In the tradition of Italy's trattorias, the sight, sounds and aromas of authentic Italian cuisine are recreated fresh everyday at Il Fornaio Seattle. Literally "the baker" in Italian, Il Fornaio offers wood-fired rotisserie and grilled meats, poultry and game; housemade and imported pastas; pizzas from an apple wood burning oven; fresh salads and housemade soups; antipasti and a wide variety of desserts made daily from scratch. Voted as Seattle Magazine's 2006 Reader's Choice for "Best
Italian" and repeat recipient of Wine Spectator's "Award of Excellence," this award-winning restaurant is located in downtown Seattle at Sixth and Pine.
"I'VE BEEN A CUSTOMER OF IL FURNAIO SINCE IT OPENED IN SEATTLE. I'M NOT THERE AS MUCH SINCE I RETIRED BUT IT'S THE SPOT MY FRIENDS AND I MEET WHEN WE HAVE AN "OCCASION" LIKE WE DID YESTERDAY. A FRIEND FROM ARIZONA WAS IN TOWN AND THEY ALL WANTED TO GO TO IL FURNAIO. WE LOVE IT!"

"Don't let the location throw you. Much better than you'd expect from a restaurant in a downtown mall. Great place to eat when you're heading to the movies or a show downtown."

"Il Fornaio is always a special experience for my wife and me. The service is attentive but unobtrusive. The staff is friendly without being familiar and are always enthusiastic about doing what they can to make their guests comfortable. The atmosphere strikes a soothing balance between elegance and familiar comfort. All their food is wonderful, and, appropriately to their name, the bread is consistently superb. The wine list is extensive enough to find something for every palate and the bar is knowledgeable and talented. I would like to add some caveat, but I honestly have no complaints about Il Fornaio. An elegant dinner for two for under $100 and a welcome respite from everyday dining. Il Fornaio even now offers gluten-free pasta."

"Perfect trifecta. Salad greens were limp and bitter. Wine by the glass was from a bottle that had been opened at least 2 days (reminder to self: only order wines by the glass that are popular--at least they won't be too old before served). Barilotti, whole wheat, was so over-cooked that it was falling apart. While this might be good in a meat, it's a disaster for pasta. Service was mediocre. Okay, that's four, not three. Quattrifecta?"

"This is a solid Italian restaurant for tourists and for a restaurant attached to a mall. The food was pretty good and worth going to but definitely not super authentic nor really exciting."

"My colleagues and i all had seafood dishes and they were quite good. Halibut season had just arrived, and the Alaskan halibut was delicious and perfectly cooked. When I arrived at the restaurant and found that it was located inside a chopping mall (albeit on the periphery), I was wary, but the food was enjoyable."

"The food is definitely not as good as it was years ago. The salad I ordered - which used to be a favorite of mine - was incredibly bland and boring. Certainly not worth the price paid. This is a restaurant that I used to eat in twice a week - and now I have had my last meal there."

"The food was simply outstanding. I took a lady there for a date and we both had a wonderful time. The server was very professional and took great care of us. I am a server at Sand Point Country Club and pay special attention to people in the service industry. I am pleased to say I was more than impressed. I wish for the life of me I could remember our server's name. My reservation was on April 7 at 7:30pm. So whoever the lady was, she did an excellent job. Also, the last time I was there I was impressed with the gentleman who showed us the desserts. He was very genuine and knowledgable and it left a great impression. In fact, he was the reason I decided to take my date there. Every employee we came in contact with was excellent. Thanks!!!!!"

"We both opted to try the special 3-course menu for $29.99. The waiter explained that the first 2 courses (appetizer and pasta) would be smaller but the main course would be regular size (fine by us). Before the appetizer arrived we enjoyed a generous basket of bread along with an oil and vinegar plate for dipping. Between us we had the fava/artichoke soup, bread with a trio of toppings, stuffed ravioli, linguini with seafood and, for the main course, the boar. Everything was delicious -- especially the soup and the boar which was cooked in a tasty sauce and was very tender. It was served with gnocchi and broccolini (the latter was a bit salty for our taste). We go to Il Fornaio whenever we visit Seattle from B.C. and always enjoy it."

"The experience we had at Il Fornaio was outstanding. Our waitperson, Jax, was extremely knowledgeable, and an absolute gem when making selection recommendations - even clarifying how certain dishes we were interested in were prepared. She would also make pairing recommendations, and did an excellent job doing so.
The majority of our selections were off the current Toscano menu, and were fresh, decidedly different, and were delicious.
Without question, we will return."

"My family and I we often eat at il Fornaio. We are originally from North of Italy, near Venice, therefor, we really appreciate and enjoy our cousine. Il Fornaio have amazing Chefs, they really know their busness. Often my brother and I enjoy a weekend lunch, and then some shopping in Downtown Seattle, we are all thrilled to have such a classic, stylish restaurant in the city."

"For a restaurant attached to a mall I didn't have extremely high expectations but we were pleasantly surprised. We had a great waitress - very prompt and friendly. We were eating with our 3 1/2 year old daughter and we ate quite early. I had beef carpaccio, which was excellent, and pasta bolognese, which was good. My wife had one of the specials and a starter salad and she enjoyed both. Overall we had a great experience and would definitely go back the next time we are in Seattle."

"Ambience and service were very good, especially for something off an indoor mall although coming on this off the street, we had expected something a bit nicer. The food was fairly mediocre, some sub-Olive Garden."

"I made a Last minute reservation via I-Phone with some special instructions. Although when we arrive the restaurant was busy, they gave us special treatment, seating us at a wonderful window table. As usual, the service was great, food wonderful and they got us out in time to go to the theatre!"

"We have been eating here regularly since it opened years ago. In addition to the main menu, its regionale menu changes every month, as a guest chef features the food of his/her home region. This month was Calabria: the items we tasted Casaricce e Badolatu (Calabrian tuna and lovely savories with pasta) and 'Novoltinu e Pisce Spata (incredibly moist, skewered swordfish with a light filling) were among the most memorable Italian dishes we have ever had."

"The Calabria menu is wonderful. We particularly enjoyed the flavorful bruschette on cucumbers, the spinach ravioli with delicate mushrooms, and the swordfish rolls. The wines were superb as well. I love the Festa Regionale concept."

"Worst cannelloni I've ever had, Caesar was bland, and a $14 glass of red wine that tasted like it was turning. Waitperson was on autopilot and a little edgy.
And I'm generally pretty easy to please."

"My wife and I went to Il Fornaio for my birthday, on a Monday night. The was a special promotion going to Calabrian cuisine, basically allowing you to sample a variety of spicy Italian dishes and wines. My wife had that, but went for the Seafood Linguine. All I can say is we both were very happy with our choices. My dish was cooked perfectly, and was just spicy enough to give it a little flair, but not at all overly so. Our server was excellent, actually, all the staff that we interacted with were great. The service was just at the right speed...time enough to relax and chat, but not so much that you start wondering when dinner is coming. Also, because it was my birthday, our server brought us a free Tiramisu dessert that was fabulous!"

"Went for a lunch with my boss's wife to meet and get to know each other. We were seated at a lovely table by the window. Both of us had trouble deciding on what to order because it all looked so good. I had the butternut squash ravioli and it was perfect. So good. The waiter was attentive and we enjoyed the atmosphere and the whole experience very much."

"M;y wife and I celebrated our 34th Valentine's Day at Il Fornaio this year. The waitress took care of our every need and was very attentive. The restaurant was a bit noisy, but so are most Italian restaurants that we've been to. The food was well prepared and very, very good. My only complaint is that I had the veal scallopini and I guess I was expecting larger portions. But, none the less, it was very good. The desserts were excellent. We will definitely come back."
