Cochon captures the true essence of Cajun and Southern cooking. Chefs Donald Link and Stephen Stryjewski bring their love for southern Louisiana foods to every plate at Cochon. Donald's experience cooking with his family at their homes in Crowley and Rayne allow guests to share in his passion for real country and home cooking. The food is focused and simple, featuring roasted meats with natural sauces, homemade sausages, and fresh local seafood. The menu compliments the rustic, yet contemporary setting of the dining room. The Bar at Cochon features signature cocktails as well as the classic libations of New Orleans. "A bottle of the ubiquitous red stuff is on the table, but don't reach for it. We had livers on toast with a jelly garnish, the roasted oysters, pork cheeks and the catfish in court bouillon. Everything popped with perfect flavor combos. This was our second lunch here. May have to try dinner on one of our trips."

"Overall the food is ok but disappointing for the price point. The rabbit and catfish dishes have sauces so overwhelming that you can barely tell what protein you are eating. The gumbo is very salty and the pork cheek terrine is very greasy. The mac and cheese was awesome."

"The lowly pig stars here. The food is delicious. Unless you're at the convention center it's a bit out of the way but definitely worth the trip. Try any dish with green tomatoes. Flavors and creativity star here. The craft cocktails are great."

"We were last at Cochon in 2009 and we loved it then. The food has gone downhill since. The fried livers with pepper jelly was okay--not enough liver flavor. The gumbo was too salty but had good depth of flavor. The catfish courtbouillon was just okay. It was a disappointment."

"We went on an extremely busy Friday for lunch and were thrilled with the food. It came quickly, correctly and was fantastic - absolutely delicious. The bar service was in stark contrast. It wasn't necessarily the bartenders' fault - they were painfully understaffed and frenzied. There should have been at least two people making drinks and a bar back on a day that crazy, but sadly there was not. One person was pouring while the other bused dishes and looked for glassware. We waited at least 10mins for every drink - even bottles of beer took longer to arrive than food items. It really detracted from what would have been a great lunch. I'd try it again when it's likely to be less busy, but never again during Fest - too frustrating."

"Quite different than our experiences there before. Pedestrian, little flavor, questionable execution. Baked oysters were fine, though pepper sauce tasted simply like bottled thrown on. Cucumbers over-vinegared; boudin balls over-breading and insufficient heat rendered bland; crawfish baked dish too dry. The grilled shrimp and fresh toppings were, however, perfect. Left us disappointed, perhaps just an off day for the kitchen."

"The much-reviewed Cochon was a good, but not outstanding, experience for us. The menu is interesting and varied casual meaty fare, offering such ingredients as rabbit and oysters. All food was tasty and arrived quickly and hot.
Maybe they take the team approach for service, but after our food arrived, the wait staff did not visit our table at all to offer drink refills or check how the food tasted. A restaurant of this caliber should check on diners after food is received. I realize I could have flagged-down someone, as there seemed to be many wait staff persons milling about, but I really should not have to need to do that.
All in all, we had a good eating experience despite the service flaws."

"I was looking forward to the duck and dumplings which was so salty that I could not eat them. When I brought it to the attention of the wateress she told me that they get many complaints about the food being overly salted! When I questioned why the chef didn't take care of the problem I was told that "he is a celebrity chef and is rarely here." My suggestion is to find out where the "celebrity chef" goes for dinner and go there."

"We just barely made our 9:30pm Wed res due to delayed flights but thank god we did!! As visitors to NOLA, my fiance (1st-timer) & I rushed from checking into our hotel to Cochon & had one of the best meals of our stay. It is a walk-able distance from the FQ, energetic & seems to have plenty of local support, & the service is top-notch & friendly! I do wish we'd made a different entree-selection- after several small plates, we thought sharing the rabbit & dumplings would do but it wasn't much to share & we kind of wished we'd tried some other things. Call it a lesson learned & all the more reason to find our way back. Also, the Swinekiller & Orange Whiskey cocktails are outstanding - they just might go down a little too easy!!"

"I was expecting something different (although with the name which translates "pig", I shouldn't have), based on the fact a recent listing of the top 100 restaurants in the US with French Laundry as number 1, had Cochon as number 10. It was definitely a downscale place, with good down home Cajun-style cooking. I do recommend it for very good Cajun food."

"Very sophisticated take on "country food". We started with fried shrimp heads with spicy dipping sauce and charcuterie plate. The charcuterie plate included rillette, house made bologna (not at all like store stuff), head cheese, and other house made meats. All were very flavorful. The highlight was probaby the young man who delivered the tray...he described each with such loving detail, you could see the pride in the preparation. Entrees were Lousiana Cochon (crispy pulled pork) served with yummy cabbage/turnip mixture and Rabbit with Dumplings, very homey but lacking a zip. Ambiance was okay...kind of clunky, rustic tables/chairs. Service was efficient but lacked any charm...bordering on abrupt."

"This is Susan Spicer's older restaurant. We are New York foodies. I am not a big meat eater so I had my doubts but they vanished at the door. The smells were amazing. First clue that we were home was that the fabric on the comfortable chairs matched chairs at home. I started with the best salad of our trip, roasted broccoli, green beans, fried onions, mustard greens, bbq pecans with poblano ranch dressing. Our waitress suggest a small side of mac and cheese and I was in adult heaven enjoying it after roast oysters and washing it all down with a lovely bottle of Schug Pinot Noir. Strawberry pocket pie with sour cream ice cream sent us over the edge. Perfect evening.Highly recommend. Oh yeah, my husband loved the pork."

"Lunch was excellent. Shared apps and meals among four of us. Shrimp heads are ok, have them if you never had but I have had better. Everything else, salad with strawberries, charcuterie, roasted oysters, pork cheeks, shrimp on fried polenta, cochon-unbelievable.
Best Mac and cheese!
Direct booking ridiculous - $25 per person charge - on your credit card - if you need to cancel or change reservation!"

"Visiting from SF and found this place by review from a NOLA friend. Above and beyond the rest of the cuisine we tried during a 3 day stay. Phenomenal rib appetizer, palate pleasing wood fired oysters (best I've ever had- fresh, light, lovely), balanced flavorful gumbo with fresh and dried shrimp. Mee likely.
Came back the next day for lunch but we were too early. Just around the corner is Butcher, their sandwich shop. Smaller variety, but equally pleasing for meat lovers."

"Fun atmosphere. The tables were fairly close to one another which turned out to be quite a positive feature: We found ourselves interacting with our fellow patrons to either side, sharing both opinions and tastes. The most difficult thing was limiting our selections from the menu such that we didn't look like "cochons" ourselves. The Wood-fired Oyster Roast goes hands down is simply one of the best oyster dishes I've eaten! Fried alligator with chili garlic aioli: Uncharacteristically both tender and savory! Oyster and bacon sandwich: Wow! Louisiana cochon with turnips, cabbage, pickled turnips & cracklins (their signature dish) did not disappoint. Wine selections were quite affordable and enjoyable. Overall a great experience!"

"Hostess was nice but sat us at a table for four when there were booths available for my baby car seat to be placed safely on the booth next to me rather than up higher on top of a high chair. Not the most kid friendly place. Otherwise our server was friendly and attentive. Food was really good!!!"

"Our most memorable meal not only in New Orleans, during our recent vacation there, but also most memorable in a while. We dine often in Boston and New York and we were blown away by the deliciousness of every single bite. We indulged in small plates, apps and entree and dessert and even though we were rolling out of the place, could not have been happier than to have taken each of those bites. We did not think the portions were small. Flavors were outstanding.
We were visiting from out of town and therefore had our 2 small children with us. They were very accommodating.
It really was the highlight of our trip...plus we got to sit outside, which was treat, given we had just left a snowstorm in Boston."
