"This is a typical wine bar with tasty small bites and good wine selections. We have eaten there before and most probably will again. There was one off putting experience that might make me hesitate, in the future. It was very clear, after the bill arrived, that we were no longer welcomed guests. A visit to our table by the hostess made it very clear that we had outstayed our welcome."

"We've always had good experiences here. Unfortunately, that was not the case for this visit. Not sure if they recently had a turnover in staff. We were moved around several times. We ordered wines to pair with the food but our server forgot the wines. In the past, our servers seemed knowledgeble about the food and offered suggestions for the wine pairings. Not true in this case. Very disappointing experience for us local regulars."

"Great food, as usual, but the pacing of food arrival was too slow. We'd be waiting 15 -20 minutes before a course of small plate is served. The server had to apologize for how slow the food came out. Otherwise, the food and wine are outstanding. Our foodie friend from Chicago wants to bring his wife here next time. (For the food, not the wait)."

"I would have given service a 5 except we had to wait over 25 min on uncomfortable stools for our table even though we had a reservation and had to ask for some things multiple times. At least they could have given us a glass of wine while we waited or comped our corkage fee. Everyone was very apologetic and incredibly nice and friendly and thanked us for our patience and explained they were slammed by a lot of walk ins. Otherwise we really enjoyed it. Staff was knowledgeable and super friendly, restaurant wasn't so loud we couldn't talk, food was outstanding, "tasting" portions were actually generous, they gave us a nice table, parking easy. We'll go back but they need to do a better job of honoring reservations."

"Everything we tried in terms of food was good. We started with a few cocktails which were good, but not mind blowingly great. We also brought in several bottles of wine which they happily opened for us. We paid a $10 corkage for each of those. We truly enjoyed ourselves overall but felt that the decor needs a refreshment. And service was a little scattered as there were only two servers taking care of the very full dining room. All in all, a good spot to dine if you're looking for something off of the beaten path."

"We've now been twice and loved almost everything we've tried. They have a phenomenal menu that is incredibly varied but also reasonably priced. My wife and I usually split 5-6 dishes and a bottle of wine and we can get out for under $150. Definitely try Upstairs 2. We can't wait to go back again."

"UPSTAIRS 2, run by its chef Todd and the always gracious and upbeat Marilyn is simply GREAT.
The flatbreads, the elk, the antelope, the salads, the veggies, the fish - the hardest thing is to decide what to order. Take your time, order by courses, UPSTAIRS 2 is patient and does not make you order fast. It is truly luxurious and relaxed eating.
Go and go back over and over!"

"We have come to Upstairs 2 several times for dinner, and each was a culinary delight! The menu options are so varied, creative and perfectly prepared. I love the portion sizes - it makes trying more selections irresistible. The wine list is spectacular, and there are many other great cocktail and beer choices. From start to finish, (don't miss the Sticky Toffee pudding with vanilla gelato) it is a wonderful place that you will definitely want to come back to often."

"The game meat was good there. We ordered the pre-fixe menu that came with the wine pairing. The flavors of the dishes were to the right amount. The baison sausage salad was surprisingly my favorite dish, but I also enjoyed the quail. The wine pairings were done nicely as well. The crowd is an older crowd, but the experience overall was great."

"I made a reservation here because The Six was booked and OpenTable said Upstairs2 was similar. Upstairs2 also got really great reviews from other diners, so it seemed like I couldn't go too wrong...and it turned out to be really great! I had a very tasty basil gimlet cocktail to start, then my friend and I ordered four small dishes to share: lamb meatballs, duck cassoulet, the trio of tapenades, and scallops with saffron risotto. All of them were out of this world. And I really love small dishes; one big plate of the same thing can be boring, and I like the variety of ordering several things at once. The service was very friendly and attentive. You must try it!!"

"The food, while not extremely innovative, is always elegantly prepared, with very good balance to the flavors. I love this place mainly because o f the wine pairings. I always trust them to find interesting wines that will match each dish AND each wine is served in the appropriate stemware which many restaurants don't do. But this restaurant is above the Wine House so no surprise that they are so knowledgeable. The $47 tasting menu is a great bargain. It includes 3 courses with 3 wine pairings."

"My husband and I and another couple meet for dinner at Upstairs2 at least once a month and have never had a bad meal here, at very reasonable prices, with lovely ambience, and a knowledgable wait-staff who are prepared to answer all wine or food questions. If you are on their mailing list for e-mail updates, you can get notices of upcoming special prices on fixed-price dinners - great bargains, featuring distinctively interesting and tasty dishes. Once inside the restaurant, peace and quiet reign, and the ambience is lovely, although this is hard to imagine as you stand in the parking lot, on top of a wine store where you will be looking right at the 405 freeway. Never fear. Once you step through the door, you will be a happy diner."

"One of the best places in LA to get small plates with a great selection of wines that pair with them by the taste, glass, carafe or bottle. An evening there is a special treat. You will eat and drink well no matter what your taste or what you order and if unsure about wine or food, trust your server. "Or you just might miss this hidden gem. The restaurant is tucked away on the top floor of what appears to be a general nondescript office building. The surrounding neighborhood is also less than to be desired shall we say. However, when you drive up the ramp to park and enter the space, you are magically transported to a trendy upscale dining experience. The food is outstanding and if it is your first visit, definitely go with the tasting menu. It is both reasonably priced and provides a great overall sample of all the dishes and wine parings. It is definitely a different dining experience at Upstairs 2, but highly recommended. You cannot go wrong here."

"The food was very good, well presented and quite reasonably priced. But what really sold me was the vast selection of wines in 2.5 oz. pours. This allowed me to have the right wine with each course. The menu is cleverly written in a way that makes choosing the right wine easy. We will definitely return."

"During this first visit back to US2, the execution of the food, which had been uninspired during a prior visit, emerged this time as polished from start to finish. If memory serves, the menu itself also showed greater innovation. Don't miss the duck cassoulet or the blood orange salad.

"Given the eclectic menu and suggested pairings of wines with dishes, and the opportunity to order small tastes as well as glasses and carafes, Upstairs 2 is a unique gem in west LA, located above the Wine House. The only downside is tables are crammed close together, the space is small, and on a Saturday night when the place was full, you couldn't hear youself talk. Generally good was very good (esp the lamb and marscapone ravioli, brussels sprout and fennel salad, lobster bisque... and while very tasty, the mushroom-encrusted halibut was overcooked."

"What a fantastic restaurant! We knew there was a restaurant above the wine house but thought it was a small place for cheese and crackers to go with your wine from downstairs. We couldn't have been more wrong. The place was packed when arrived and we soon found out why. They have a tapas-style menu and so we ordered 5-6 different things. They were all incredible. Stuffed dates were epic, the Mahi Mahi "taco" was incredible, the bison steak and mashed potatoes were fantastic, and the toffee dessert was unreal. The only thing we thought was only ok was the duck stew. On top of the food, the service was very helpful and welcoming. We can't wait to go back and try some of the things we missed."

"My boyfriend and I wanted to try this place during DineLA but it was all booked up. We went last Friday and understood why! The wine list is awesome (and so is the sommelier), the wait staff are super friendly and knowledgeable, and the food was delectable. The rabbit stew, which is not always on the menu, was especially sublime. I like places that do small plates like this because you have the opportunity to try so many things, and there is no shortage of yummy things here. I look forward to going back and having some of the dishes that didn't make the cut this time around!"
