Max Brenner, Chocolate by the Bald Man, the first restaurant entirely devoted to chocolate, provides a "chocolate mood:" a person being surrounded by huge bricks, candles, pralines, colorful toy tins and crates filled with cocoa beans. Each person"s chocolate experience is exclusive to the individual as it brings out different emotions in each and every person. This can be experienced at our retail shop and dining room. In addition to our unique chocolate, we also offer delicious savory foods. Whether it is our famous Brenner Burger or Mac & Cheese, there will be something for everyone in the group!

"Great, fun place! Only got desserts, & they're all unique choices. The dessert I ordered off the menu is actually no longer available, so they recreated it as best they could & gave me a discount, a very nice gesture! The only only drawback was that it was VERY noisy."

"We flat out love this place! My girls are all about chocolate, and finding a restaurant that looks at life through the same cocoa-colored glasses is perfect for them. Good beer menu for me aswell - everybody's happy!
This was a typical visit. Called them to let them know we were running late (graduation weekend traffic); they seated us right when we got there. Our waitress was training a new person; the interactions with both were seamless and just right. Note that when the staff recommends 1/2 of the chocolate pizza for 3 people, you should probably take the advice. Wow - good, but RICH!"

"While I always enjoy the food and atmosphere at Max Brenner, the service is not always great. On this occasion, the hostess, (who I spoke to on the phone to put my name on the patio list), chastised me when I mentioned our conversation. She said that I didn't call because my reservation was made online. Additionally my drink got forgotten and I had to remind the waitress a couple times to bring it. Lastly, while I understand the demands of the Sunday afternoon brunch crowd, it was a little frustrating to have to wait for our server to remember us. It is a bit disappointing since I enjoy the food so much. I will likely take a break from here for a while - there are other restaurants in the Back Bay with nice outdoor spaces..."

"While the food is either hit or miss, there is nothing left to be desired when it comes to their desserts. I don't often suggest this place for dinner but I almost never miss an opportunity to frequent it for desserts and drinks! Always looking forward to my next late night stop here!"

"I went here for Sunday brunch with a friend. We wanted to sit outside so we sat at the bar for a couple drinks while we waited. The drinks are amazing. If you can, ask for Ryan... Great outgoing bartender. We sat on the patio to eat and it's a great spot to get some sun and people watch. We both got egg white omelettes which were delicious. Leo was our server and also great... So friendly. Highly recommend brunch here!"

"We had reservations for 6:30, which were honored as soon as we arrived. Our waiter (?Will?) was wonderful-professional, friendly. The food was excellent and fun. It was quite loud and festive. My veggie burger we delicious and Ceasar salad was also. My only complaint is that it took 2 hours for dinner to arrive. So if you are not in a rush and want to enjoy a long leisurly get-together with friends, they certainly don't rush you out the door. Desserts were delicious, filling-we shared."

"We picked Max Brenner's to support Boylston Street given its location. The food and atmosphere are fun and it's a great place to take the kids. Most places on Boylston that evening were unusually busy given the events of the prior week which may explain some delays in service - especially at the bar. But, other than that it's worth going to, especially if you love chocolate."

"Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate. If chocolate isn't your thing, don't bother. But if it is, this is not to be missed. We went for Sunday brunch with two adults and two children. The kids selections were fun, whimsical and yummy; make your own hot chocolate, chocolate shakes, chocolate pancakes, chocolate crepes. For the grown ups the french toast and belgum waffles hit the spot. The chocolate martini was perfect. Our server, Julie, was enthusiastic and attentive. Will denfinitely hit this one again!"

"We were sat behind a table of children who's parents were conveniently well out of ear and eye shot, conveniently for them...on the other side of the restaurant. The 5 kids were up and down to their table, extremely loud (yelling, swearing, crying - not a single supervising adult is present). Incredibly disruptive and distracting to our experience. While the manager came over to discuss with us (super nice guy), I really wish Max Brenner's would take a step to (in the future) insist that (at least one of the) adults stay w their children. I now understand that the plzce is kid friendly, but the restaurant is not your babysitter!!"

"Though I selected the location due to the chocolate concept, I did find the food to be just OK. The drinks were definiately wonderful. The best thing about the expereince was the waiter. He made it worthy of going. He was nice and entertaining and spent time with us to help us with our order. I would recommend going to just be at the bar or eating outside which in Bosotn is great fun. I would wait until the weather was just a little bit warmer ;)"

"It's a fun place for all things chocolate, but the food is so-so. Your kids and pickier eaters will love it. The fondues, crepes, hot chocolates, and milkshakes are fun and tasty. Come for dessert. But in terms of food, it's not that much different than a souped-up Applebees with a better interior designer/architect."

"The hostesses were SO incredibly rude, we almost left before we even got started. The table we were seated at had chairs with no backs, REALLY uncomfortable. The waiter messed up my friends order and he had to eat after we were all finished. It was so loud we couldn't hear each other talk. And there are few, if any, choices for those who have gluten sensitivity. Overall, I won't be back."

"Food is what I expect for the price, but it's the desserts and specialty drinks that that stand out at Max Brenner. My table tried multiple drinks including Tiramisu (brandy, kahlua, espresso, chocolate), chocolate martini (milk and white chocolate, absolute vanilla, creme de cacao), and the Brazillian Breezer (veev acai liqueur, cranberry juice, and guava nectar), all of which were excellent. For dessert, I would highly recommend trying the Chocolate Fondue or the Banana Split Waffles, both delicious."

"This restaurant certainly does a good job of marketing itself. It sounded fun and delicious - turned out to be WAY too loud for conversation, even among college students, the food was mediocre at best, the chocolate was pretty ordinary, although the over-the-top desserts were presented in a very appealing way. The desserts tasted insipid and way too sweet, the coffee in the very special kangaroo cup was "disappointing" looking - filled only halfway, and the promised special spoon never arrived. The waitress got the salad order wrong and thus the rest of our meals were held up, and the table was way too small for 4 (smallish) students. I wouldn't go back."

"I booked reservation a month in advance so was disappointed to be squashed at a small table in the middle of the room with people around a pillar either side of me.
Also when I booked, the form asked if I had any special requests and I asked if there was anything special for birthdays and this was never acknowledged.
We have been once before and had a much nicer experience then, which is why I wanted to go there for my birthday. But although I could not fault the food, it was not the birthday experience I had hoped for."

"Food is always delcious; presentation is great. Waiter should have written down our order as my friend's sandwich came out with items on she did not want, and therefore, didn't eat the bread spread with spinach/condiment substance. Although not overly crowded, for some reason service was a bit slow between courses which is okay if you're not trying to head back to work on a lunch schedule. I would definitely return there as food is great. And, manager was smart enough to come over to apologize for delay in serving one dessert but not the other. You'll totally enjoy yourself and the food!"

"I went to Max Brenner for the 1st time for lunch during restaurant week. The food was good, but nothing exceptional. And the atmosphere has a bit of a Disney feel to it.
I might go again to sit at the front bar, but Boston has lots of authentic places with great food, so who knows."

"Have been here many times, am a big fan, but on this last visit, I was extremely disappointed by the service. Our server was abrupt & rude. Had an out of town friend, so I took some time to explain the menu to her, &the server was impatient every time she came by to check in.
Ordered the classic fondue, which came w/the wrong chocolate. I pointed this out politely, & she fixed it, but with no apology & a bad attitude. While we were STILL EATING (as in toasting marshmallows and chatting), she asked us if we were done and she could clear. We said no, still working on it, but it was offputting to be rushed.
I really like Max Brenner. But I was frankly shocked by the poor service, and would reconsider bringing people here in the future"

"We celebrated my 9 yr old son's birthday and it was a great time! The hot chocolate is to DIE for! As were the onion rings. We enjoyed the food, but the desserts were out of this world. You must try a shake once; my daughter thought that it was amazing."

"The main course wasn't all it was cracked up to be when it was shown on Phantom Gourmet. My burger was cold, there was not enough bbq sauce on it and my waffle fries wasn't dusted with cocoa like it was advertised on the menu. The dessert was awesome. And the view (cute waiters) wasn't bad either."

"Dinner Food was fair but overpriced and kids' meal portions were on the small side. Desserts were a big disappointment!! VERY loud classic rock music played constantly.
Stale tasting cookies and brownie chunks, inedible cookie frappe, tasteless and dry cake. Lots if hype on desserts but poor flavor and quality. Everything was overpriced. i would not return or recommend to others."
