"We must have gone on an off nite as the service was terrible. We waited over 45 minutes for our main meals after the appetizers. It was very busy but it took almost 3 hours to eat and we didnt have coffee or desert"

"Went on Fri May 3 for my wife's birthday during LI Restaurant week. Arrived at 720pm with a party of 5. Sat down and 50 minutes later after twice asking where are our appetizers, they were eventually brought out. Another hour wait for the main course. The skirt steak portion was extremely small. By the time dinner was over and I had a check in my hand, it was 2 hours and 45 minutes later. There were 8 other tables that night. It wasn't close to being filled. This was the longest dinner I have had and this restaurant ISN'T worth the wait or for their food. We will NEVER go back again!"

"1st time to this restaurant. Excellent choices on menu.
Excellent food. The duck was the BEST I've ever tasted.
The marinated skirt steak was terrific. The tagliatelle bolognase with veal sausage appetizer was made with homemade pasta. Really flavorful,.
Can't wait to go back to order it as a main dish.
The service was superb. They literally refilled my water glass 10 times. It never was empty.
I will tell all to try this local restaurant."

"The service was friendly and attentive despite the crush of the Restaurant Week crowd. Our table was ready at the reserved time. Our waitress spent several minutes discussing choices with us and never making us feel rushed.

The food was excellent. Tagliatelle Bolognese appetizer and duck entree were exquisite. My wife complained that the brook trout was a little salty for her taste, but she enjoyed it nevertheless.

Note that their prix-fixe menu is available all day Sundays, so we can afford to keep this place on our regular list even after Restaurant Week is over."

"As always dinner was very good. The food is delciious and creative. The chilaean sea bass with the braised leeks is absolutely amazing. And dinner is complete with the homemade tiramisu which is fantastic.

"Starting with the crab cake appetizer all the way through to the homemade tiramisu, the food was a delight! Wine choices were also very good. Service, though, was another story - we had a reservation, and were seated before our friends arrived. Strangely, no one thought to bring our friends to our table when they checked in with the host, and it was 15 minutes before we got things figured out...we did get to spend alot of time catching up, though, because it took 45 minutes from the time we ordered to get anything besides bread and drinks. That said, the staff was very nice, just not very communicative about the progress of our dinners. We agreed we would give 490 West another try, since the food was so delicious!"

"Let me start off by saying I would go back again to 490 West. The food was excellent, our waitress was sweet and helpful, but for some reason it took nearly 3 hours to eat dinner. Our drink orders were taken 15 minutes after we arrive, we ordered 2 pots of mussels for appetizers(delicious and a great value at $12) as well as dinner. After a lengthy appetizer and dinner a soufle was ordered for dessert but took nearly 40 minutes to arrive because "The first soufle sunk".
Again, dinner was long but I choose to think it was just an off night for some reason and my wife and I will certainly go back again but will certainly make sure we take less time to eat."

"We loved this place! The meal was excellent and service was great. They advertised that they accommodate food allergies and that was a key reason for us to try this restaurant. The waitress knew pretty much all the ingredients used in the dishes we ordered, and what she wasn't sure of she made certain to ask the chef. Everything we had was cooked to perfection and delicious! I would really recommend this place and will certainly be going back again."

"First time at 490 West, it was good but not great. Sea scallops and gnocchi w/brown butter appetizers were nice, but I've had scallops cooked better; the gnocchi were swimming in more butter than I consider ideal, rather heavy and filling. Brook trout entree was nicely done, but portions were a bit large and risotto served in a separate bowl made it difficult to enjoy it as a cohesive dish. Veal steak steak my husband had but was nice but not exactly as described on the menu. Service was friendly but a bit slow. Restaurant is a nice cozy, setting; we had a 6:30 reservation and it was not crowed and quiet, rather pleasant. Overall an enjoyable, reasonably priced meal, but there are better places in the area."

"The food was amazing! The wait staff was friendly, but seemed a littled amateur. The restaurant's decor is outdated and the fact that the lights kept flickering was a little annoying. "Went to 490 West for Valentine's Day. Everything was excellent except our table wasn't ready on time. Still, we had a seat at the bar and were seated before even finished our drinks. "My wife and I had the chef's tasting menu and it was fantastic. The decor was kind of drab and there were extended delays between getting our wine and taking our dinner order as well as between a few of the courses. But the food more than made up for it. We'll definitely go back."

"Everyone in my party was satisfied with their food. I ordered the 6 course tasting menu, which covered the gamut on the menu. My only criticism would be that the dishes were generously laden with oils and other cooking fats. While this made the dishes very flavorful, it also was very heavy to digest. I am probably in the minority... most people prefer full-flavored food, and if that's the case for you, then this restaurant will certainly not disappoint you."

"We have been here twice and food and service were wonderful on both occasions. Very friendly and accommodating staff, delicious food and a nice variety on the menu. Also, it is one of those rare places these days where you can engage in conversation at your table without being drowned out by noise. Highly recommended."

"Food was excellent. Gnocchi special was tender and sauce was great. Brook trout was also tasty and well prepared. Service was terrific. This is a wonderful family restaurant in terms of its cooking.
Table for 2 we sat it was at window and was drafty. I didnt try to change it as we were first time diners. Ample parking in lot outside.
Will certainly put in on my list of restaurants to frequent regularly even though it is not in my general area. It was worth the 20 minute trip."

"My husband and I enjoyed an extraordinarily delicious, romantic dinner for my birthday. The warm, friendly server accommodated my special request for the Mushroom Risotto accompanying a delicious Veal Steak (with prosciutto and eggplant) and my husband's dietary needs due to diabetes. The fresh beet salad was "just off the farm" and I cleaned my plate! We look forward to dining at 490 West more often and enjoying their Price Fixed menu or sampling menu. Bravo!!!"
