"This restaurant was recommended to us by a frequent traveller who is a former Beverly Hills resident. She told us its the first place she comes to and would never be happy if a trip to LA didn't include a meal here. We were treated graciously and told that a dish we wanted could be made with homemade pasta though it didn't happen to feature homemade pasta originally. The waiter also told us, "if it's Italian, we'll make it for you!". One of us had a fish special which was generous and truly delicious; a spicy seafood pasta was terrific. Homemade ravioli was a bit too al dente but the filling and sauce were delicious. The friendly atmosphere and location around lovely shops made for a perfect, relaxed, unpressured dining experience."

"Il Pastaio has been my favorite restaurant in Beverly Hills for something like 20 years. But I have to say, the last couple of time I went there, I have been disappointed. In this case, my friend and I both ordered the special roasted cauliflower salad and were surprised to find that it was mostly lettuce with some shavings of cauliflower. Roasted cauliflower can be done so well, it was too bad that that was not the main flavor of the dish. We also ordered the chickpea soup to start. That was perfectly fine although nothing special."

"I have loved this restaurant for many years, but not at all on this most recent visit. My 2 guests had never dined here and were eagerly anticipating a fabulous experience. We were seated in the covered outside area which was fine, but were mostly ignored by an inattentive waiter.
The presentation of our plated items was not as appetizing or appealing as they always had been, and didn't taste any better than they appeared. My branzino was dry and served with colorless vegetables which must have been sitting too long in the warmer. My guests' pasta dishes had that same dull look, texture, and taste which indicated the staleness produced by a warmer or a heat lamp.
If this were my only visit, I would be unlikely to return."

"On vacation from the UK, this was the 2nd visit for my wife and I although 2 years since the last one. Once again the food and service were very good and we had a very enjoyable evening. The only down side for me is the tables are a little too close together so that we felt we were intruding in the couple next to us ( and vice versa presumably) However, would not hesitate to go again"

"A great and consistently reliable Italian culinary experience: food is simple, great product quality, straightforward and quite authentic vs. American interpretations of Italian food. Remember that as this is Italian-owned and also staffed to a great degree, it's more like service in Italy: accurate, efficient and competent vs. charming, ebulient or engaging. One good thingh is also that it's really all about the food and conversation as opposed to the typical scene today of some egotistical prima donna chef making it all aboutr him. At Il Paataio it's about a fun setting, delicious and simple cuisine, great variety and high energy.
