For 3 years in a row Lonesome Dove has had the highest food rating by ZAGAT in Dallas and Fort Worth. Chef Tim Love is also the first Fort Worth chef to be nominated for a James Beard Award. Lonesome Dove is a must if you are in the area.
Open in 2000, The Lonesome Dove Western Bistro located in Fort Worth's Historic Stockyard District has quickly become the city's premiere dining establishment. Chef Tim Love designs a menu daily influenced by all of the ingredients and cultures that has been a part of the West since the first adventure began on the Goodnight-Loving and Chisholm Trails - with an added level of modern sophistication. Items on Lonesome Dove's menu range from an inventive selection of steaks, seafood, and wild game to dishes such as pinon and chile caribe crusted dayboat scallops, Kangaroo Carpaccio nachos, and Seared Red Deer Bone-in Ribeye.

"What can I say? I am very critical of restaurants as I love both to cook and eat out. Lonesome Dove hits perfectly on all fronts: interesting menu (rattlesnake/rabbit sausage & seared ostrich nachos as an appetizer), great service, comfortable atmosphere and fantastic food prep/presentation.

5 stars and would really give it a 6 as it was the most enjoyable meal I have had in a long while."

"This is one of our preferred restaurants and we were not disappointed with this visit. Only one thing: whoever set table, forgot one bread plate and waiter never noticed. We continue to recommend LD as one of the best in the area. Great innovative food-especially appetizers."

"I really enjoyed this place. I do think it's pricey for the portions they serve you. I went with my wife on 2-26-09. We both immensely enjoyed the Jalapeno Margaritas. The Elk Sliders were amazing. It's just funny that you pay $14 for 2 little sliders when you get 2 of those for about $1.50 at fast food. Not that this is fast food....but I wonder if using elk is worth the difference in cost because it didn't distinctly taste much different than ground beef to me.

The seared Ostrich Nacho's though are a joke. 3 chips...average guacamole they call Avocado Salsa and the portion of ostrich is so small ,you can't even taste it.

Diver scallops need work. My wife would of tossed them if she wasn't paying $28 for them. Undercooked."

"As always, Tim makes the best meals in town, service and taste are out of this world. A little on the pricey side, 3 people was $205 with a 20% tip, and no alcohol. Our meal consisted of just 2 shared appetizers, a salad split into 3rd's, and 3 main courses. The appetizers where $12-$15 each, 1 consisted of 3 hushpuppies ($5 each, with a minute amount of lobster, but still not worth $15) the other was the rattlesnake-rabbit sausage, which consisted of one bite of sausage ($12 for 3, or $4 each bite) the $35 garlic stuffed tenderloin with a Syrah demi-glaze was amazing! The food is out of this world, your mouth is bursting with flavor, the place was packed to the hilt on a Wednesday night with no particular special events going on."

"The food was great for those with an adventurous palate. I brought my 2 sons (ages 10 & 8). They were excited about trying the items on the menu. We had the rattlesnake rabbit sausage, elk sliders, New Zealand red deer & the diver scallops. Unfortunately, the taste was too different for them but they're anxious to tell their friends about their dinning experience. With that in mind, this may not be the ideal restaurant for children. On the other hand, I do suggest this for us adults as I will be back to try the ostrich nachos & wild boar ribs."

"The Valentines day menu was a huge dissappointment, it was overpriced and very mediocre. Although the Bib salad was good, the Brussel sprout salad was nothing more than chewing on a hunk of parmesian cheese with nothing to compliment or enhance the flavor. The Steak was tender, but nothing you couldn't get elsewhere for 1/2 the price. The Flourless choclate cake was also lacking in flavor and texture and was more like something you could get at any chain restaurant. If the waiter would have smiled, I think it would have caused his face to crack, although efficient there was not feel of friendliness, and it was not very timely. I doubt we'll go back, this should have been a special occasion, we were really looking forward to it"

"First of all, the service was outstanding. We really appreciated the waiter letting us know that we could do a "sampler" of h'ors d'oeurvres with one of each of the offerings we were considering per person in our party. The food was very good, but not as spectacular as our expectations from reading about it.
First course: We had the elk sliders; rabbit & rattlesnake sausage; and ostrich tostada. The description of the elk sliders included foie gras and blueberry jame, neither was detected in or on the somewhat dry minipatty of elk. The ostrich tostada was overwhelmed by the guacomole (altho the guac was really good!) - the best of the three was the sausage, which was juicy and delightfully flavorful.
No room for the rest alas..."

"Wow! What a great evening. We went for an early Valentine dinner on the 13th and it couldn't have been better. The food was the best I've had. Yet, the atmosphere was very casual and relaxing.

We arrived early and started with a few drinks at the bar while we waited. The bar prices were very reasonable. Once seated, I was amazed at the wine list. it was almost overwhelming and there was something for everyone.

They served a 5 course meal that just got better with each course. I chose the garlic stuffed tenderloin as an entree and savored every bite. It was easily the best beef dish I've ever had.

I can't say enough about this place. It's a real treat!"

"Food and ambience was wonderful. Had 5:30 reser - arrived at 5:25 and were told we could not be seated until rest of party arrived - with only ONE TABLE occupied in entire restaurant. We pressed but no backing down. when we left, still only 2 tables occupied, may stay that way with poor judgment with the hostess. This was not 8PM and people lined up for tables. That alone could keep me from trying again or recommending."

"Our waiter who took our drink order and with it being our first time, took the liberty to explain some favorites from the menu and how the courses worked. We split a first course of Kangaroo Nachos and Lobster Hushpuppies. The guacamole with the nachos was fantastic. We then each had a soup, Cauliflower and Pork/Hatch Chile. Both my wife and I agreed that each soup may very well have been the best part of a wonderful meal. My wife ordered the lamb and I ordered the Red Deer. The lamb was a different cut than my wife was used to but she thought it was very good nonetheless. She really enjoyed the brussel sprouts on the side. My red deer was tender and juicy. Overall the dinner was superb and we would love to go again."

"This is one of our favorite dining spots. My girlfriends and I always treat ourselves to a special meal a few times a year and we have dined here on 3 separate occasions. The food is always good to great! We love the Mac & Cheese here don't miss it! On this visit, the Green Chili was quite good. My pork chop was a bit bland though. Our favorite dessert is the Warm Chocolate Cake with a kick! The wine list had some nice wines on it at less then 3x's the markup. The service was outstanding. The air was a bit drafty so we all had to keep our coats handy for a few bursts of cold air! Overall we will all go back in a heartbeat!"

"It was a great dining experience. We live in the Beaumont area and don't have any notable restaurants to patronize and decided since we would be in the DFW area we would visit Lonesome Dove (my wife had heard of it through the Food Network.) The evening will always be among my fondest food memories. We had a very personable waiter who gladly guided us through the menu from a to z. he made excellent reccomendations for all courses. We also were impressed with the wine list and selected a Chateau Mont Elena chardonnay which was great. Having seen "Bottle Shock" have been on the lookout for any Chateau Mont Elena wines. We plan to repeat our visit in the not too far future with some friends who are currently envious of our LD meal."

"We traveled from Houston TX for dinner at the Lonesome Dove. A few nuts and bolts need to be tightened - so to speak. Dining at Marks Houston and Gordon Ramsay's at the London in NYC leaves this restaurant lagging behind. A few simple requests. Our waiter was inexperienced and unsure about many products. The food was very good quality. We were impressed with the style of cooking."

"We thought the food was good but appetizers size was very small for the price, the meat my husband ordered was extremely fatty and the sides were nothing to write home about.....my dinner was very good and cooked well. "the food was great and service very good. my only complaints are that I made special notes in my reservation about celebrating my wife's birthday and anniversary and they were not mentioned or acknowledged at all. also, I bought a coffee mug at the end of the meal and instead of giving me a new one, when I got home to Dallas I found they had given me a used, stained, chipped, and scratched mug."

"We were EXTREMELY disappointed at the poor bar service. We arrived earlier than our reservation and thought we would sit at the bar for a few drinks. The bartender was very unfriendly. We tried to engage him in conversation, but he had nothing to say. We asked him about the Savvy Vodka that was in one of the specialty drinks, he told us it was made in Austin and was horrible~end of conversation. I give him 2 stars for service. Donovan, our server, was 5 stars!!! He did an awesome job and was very informative. We had the lobster hushpuppies, Spanish chorizo & quail egg, lamb belly BLT, rabbit/rattlesnake sausage, pork chili, veal, duck, macaroni/cheese. Everything was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! We can't wait to go back."

"My boyfriend and I went for his Christmas present to Lonesome Dove after we had seen Tim Love win on Iron Chef. We had a great waiter that pointed us in the right direction for everything we wanted to try as far as the first and second courses went. We tried four different appetizers between the first two courses and had a blast trying out different things. The main course was exquisite as well. My personal favorite part of the entire meal though was the dessert, Ancho Chile Chocolate Cake--AMAZING. Try to beat that again Morimoto. I have already been suggesting it to friends and colleagues at work as a nice restaurant to try out. GREAT Christmas present for my boyfriend and I who love food and cooking!"

"The service and food was great but the night was not started off well when I called to confirm our reservations on the way to the restaurant and the hostess told me that "well ok but we need your table at 7." Our reservation was at 5:30 and we were not even late. I am a teacher and I cannot check my messages throught the day. I thought this comment was very rude and uncalled for."

"Our dinner at the Lonsome Dove was absolutely wonderful. Meagan the Hostess was charming and our waiter Ryan was extremely helpful with the menu. We have eaten in premiere restaurants all over the USA and Europe and the Lonesome Dove rates up there with the best. The steak was possibly the best I have ever had and my husband enjoyed the elk sausage and the red deer chop. Be sure to have the mac and cheese as a side dish!

"The food was wonderful! We enjoyed the variety and uniqueness of the cuisine. We were celebrating a special occasion with 8 people. Making the reservation was very easy and the people on the phone were always friendly. They gave us a nice big round table in a special spot in the restaurant which we appreciated. The service during the dinner could have been better but overall a great evening."

"Front end of the house unimpressive: greetings, seating arrangements, etc.

Waiter was adequate, but hustled us for wine selections: (it's poor form to recommend over $100 per bottle without giving the customer some less expensive options -I had to ask, which is embarassing when you're entertaining clients).

Apetizer sampler idea was very good.

Main courses: excellent quality ingredients, good presentation and preparation.

Two large private parties the night we were there. I felt our party of 6 was not a priority. Suggest they consider closing the restaurant next time they book in large groups.

I regretted leaving a 20% gratuity."
