasn't a big deal - table was cleaned pronto (w/new linens)but I had to stand in the aisle while he did so. And, the table the hostess gave us which seemed to be a good table, turned out to be awful.It was right next to the 2-way door that the servers use to access the kitchen & dining room.Considering there was only one other couple in the restaurant at the time (noon on Sunday) I think a better table was not a problem,especially in light of what happened with the flowers.I will come back but know where not to sit"

"In retrospect we should have ordered from the "dinner specials" menu. I had liver and onions and my husband the lamb steak? Our meals consisted of a very thin slice, and fatty. Mine came with a boiled potato wedge and undercooked green beans. My husbands "steak" came with french fries. We had 3 glasses of wine. Our check with a $14 tip came to $125. We hated our meals but our server was great. Needless to say, we won't be dining there again, ever.. I don't understand how this restaurant got such good reviews. Thanks for the opportunity to vent my displeasure. Forgot to mention we had the calamari which tasted very much like onion rings. I think they were deep fried in the same batter they use for their frittes."

"We've lived in Falls Church for 5 years and finally made a point of trying La Cote D'Or to celebrate my wifes birthday. We shouldn't have waited so long as we had a great dining experience. Ambience is great, light french country bistro environment, quiet enough for easy conversation. For dinner we chose the duck breast with raspberry sauce, chicken cordon bleu and seafood crepes. The duck and chicken were both excellent and while the seafood crepes were very good, the fish used was a bit strong. Deserts included raspberries in caramel and creme brulee, both were wonderful. Service was attentive without being intrusive. We'll be back and recommend highly to others."

"This place has fantastic classical French food and and ambiance that has an old world feel to it.
If you're looking for fusion, this isn't the place for it, but if you want a great meal in the classical Michelin style this is one of the best places in the DMV."

"Traditional French food. While the restaurant cannot compete with the fancier restaurants of DC, La Cote D'Or is about the best food available in Falls Church. As an added benefit, the prices are not comparable to the fancier restaurants in DC. In summary, La Cote D'Or is very good French food at a reasonable price."

"We had dinner here on Valentine's day. They did not have their regular menu, only a special Valentine's menu and it had no vegetarian options on it. This was very disappointing as we usually went to Morton's for this holiday but had chosen La Cote D'Or because I was no longer eating meat and there were options for me there. I asked what my options were and a confused looking server said "vegetable plate." I was brought a plate of limp vegetables, one step above the frozen mixed veggies one gets in the frozen section at the store. Disappointing."

"We have enjoyed La Côte d'Or over the years. It is consistently good, an occasionally has a Wow factor for a special dish. This visit was certainly good, the artichoke, swordfish and chocolate mousse were all very good. The rasberries au caramel is a house specialty and it did not disappoint. The food prices are a bit higher than in years past and one should not expect an overly generous portion. That said, the food is served perfectly hot, the staff is attentive and the experience is very rewarding."

"We enjoyed a most pleasant evening at La Cote D'Or, with minimal exceptions. Neither my wife nor I could ever get warm during the meal, in spite of the fact that our table was next to the kitchen. I'm a large person, and La Cote D'Or's chairs were simply too small for me.
The food and service were beyond reproach. Should you have the opportunity, please try the Lyonnaise Salad, as it was truly delicious. My wife loves liver and onions and truly enjoyed La Cote D'Or's version of the dish. Should the restaurant be offering specials, consider them strongly. I tried their dessert special the evening we dined, the green apple sorbet, and was most impressed. The valu for the money spent at La Cote D'Or is exceptional."
