"Great service and food are just the starters. The outside dining area is a secluded spot with vine covered walls and trees covered in white lights. Our small group was celebrating a 60th birthday. A perfect atmosphere for a perfect evening that we will never forget."

"I was most impressed by the wonderful service at Laili's. We went to the restaurant for the first time on a Saturday night, 5/18/13. From the minute we arrived, the service was impeccable. It wasn't formal or pretentious but kind and helpful. Though we had a reservation there was no wait - as there often is with other restaurants in SC. The food was excellent - fresh ingrediants, interesting spices and representative of the warm spirt of Laili. We will definitely return to Laili for their unique dishes but it is also the kind, generous spirt of the wait staff that will bring us back there. A great asset to the Santa Cruz dining scene."

"I really wanted to love this place. We ate here on a Saturday night and thought the food and overall experience was good, but not outstanding in any way. Server was friendly. We liked the warm naan that was brought to the table. We started with the dumplings and they were tasty, but not inspirational. I ordered trout and again, it was tasty, but not exceptional. My friend's lamb shanks were just ok. The service was good, up until the time that I saw our finished meals placed on the counter for delivery to the table, where they sat . . . for several minutes. By the time the food got to the table, it was only lukewarm. I was really hoping this would be a new "go to." I would eat here again, but would not make a special trip to do so."

"I made my reservation through the online system which didn't seem to have an option of reserving an outdoor table. This was unfortunate because I figured we would be able to tell them when we arrived but it was all reserved which I did not even know was possible."

"I was invited to Laili by a business associate who had to cancel at the last minute. So i decided to try it with a client for lunch and was utterly delighted by our dining experience. The highlight, I must admit was the outdoor dining....a slice of Europe or even South American..this slice of a courtyard, situated between two large historic old buildings, is covered in passionvine, trellises, and tropical plants, highlighted by decorative fountains and sculptures. We just kept saying we felt like we were in another country, but actually in downtown Santa Cruz.
Our waitress was extremely friendly and competent and accommodating. We shared a pasta dish and half salads, all were delicious. Can't wait to go back w/friends and family."

"I picked this restaurant randomly from a google maps search, with my only criteria being a high zagat score. It certainly lived up to its score!! Excellent food. It's hard to get big chunks of kabob meat to cook evenly and remain tender and flavorful. The most amazing side dishes and appetizers. Beautiful outdoor setting and wonderful waitstaff. On top of it, the prices were great. We couldn't have been more pleased with the whole experience."

"Another fantastic dinner! Service was undoubtedly the best you'll find at any restaurant. Food was innovative and tasty. Special salad with strawberries and goat cheese was large, very lightly dressed and outstanding. Pumpkin Buranee and flat bread is always good. Tried menu item: arugula pesto pasta - wow that was good! Another menu item: trout, my wife had it last time and raved. Same this time. That's what you'd expect from a very good restaurant, same great menu item every time. Warm Chai and lime-mint soda (a 'nojito': sans booze) were both very good. And did I say the service staff was right there when you needed, not there when you didn't need them. Can you say 'repeat customer' + 'take your friends'?"

"This is one of the best restaurants I have ever visited. We ate outside and our server, Matt, was exceptional. The food was good, service was good and the garden courtyard was beautifully planted with tropical plants and grapevines. Outdoor heaters were there for those chilly nights, as well."

"I really enjoy the clean, fresh atmosphere and the unique menu. Fresh, eclectic, lots of vegetarian and vegan choices. Service is always impeccable and they are very accommodating. The noise level, however, is almost deafening. I was almost yelling to my friend to be heard. I am not sure what can be done, but I hope something can be. Also there was a table of four adults close by that paid no attention to their 4 children (8-12 years old) who sat at an adjacent table. Kids were fine for awhile and clearly got bored and tired. Made a mess on the floor, played with the drapes, made way too much noise. When is it appropriate for the restaurant to say something? It definitely had an affect on my dining experience."

"We really enjoyed the food, the lamb was excellent, though my husband would suggest that the wait staff ask how you would like it prepared, as he prefers it medium, not done.But we also enjoyed the chicken and it was succulent and tasty, with fragrant rice and lots of nice dips to accompany both dishes. We liked the silk road appetizer very much, it could be a nice lunch in fact! The pressed coffee was perfect! And we will most definitely return again soon!"

"I was down in Santa Cruz on business and discovered this gem. The service was right on the mark. The outside courtyard is amazing, vines all over the walls, birds signing, designed very tastefully, you feel like you disappeared to Europe. The wine, Chardonnay, was nicely chilled, very tasty. The appetizer dumplings were not what I had in mind, but that said, I did not really use the greek flavored yogurt that was paired with it (I avoid dairy). I had the trout, beyond delicious, with lemon/herbs, and saffron rice, delicious! I highly recommend and will return when back in the area."

"Who knew such a good restaurant existed in Santa Cruz! It's been a long time since I visited (coming from SF) so I was surprised at how nice Downtown SC was and to find this restaurant. Though a bit pricey, the food is amazing. We had vegetarian dumplings to start. For entrees we had the chicken and lamb kebabs which we loved. We of course got the baklava to end the meal. Also, loved their lemon ginger soda!!"

"We have had several lunches, and now dinner at Laili's and have enjoyed them all. The room is very well designed, comfortable seating, tables not overly close, and the food is always good. We had lamb shanks, and beet salad, and with a couple of glasses of wine, followed by cardamom coffee, and pomegranite icecream, just what we wanted."

"I love Laili's soups and sauces! they keep me coming back. Laili has an intimately set outdoor patio that's very charming and unique. It's private and great for a sunny day or warm evening. Would make a really special place for a private event. Food and service are consistently good."

"Wonderful, creative food - 4 of us ordered different items so we could share because so many things looked great. Nothing disappointed us, and I left wanting to try other dishes. Server was very nice, friendly, and helpful, but a little slow so come when you have time and are not rushed. I will definitely be back!"

"Perfection! Stylish restaurant, friendly and attentive staff, tasty, wonderful food: what more could you ask for?! Entree portions are on the generous side so don't fill up on the complimentary flat bread. Cannot wait to go back and try other dishes. The lamb tenderloin kebab was spectacular!"

"All in all, this was a great find last minute while spending the weekend in Santa Cruz. The outside patio has a great ambiance. The food was very good/great. We had an appetizer and each had an entree and we were stuffed. Our waitress was the worst part of the experience. She wasn't rude or anything, she was just a person that stopped by our table 3 times (drink order, food order, check) and spoke very monotone with little to no emotion at all. She just needs a different job, one that isn't centered around personality. The runners and buser's were 10 times more helpful and freindly. Its a shame the tip goes to her. Otherwise, very nice presentation and details, and surprisingly cheaper than I would have expected for the overall experience."

"We came here for a birthday dinner and were very pleased with the open, yet warm ambiance and the friendly and helpful service. We live in the City and were very happy with the pricing of the menu given the quality of the food.
We highly recommend the pumpkin bolani and the lime filet mignon kabob. My lamb kabob wasn't tender and it lost a bit of the flavor of the lamb. The accompanied rice was a little too sweet as was the qay maug chai (and they didn't offer a soy/almond milk option for the chai). The menu was exciting, but the dishes need a little development when it comes to flavor.
Overall, it was a hearty, enjoyable meal."
