Bombay Talkie, Chelsea's ultra hip take on Indian "street food", continues to wow diners and critics. Created and owned by Sunitha Ramaiah, the bistro melds the two worlds dearest to her: Her childhood in Southern India and her adult life in Manhattan. Bombay Talkie contemporizes the regional cuisines of the tiny road side cafes (or Tea Houses) that dot the Indian sub continent.
"The lamb chops were amazing! Portion sizes are individual, so not the best for family style ordering but food was delicious and we were not rushed as we lingered on a Saturday night. Overall a great choice."

"the food is excellent, the service is not. we had to ask for many things ( forks, plates, if we might order dessert...). our waiter was unsure of several items on the menu, returned to us to inform us what we had ordered was unavailable and generally had to be flagged down if we needed anything ( see above). the food: terrific."

"This is one of the few good Indian restaurants downtown. I used to live in the neighborhood and came here regularly. I finally returned to Bombay Talkie and the food was as I remember - very tasty and not greasy at all! Also, the ambiance is hip, which is unusual for an Indian restaurant in NYC."

"I was excited by the concept of Bombay street food as a Bombayite myself. But the things we ordered were quite disappointing. The bhel was soggy, too sour (excess of green mango or tamarind) without the complementing sweet and hot flavors. And the secret of a good bhel is the right amount and combination of chutneys (green - mint/coriander and brown - date/tamarind). The papdi chat was also not the best. It was way too sweet. The pav bhaji - of the three things we ordered - was alright, although it could have been spicier rather than sweet."

"Food was delicious, space is small(ish) but nice, but they could do without the neon cocktail signs which cheapens the space and the incessant blender noise which ruins conversations."

"WORST service ever. I am not sure if they were short staffed or if they just don't know what good service is. Once we sat down, we waited about 15 min for them to bring us menus. Once we had menus, we ordered drinks- 2 glasses of wine and 2 beers. Not a complicated order. 20 min later we got our drinks. No one ever apologized or came to our table and explained why there were such delays in the service. Oh- and there is no hostess stand. So you walk in and have to find someone that works there to tell them you have a reservation. I am a big believer that if a place is short staffed or if something is delaying service, just have the server explain that to the guests- then it's no big deal. Communication is key!"
