Two 40 South Restaurant & Wine Bar
Two 40 South houses a 32-wine enomatic system, along with glasses of wine poured straight from the barrel and a specialty martini bar. The food is "farm to table Californian" with a menu starring share plates and brick-oven artisan pizzas.
The space features a communal onyx table, an outdoor "living room" with couches, a dining room with an open kitchen and a trio of semi-private cabanas, an outdoor dining area, and a private party room with state of the art AV equipment. A wine vault houses wine racks, personal wine lockers, and a special enomatic system for eight "high-end" wines, which include 2008 Screaming Eagle, 2007 Harlan Estate, 2008 Scarecrow, and an 1862 Madeira. These wines are all available by the taste. Two 40 South also sells wine at retail price, wine accessories, olive oils, and aged balsamic vinegars in a retail area.

"We went for Sunday brunch. The food was just boring. The place was almost empty the entire time we were there which was from 1:30-6:00. Towards the end, a few people started coming in and hanging out at the bar. I could have made the same omelets and burgers at home. The dining room is pretty and romantic with its semi-private cabana-style tables and high ceiling but the food is just missing the wow factor. Nothing we ate made us want to return. I had the sausage omelet with glazed bacon on the side and my husband had the breakfast burger (included a fried egg on the meat patty). Our friends had similar meals. No one was impressed. Oh well."

"I went to lunch with a party of four (including me). We went at 1:45 on a Sunday afternoon, and as far as we could see, we were the only ones there! I guess it is much busier in the evenings or during the week for lunch. The food was alright. I ordered the Chicken Caesar Salad...It was rather small but very tasty. It came with two crostini with cheese and herbs on them. Others had the vegetarian omelet, Strawberry green salad and the Ricotta Lemon Pancakes. The omelet was good but I tasted the potatoes, and personally, I thought they were the best thing served! The pancakes were liked very much, the Strawberry Salad was just okay. Service was very good. Would rather have had the regular lunch menu instead of Brunch one."

"Restaurant has recently changed hands and has a new menu. My husband loved his meaty meats pizza and thought the sauce on the shrimp appetizer was yummy, but upset it was not served with any bread to dip in it. However, the rest of the food was just so so. My daughter's flatbread had neither the broccolini nor prosciutto listed on the menu, just way too much cheese with a few pieces of broccoli, and my $26.00 salmon was a small dry slab atop a large pile of pasta. The wine in the dispenser seems very overpriced. e.g. $30.00 a glass for a wine that retails for $39.99 a bottle. In contrast, the bottle of wine we ordered off the large list was reasonably priced. Maybe in time things will get better, but I don't think we would return."

"If you like fine wines and great food, try Two 40 South. The food is excellent and they are set up to allow you to try any number of different wines either with or without dinner. The Mother's Day brunch was outstanding and we'll be going back for the Father's Day brunch. The staff is great and the ambience is outstanding. We travel a lot and see a lot of different restaurants, so we are picky. To find this restaurant right in our backyard was awesome."

"Took my wife here for Mother's Day Brunch. The food was great and the desserts were even better! However, the service definitely needed help. We were sat 30 minutes after our reservation time (they opened at 10a. and our reservation was at 10a.). We had to wait an additional 20 minutes to receive any drinks, and even then we had to pull a waitress aside and ask if she could bring us drinks. Other servers kept passing by us and seeing that we had no drinks, yet none would offer any. It didn't seem like any servers were in charge of our section at all. Aside from the drink delay, everything else was very pleasant. They're spaghetti was great in flavor and as was the salmon. The cheesecake was my favorite of all the desserts!"

"What a great first impression the owner and McGyver, the bartender, made upon my first visit at Two Forty South, but how that quickly changed. We ordered an appetizer, dispensed a splash of wine, and in the meantime, the bus boy cleared our table, completely, assumed we were gone. The server, seeing the table had been cleared, asked us if we were ready for dessert. We hadn't even had our entree yet! Then the bill came ... completely wrong ... twice! A 2 oz. glass of wine plus a 1/2 glass of another wine totalled $34 when in fact it was only supposed to add up to $9.75. The server, attempting to "fix it", reduced the wine bill down to $14.75 ... still wrong! Sorry ... won't go back until the right hand knows what the left hand does!"

"We celebrate my friend's birthday at this restaurant last weekend. Late sunday night, not too many customers. We ordered 2 filet steak and a bacon wrap duck. The food was great. Highly recommend people come here to enjoy a nice dinner with a glass of wine."

"An innovative self-service wine-by-the-glass delivery system from bottles attached to a vending machine. It had some bugs that need to be worked out. If the bottle didn't have enough left to fill the pour you would be charged the full price for a short pour. When I called attention to this, the waiter compted the glass. The mark-ups on the wine was abnormally high. Given that the normal services of a wine steward is not provided, I would think a lower than average mark-up would be more appropriate."

"I love this place, we frequently come for dinner - and this time, we tried their brunch. It was excellent - we will definitely come back for brunch to try other items on the menu. They change their menus frequently, so it's always nice to try other items which always excellent.
The wine selections is always good too, either from the menu or from the wine machine. They never disappoint us and each time we always looking forward to our next visit."

"Reservations for my wife's 60th birthday were easily made via the internet. We actually arrived an hour earlier and were accomodated with our table immediately into a cozy shell booth with soothing music. Our server Mahyar made us feel most welcome and provided us with a informative tour of the menu as well as the wine bar. My wife chose the wine bar sips via a automated card, during which she chose a few delicious wines from appetizer to dinner to dessert. We shared a French Onion soup (with wonderful bread) which is a must, and did separate caesar and beet salads. I did the lamb duo and wife had the steelhead salmon which was eye candie, delicious, and generous in portions. We topped this meal off with a creme dessert. Thanks Mahyar!!!"

"Fun wine tasting and a 3 oz. pour is half the price of a 6 oz. pour so it's nice to taste various wines without the guilt of having to feel like you're getting more bang for your buck for the larger pour. It's nice to see the bottles in case you want to buy the bottle or drink it again later. Tables against wall were cramped and hostess sat all patrons along same wall when remainder of restaurant was empty. We kept having to move the table to avoid scraping against the chairs of other people dining nearby. Food is good. Portions are somewhat small."

"We always enjoy!! This time, our server was invisible and we were left alone to enjoy a wonderful dinner without interruption every two minutes. Head chef was not present, but the #2 chef was DELIGHTFUL. Kitchen works VERY smoothly, with food delivery exceedingly well-paced. Staff understands the menu very well, and the self-service wine bar allows sampling of various wines, to find "just the right one." We shall return!!!"

"Very nice experience. The food was very good and the ambiance was quite nice. It's very nice to sit outdoors on the patio for dinner. One strange thing for a fine dining experience was that they didn't replace silverware between courses. The waiter took the fork and knife off the used plate and set them back on the table. "The food was outstanding! Everything we ordered was amazing. My only issues would've been the menu online is different that the actual one. Not a lot of vegetarian options and the portions were rather small on some items (mainly the non meat ones, the meat portions were pretty large). My husband said the best part was the meatballs, so that is a great choice for an appetizer. Great service too."

"This was our first time visiting after the chef change. Congrats to the promoted Exec Chef. The food was still quite good but we noticed the changes in the menu. There are less "foodie" options and more mainstream dishes (pizzas, typical desserts, etc.) I get it... give the people what they want and stuff. The soup du jour was disappointing (tomato with seafood ceviche). The lamb was decadent and savory. Great location, decor, and vibe. The servers are friendly and helpful. Overall, we'll return, but we're not in a rush to do so."

"Went for dinner, the food was good, but the waiter overcharged us twice, apologized profusely but come on twice?? The wine that is in the automatic wine dispenser for wine tasting is cheap tasting wine, I would have been better off ordering a bottle from the wine list, or better yet bringing in my own bottle. Overall the ambiance is nice, and I think I will give them another chance one of these days."

"Nothing that stand out to say about Two 40 South, French Onion Soup was good, but not great, wife enjoyed the beet salad. The blue chesse souffles was a little disappointing, not much taste, and no blue cheese taste. Main course was OK, wife had the filet, she say it was good. I had the Lamb, the rack was good, the lamb chucks were a little over done.
Wine by the bottle was a better deal then buy wine from the glass from the self server system."

"Went here for lunch not realizing that they do Sunday brunch, so I ended up with brunch and it was good but I still want to go back and have a non-breakfast item from their menu. The ambiance was nice and if I wasn't driving I would have had something from their extensive wine list."

"It was awesome. The place has a romantic feel to it. The food was outstanding. And the way they do wine was the coolest part. The plastic card they give you taste is the neatest thing I've ever seen. You can taste, get a half glass or a full glass all at the touch of a button. Price very on price per bottle. An average taste is about $3. I tryed like 10 different wines for about $20. It was very reasonable for the quality you get. I met the owner and got a personal tour of the wine cellar. This is a definite place to come and see and I will be returning shortly."

"We love, love, love this place. It can be pricey, but for a special occasion, entertain business associates, etc. Plus, it does have some mid-range items (great flat bread pizza!). The wine tasting element is fun. The staff and management (Kevin) are spec-ta-cu-lar."

"We went for valentines day, where there was a set menu for 60$ a person. It was a beautiful 4 course meal with wonderful plate presentation and taste. There were no vegetarian options which I personally feel should be on all menus, but the meal was still delicious. My boyfriend and I do not drink but their wine room looked well stocked and couples around us all had a bottle on their table, or used the vending machine of wine. Overall it was a beautiful romantic evening and we will be returning again when the menu is open."

"Food was cold as we had to wait for the staff to bring out the salmon for a member of our group. It was more than 30 min wait. In addition, the restaurant general manager gave out his business card at the end of our meal only to selected members of our group. He failed to give it to me (the organizer - may be because I am an Asian) and three of our Japanese guests. It was an insult to me and our foreign Japanese guests."
