"Enjoyed a great meal with my lover at this charming spot. At a vibrant crossroads in north Portland, this corner spot was perfect on a soft Spring evening. The place was originally a trolley car switching station, and the plimpsest which remains adds a nice ambience. Food was utterly delightful, and the staff cordial and professional."

"The pan-seared salmon with chevre dumplings and shallots was a terrific combination of flavors and textures. Everything was fresh, beautifully presented and delectable. The servers were knowledgeable and attentive. A pistachio macaroon with meyer lemon curd for dessert was the perfect finish: nutty, chewy, sweet and tangy. Yum!"

"Very impressed with Cocette. The food was delicious and presently nicely, our waiter was attentive and relaxed. We had the chicken liver mousse for our appetizer and it was fabulous. My husband had the chicken cooked two ways...his favorite was the dark meat confit. I had the salmon with with spinach and fennel. The salmon was cooked perfectly. The restaurant is small so some tables are very close to you but we had a nice young couple next to us and it was easy enough to chat with them at times and hold private conversations as well."

"Our party of 4 were all at Cocotte for the first time. We all loved it. The food was delicious and the drinks were good as well. We had two appetizers that were both amazing, the escargot and the pate. I had the mussels as my main and it was so great that I ate every spoonful of the broth and would have licked the bowl if I could. My husband wasn't as enthusiastic about the fish soup, but he enjoyed it. I would highly recommend this place and will definitely be going back."

"My wife and I just tried Cocotte for the first time. We started with a cheese starter. I was very good. She had the salmon and crab special and I had the salmon dish. Both were good. We found ourselves eating every bit of it (embarrassing to say even the sauce). We both had great desserts and I tried a flight of 3 ports/sherry. We each had a local wine. We will be back. We drove (in a messed up rush hour), but we noticed bus 72 goes right past the restaurant."

"If there was a French word for "home run" I'd use it as the title of this review - because Cocotte knocked it out of the park on our recent visit. "Our group of six was seated right away at a table that was in a good location for hearing all conversation. That's what I asked for when I booked the reservation, and they complied with my request. We were greeted by our waiter who explained the fish special, and answered our questions about the menu. Four of us ordered the petrale sole special, and we were not disappointed. It was delicious! The other two ordered the boulliabaise, and they enjoyed it as well. For dessert we ordered the strawberry/grapefruit sorbet, and it was wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Cocotte, and plan to return."

"This little gem is located in a local neighborhood on Killingsworth. What a find!! We went on a Tuesday to celebrate a birthday and couldn't be happier. We had roast leg of lamb and the sturgeon. Both were worthy of a James Beard award. The presentation was awesome, the service was friendly, unobtrusive and faultless. Excellent cocktails and an extensive wine list. We've eaten in just about every French restaurant on both side of the river and this one deserves a visit. The bill came as a pleasant surprise as well."

"The interior has a romantic, rustic charm. Our server was very helpful. I was concerned about the harissa curry accompanying the Sturgeon. He accurately said it was more flavor than heat and the cream cooled the spiciness. My wife had a delicious duck confit pasta special. We’d recommend Cocotte to anyone who appreciates French-style cuisine and for those who wish to try a very good example of the genre. We have deducted one star for the well-thought out wine list - the problem is the pricing. We support restaurants that provide good wine at reasonable prices, & understand the need for everything “paying its share of overhead”, and rarely take a bottle from our own cellar. Having been forewarned we paid the reasonable $15 corkage."

"The Cocktails were exceptional and unique. The food was mixed from some dishes ( Mussels,Pate,Sturgeon,Lamb) were outstanding but some like the Bouillibase were disappointing. The deserts were very disappointing. The Ice cream (orange blossom flavor)had no flavor what so ever. Further more this was an awful example of Ice cream. It felt like eating cold Butter and not like the balance between cream and milk solids as Ice cream should be. Unfortunately the Ice cream was also a part of other deserts, which ruined other good flavors and accompniments."

"Our waiter was great, and brought us an extra dish of ice cream when I couldn't convince my husband to order that flavor. Food was delicious! Service was a bit slow for our entrees but we were enjoying the company of our friends. We will definitely be back! They have one of the best desserts ever - the pistachio macaroon! Do NOT go there without saving room for it."

"Restaurant is small, unpretentious, with French atmosphere and decor - perfect attention from the waiter, attentive but not hovering or rushing us. Happy hour food is ridiculously generous. Food is locally sourced and imaginatively prepared, delicious combinations of ingredients I would never have thought of (and I love to cook creatively). Good spectrum of dining options, vegetarian just as good as the rest. Really wonderful experience overall."

"I overate at this place because everything was so very good. A limited menu but they do everything very well. It is high level nouvelle cuisine. My partner had braized scallops (Cru de mer) and I had the duck and both were very good. We couldn't resist the desserts afterwards and we both had to waddle to the car. The wine was excellent as well. It's a little pricey so a great special occasion place. We were celebrating a promotion so it was great to finally get to go here (we've been turned away before because didn't make reservations)"

"Delicious French bistro style food. Seafood is not just an afterthought on this menu, it's treated with the respect it deserves. Delicious cocktail list with a fair amount of classic cocktails. They make an amazing Boulvardier! I recommend making a reservation for dinner because the dining room is small (but very charming and cozy)."

"Lovely neighborhood French bistro; finely crafted menu; all dishes w/subtle, honed, excellent flavors & beautifully plated; excellent service; go early for quiet dining-gets lively later; only big drawback=stingy portions. I ordered duck breast, got 2 slices or 1/3 (unless really small ducks?), was hungry & not pleased. Male friend had scallop & crab which really did consist of one scallop thinly-sliced & 1-2 TBS crab (I was alarmed when he received dish because it was too little food for any man), foie gras app=one tsp, etc. (yes, I've been to France several times, ordered lots of duck, foie gras, seafood etc. there, but some Cocotte portions comparatively still on ultra small side). Luckily, they have excellent bread and gourmet butter."

"Cocotte was a nice French alternative. Drawbacks: The noise level was not conducive to successful communication, let alone romance, and the portions were petit. Glasses of wine were relatively expensive and there was no "house" option. [Such a restaurant in France would have a carafe option that would have been quite drinkable.] But the menu was great, with a nice blend of innovation and tradition. A tiny bit of noise about what things cost, [all handled quite pleasantly] so review your check."

"Cocotte is a very nice place, without intrusive music. Most of the food was very nice, but there was something wrong with the mussels. They had a very strong, bitter taste, maybe ammonia. The waiter said the cooks were sure they were alive when cooked -- and I'm sure it's true, but there was something wrong with them.
Everything else was very nice. My wife had the pork belly, which was very tasty, and the chocolate pudding cake, which was great. I had the macaron cake thing, which was odd. I loved the rillettes, my wife didn't.
They offered to buy dessert. Honestly, I doubt the problem with the mussels is very likely to recur, but there you are."

"Everything was ok, they seem like they want to be Le Pigeon or DOC and charge similar prices but don't measure up with the food. The cheese plate comes with two cheeses, fine; one we liked, the other we didn't. My girl got a soufle type dish which was bready and cheesy and also just fine. The salmon stood out as very good. Lastly I'm not a fan that they don't allow for you to choose any items off the prix fix menu if you want to go al la carte. I honestly wouldn't go back with all the great choices around at this price point."
