Harper's Restaurant & Bar is a contemporary interpretation of the American Tavern offering refined food in a casual, rustic setting. A throwback to simpler times with a modern reworking of fresh American food. Harper's is committed to sourcing and using fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients whenever possible.
"The food is always delicious, simple, tasty, fresh and inventive. The bartender is an artist. We have been coming here since it opened. We have celebrated birthdays and graduations, we have brought relatives from across the country, we have brought friends from the city, we came here when our power was out during the Hurricane, we come here for a midweek date night and double dates on Saturday nights. But no matter what the reason, the time of week or the time of year, Harpers is consistently a winner. My personal favorites: crispy duck leg, the brussell spout salad (when in season), the burger, the trout, the mussels and the Mack and Jack. My son swears by the flat iron steak and chocolate torte. But really everything is a winner"

"Fabulous cocktails and excellent food. Noisy, so it was a bit hard for our group of 7 to really talk, but by 9pm or so, it had quieted down. I've been here a few times, and I always love it. Portions seem to be larger than in the past. Try the Rockefeller cocktail (or almost any of their cocktails), the mushroom toast, the trout, potato in duck fat, flatiron steak. Nice chocolate torte for dessert. I've brought kids here and they do a good mac and cheese and other options for children."

"When Harper's first opened, we worried that there werent enough customers to keep this superb neighborhood restaurant going. Now, we cant get a weekend reservation. Well deserved popularity; very pleased you made it."

"menu doesn't change and no main plate specials. The food looks like it was sitting in a steam tray all day. The food can be too salty and the use of oil overdone. Would like to feel that the food was fresher.
I feel the chief has not given this eatery enough focus."

"Nice neighborhood place - American food and pastas. Basic but quite good. Only complaint is the service was scattershot. It was a busy Saturday night, but took time to flag down waitpersons for refills on wine, beer, etc. The place seemed understaffed. But service was friendly and obviously trying. Second time there, will return."

"As usual, everything about Harper's Restaurant was excellent. My guests were my son and his family who live in Los Angeles, and are accustomed to dining at the top restaurants there. They were very impressed with the quality of the food, wine and everything else at Harper's."

"We return to Harper's time after time for our own grown-up dinners for two, or for taking out the kids with the grandparents. For family meals, eat EARLY and ask to be seated in the room "around the corner". Otherwise you sit in the front room right near the entrance which is cramped drafty and three times noisier than everywhere else. The wait staff is patient and puts in extra effort to make all the adults (even when serving our eccentric and picky extended family). Wish though they would be a bit more kid-friendly: would it really be so difficult to chop a few tomatoes to serve my first-grader? Really? You know there are tomatoes in the kitchen:)"

"After moving my table to a booth, we were much cozier. There for restaruant week and only given 1 menu for 3 people I was concerned that this was one the particpating restaurnats that makes you feel uncomfortablwe to participating. But it wasn't, and the food is really innovative and very good. i had the liver appetizer and wow! I NEVER THOUGHT CANDIED WALNUTS ON TOP WOULD WORK BUT IT DOES. tHE REST WAS QUITE GOOD, PORTIONS GOOD SIZED. tHE NOISE WAS HIGH BUT ON THE WHOLE A REALLY GOOD LOCAL SPOT WITH SURPRISINGLY GOOD FOOD."

"We went here for restaurant week and received a great value. The food was nicely prepared and very fresh. I has grilled fish, a lovely appetizer salad with apples, and a yummy panne cotta for dessert. Service was good - attentive and pleasant. Had a blended red wine that was very good. The restaurant is divided down the center w/ bar dining on one side and just dining on the other. I thought the atmosphere on the bar side was more pleasant, better lighting, felt more festive. Atmosphere on the other side of the wall was dull, dark and not warm enough. Overall though, a very good experience."

"One of the best burgers we have had recently and the bonus was the garlic, parsley french fries. We also had brunch there with a group and everyone loved their meal and the specialty Bloody Mary drinks were a big hit. Get the one with the bacon-infused vodka!"

"The first, (initial opening), wasn't a positive experience. Saw Westchester Magazine about best burgers & figured we'd give it a 2nd shot. Burgers were fine, although pricy. The burger itself is $15. By the time you add the optional toppings you are at a $20 burger - which I doubt you can find anywhere in Westchester. I don't like fries, so they subbed a salad with a lemony dressing - ok, but I would have liked tomatoes, carrots, etc. Our son ordered the duck leg and requested mashed potatoes instead of beans. No substitutions we were told (not on the menu), but we ordered them which arrived 20 minutes after the entrees, so we were not charged but they were cold. Cannot believe that they wouldn't make a substitution. Won't return."

"The food was high quality. I had the goat cheese Ravioli with beets. It was very tasty, but not a substantial portion. The beets were a tiny garnish, which was disappointing. The ravioli needs more filling along with herbs. The bread was great. I had panna cottafor dessert, delicious but very skimpy on the fruit."

"We've been meaning to go to Harper's for some time because of the positive reviews. Finally, we went for brunch and had a lovely surprise. The dishes were inventive and delicious with lots of clean, fresh ingredients. Poached eggs with assorted mushrooms was so much more than just that. There's a neat list of beers, wines and interesting cocktails and (now this is pretty important for brunch) really good coffee. The service was perfect, friendly yet professional. Looking forward to returning for dinner."

"We went to Harper's with high hopes having read previous reviews both here and elsewhere. The place is cozy with lots of wood and candles and feels like a cross between a bistro and a pub. It has a nice compact menu and everything is local and seasonal, which I like. The misses were the oysters which we had to start -- at $3.25 a piece, they were a little high to begin with but if they were really good, we would not have minded the price. However, they were tiny and relatively tasteless. The short rib special was very tasty but again, we felt that the value was not there. High price for a relatively small portion (fine for me but not my husband), and we were disappointed. Good but did not feel return on cost was there."

"Our experience at Harper's was disappointing. Key points; slow service, way too long of a wait for drinks, weak mixed drinks so switched to beer and wine. When our server finally brought the check and I paid cash she disappeared never to return with change...now the change left over was approx 8%...I assume she figured 8% was sufficient for the quality of service so she didn't chance bringing me the change for fear of an even smaller tip. The tables were way too close to one another and we felt like we were dining with strangers. Our third and last trip to Harpers and all have been similar; poor service. Would not recommend to a friend.I truly wish the experience was better as I live in Dobbs Ferry and wish I had a go to restaurant."
