Inspired by the food, wine, people, and beauty of Italy’s Piemonte region, Alba offers exquisite regional Italian cooking. Owners Rick and Susan Stein direct the service staff with a hospitality driven style of casual fine dining. The wine list offers a broad selection from Italy and California, with a strong emphasis on Piemonte and Tuscany. The dining room is warmly lit with antique European furniture and light fixtures. Excellent acoustics allow for easy and comfortable conversation. A spacious patio with fireplace and fountain is a delightful setting for outdoor dining during the warmer months. The adjacent garden provides herbs and vegetables throughout the growing season. The cozy bar features comfortable booths and a library of Italian food, wine, and travel books. A visit to Alba will provide you with many of the sensory pleasures of a trip to Italy.
"Have been to Boulder a lot over the years, since my daughter was at CU. So I've tried a lot of restaurants in Boulder and the last was the best. Alba was a real revelation. Being a bit of a food snob from San Francisco, Boulder was always ok, but never really a food town. Alba has changed my mind about that. The food at Alba would stand up just fine in SF. The pastas were authentic and very well prepared. Our boisterous, post-graduation party of six was treated very well and every dish looked amazing. Well done, Alba!"

"Our niece was in town and looking to have a great evening. We had not been to Alba before and the quality and service exceeded our expectations. Proportions were just right. A small yet high quality wine and drink list was a plus. I really appreciate the reasonable spacing of the tables. You did not feel jammed in and it really added to the ambience while keeping the noise lever reasonable. I highly recommend Alba - it would be great for a romantic evening."

"Alba is one of our favorite restaurants in Boulder. The food is always dependable and tasty. The wine list features a large number of good, yet reasonably-priced wines that pair up well with the food. The wait staff is excellent, friendly and attentive. We often take visitors here because, unlike many places in Boulder that are very noisy, Alba is quiet enough to carry on a conversation, and you never feel like they are trying to "flip" your table. It's a very relaxed, comfortable place to enjoy a good meal with friends, which we do often. We particularly like to go to Alba in warmer weather because of the patio dining, probably the best in Boulder. Also, happy hour here offers great small plates at reasonable prices."

"The food was excellent but the service was awful. I felt like our party of five was rushed through the meal. I wanted to enjoy a nice meal with my daughters and her college friends. The reviews said it was quiet and a good place for groups. Well, it was not quiet but not too noisy. As soon as we sat we were asked to drink order. Before the drinks came we were asked for our dinner order. I sent him away but within five minutes he was back. The restaurant was not crowded so there was no reason to rush us. We had our meals on the table within a twenty minutes of being seated and out in 45. Needless to say I was VERY DISAPPOINTED."

"We went during Denver Restaurant Week and had a very pleasant meal, so we didn't see the full menu but the selection that was provided was very good. My wife had Alaskan Salmon and she enjoyed it, but enjoyed the polenta and pear appetizer more. I had the margharita pizza appetizer - the thin crust was excellent and ingredients balanced - and the lamb shank w/polenta was very good. I intend to return in the near future."

"Not bad for a restaurant in a strip mall, nice quiet place to have a good meeting with customers. With all the options in Boulder this is a good one but not tops of my list"

"Alba is a very nice place for a quiet dinner. The polenta and pear for first course was amazing. The atmosphere is classy, but a trifle stiff. Our wine was great. We will try to get back there more often."

"Execellent food and atmosphere. Don't let its location in a strip mall deter you. Step inside and it's wonderful. Best dish of the night was a poached pear with gorgonzola and pine nut cream and a small polenta cake. Perfect bite to put a little of each on your fork. Also loved the mushroom trofie which was handmade, small rolled pasta with mushrooms. Didn't look like much when served to me, but the flavors were outstanding and very rich. My husband had the hangar steak with pesto, Tuscany potatoes and arugula with lemon juice. Very good, but his favorite of the night was a lightly breaded mix of calamari, snapper and shrimp with a light vinegar tartar. We will definitely return."

"We hadn't been to Alba for several years so we took advantage of restaurant week to return. The food was very good, we both had a warm pear and polenta 1st course and the boneless lambshank for the entree. For dessert I had the blood orange custard which I have to say tasted just like an orange dreamsicle so not my favorite part of the meal. We both had red wine flights suggested by the waiter which were very good. My only suggestion, not even a complaint about Alba is that they could probably do something with the dining room to make it a bit more cozy and romantic. Right now it is just one big space and you can pretty much touch elbows with the table next to you. Something to give you at least a little sense of privacy and intimacy"

"My wife and I went for Denver Restaurant Week and enjoyed it. The food was very good, excellent tomato soup, creamy polenta, properly cooked pasta and flavorful sauces. Solid desserts and a good Italian wine list as well. Overall, a very good restaurant."

"Denver Restaurant Week happily coincided with our wedding anniversary and so provided a great excuse to try somewhere new. We live in Estes Park and eat in Boulder only once or twice a month. We decided that Alba Ristorante would be worth a try and we were delighted with our experience. The fixed price three course dinner probably is an abbreviated menu, but offered an excellent variety of choices. The wine list is almost exclusively Italian and the Tuscan Le Pupille Morellino was an excellent accompaniment to the Mushroom Trofie (Handmade pasta twists with local organic mushrooms, shallot, thyme, pecorino Romano) I ordered. My wife was delighted with her Pan Roasted Canadian Salmon (Tomato, black olives, capers, garlic, pepperoncini, Ital"

"While the food was good, not outstanding but good. The service was terrible. You know things are not good when you wait 10 minutes for a glass of wine and you ask the server about it and his response is "I will bring it when the bartender puts it up.""

"Managed to pull a 7:45 rez on a Saturday night on 4 hours notice, which was either pure luck or a really bad sign. It took two or three minutes past the reservation time for the Maitre'd to seat us, which is fine, but for a Saturday night they had only 2-3 servers handling 15 or so tables, which means the service was poor. We had to wait about 15 minutes to place our order, and then didn't receive any further attention from our waiter until we received the check. Ambiance was basically the only thing that saved this place. Very nice, romantic ambiance. Plus, it's a pretty non-threatening, spacious environment so it's great for a date. Definitely worth a second chance, as I'm sure they are usually better than this."

"We recently visited Alba for Restaurant Week and had a wonderful experience. The restaurant has a wonderful ambience, romantic and slightly dim, they avoided packing too many people in so even with a full house it wasn't overwhelmingly noisy. Their wine list was relatively small but very thoughtful with many selections in the $30-$40 range. The pear and polenta appetizer really Is wonderful, try it! My entree of bolognese was amazingly flavorful, pasta al dente, just perfect. My bf enjoyed the steak entree and went nuts for the house made pesto it was served with. Desserts, as others have mentioned, were the weakest part of the meal but still very good, the sauces made them. We'll be back =)"

"We were there during Denver Restaurant Week, so possibly they were a bit busier than usual. Our waitress was friendly, but we lacked any extra touch - offers to get us more of this or that, etc. I might try it one more time during a time other than Restaurant Week."

"What a nice way to kick off Denver restaurant week, $52.80 for two 3 course meals. The food and service was excellent. We started with homemade rustic bread served with a dish of olive oil containing two scoops of feta cheese. My first course was a caesar salad that came with a real anchovy don't get that much these days. Debra had the frito misto shrimp, fish and calamari in a very light tempura batter, excellent. My main course was lamb shank served on a bed of polenta with a rich brown sauce. The meat had been pulled (or fallen) off the bone and the blend with the polenta instead of the customary mashed potatoes was great. Debra had the salmon, pan seared in a tomato saucewith enough chili in it to give it a kick. She never eats"

"It was the first time for every one of our party of four to eat at this restaurant. We all ordered different items from each course. The tastes were outstanding! We absoluely loved everything that was put on our table. I will definitely be recommending Alba to my friends. I can't wait to come back and enjoy the outdoor dining area when it's warm."

"Very nice waiter but a little overwhelmed with too many tables on Valentine's Day. Cocktails and bread took a long time to arrive, we were never offered a second cocktail or wine with dinner and entrees took forever. The food was good when it finally arrived. Owners / Management were not doing much to help, they walked around looking slightly clueless when they should have been observant and discreetly helping out. Good food but the service and slow kitchen really detracted from dinner on a special evening."

"Had a great dinner here the day before valentines--so not a lot of people in there. We had a great waiter and the food was good. Wine list is great if you like Italian wines. We had a bottle from the region that Alba is from that was very good. Prices are pretty expensive--dinner for 2 and a bottle of wine ran about $200 with tip."

"We have been to Alba three times and always enjoy it. The northern Italian food is very good and the service as well. The portions are not over-large, they are just right. Despite it being one large room, the noise levels are not a problem and it has a nice ambiance."

"If you're coming to Alba, then I hope you have a hankering for delicious wine, because this is their strong point. While the food was good, there are other places to find phenomenal Italian food in the Boulder vicinity that rivals (and even exceeds)the quality of food at Alba. This is not to say that it wasn't tasty, but it was nothing to call home about, especially for being so expensive.
That being said, the wines are to die for! If you need a place for an occasion that you want to revolve around the wine, then this is your spot! Delicious.
About the ambiance: my boyfriend and I came in for Valentine's Day, so when we were there it was packed and bustling. The decor is strange, but the energy is nice for a night out."

"We were looking for a spot on Valentine's Day--notorious for poor service....while ours was a little slow, considering that the restaurant became full soon after we were seated, we were very happy with the service....the location is convenient to Boulder night activities (concerts at CU), without the Pearl Street hassle.
We took another couple, and were actually able to anjoy our conversation---rare these days in noisy restaurants.
We also liked the bit of air between the tables....really a good place to go."

"Delicious and serene. This is one of the few remaining restaurants in Boulder where you can hold a conversation with a group of five or six people. The service is excellent and knows when to recede. All my guests were delighted with their meals. I look forward to trying one of the desserts on another visit."

"One of the hidden restaurant gems in Boulder. Avoid the fray of downtown Boulder, find easy and free parking, and be assured of an excellent dinner each time. The Italian wine list is like no other and the owners pride themselves on knowing about the various regions of Italy. The wait staff has also been well informed on food and wine. Alba has become our consistent go to restaurant, especially when we want to avoid the bustle and crowds of downtown Boulder. We have never been disappointed."

"We were a group of seven older women. I asked for a quiet table and we were accommodated perfectly. We made an early reservation so Alba's was not crowded. We were able to visit while we waited for two other members of the party. We were not rushed. We ordered half portions of the entrees and everyone raved about the food. The waiter was very patient and told us that the tip was already added on our individual bills."
