"Chef Carl continues to demonstrate why he was nominated in the James Beard competition after only two years open! The quality of the ingredients and the preparation remain at the highest level. The servers are veterans and take their responsibilities seriously and cheerfully greet customers for a memorable experience. All in all, Story continues to be the finest dining experience in the Greater Kansas City area."

"I've never written a review on opentable, but I felt compelled to write one about Story. After moving to KC from Napa Valley, we've struggled to find a restaurant here that consistently lives up to our expectations regarding quality of food, and has a wine list with choices other than the "usual suspects". Story is by far the best place in KC we've tried so far (and we've tried a lot including the big names). I'd mention what specific dishes I'd recommend, but everything we got (7 dishes to share) was incredible so I don't think you can go wrong. The food is inventive, flavorful, and executed perfectly. Both times our servers were awesome. We will definitely be back- hopefully often- this place kills it."

"My dinner at Story was fabulous. I had the beet salad -- perfect little apple dice on roasted beets and smoked walleye and then rock fish on a lovely sauce with morel mushrooms and shrimp. My waiter was Matt -- he offered great recommendations and service was great. Thank you for a great meal."

"Story is a special occasion restaurant for people who like well presented beautiful food. Food presentation & service are good. Atmosphere is nice you almost forget you are in a strip mall. I enjoy beautifully presented food, but more importantly I enjoy good tasting nutritious food. Our food was well prepared, good flavor, however it tries too hard to be innovative & left me wanting something, pumpkin. I ordered my dish in part since it was described as resting on pumpkin puree. I did not expect a lot of pumpkin, but I expected to taste pumpkin. I expected at lest 2-3 spoons full of creamy pumpkin puree. What I got was a thin drizzle on orange liquid on my plate that did not have enough pumpkin to offer flavor or nutrition."

"Wonderful weather and an emailed reminder that the bar menu was happy-hour half-price on the patio equaled a spur-of-the-moment decision to reserve a spot at Story. Well, it iS one of our favorite restaurants anyway, and it WAS our wedding anniversary, so why not? The weather WAS perfect and the spinach salad and the spare ribs 'n' gnocchi plenty tasty, and say, don't those soft-shell crabs look good, and tempting desserts, too . . . with "Happy Anniversary" in chocolate on my wife's plate. All-in-all, a super night. Good service by Adam and company.
Wines at Story run expensive . . . not as many reds under $45 or $50 as I'd prefer . . . but the $64 Pinot Noir was good."

"Story is our overall favorite restaurant for many reasons. The food, ambiance and service are consistently great. We love the Sunday specials but also have many favorites from the menu. The lamb, short ribs, any fish and the risotto are all wonderful to name a few. The desserts are excellent."

"We've been to Story numerous times. This time we headed there for a quick dinner before going to a party later in the evening. I was hoping to get in while the soft shell crab was still on the menu and we were in luck. Cooked perfectly without too much seasoning and a nice sauce...it was wonderful. And, since we we had plans for the evening, our server was super quick (and very friendly) and we were in and out in about 45 minutes. I typically like to linger and have dessert, etc. but it's nice to know we can go there even when we're a bit short on time."

"Second time back only because friends said how good it was. Service was very poor. Empty food plates sat on table for over 20 minutes after we finished then it took another 5-10 to get the desert menus. Then it took at least 10 minutes for the waitress to take the order and over 10 to get the food. I had the halibut and it was good but very salty. The food was good not great but better than the first time we ate there. Don't think we will rush back even though the location is great."

"We regularly frequent Story for lunch and took the opportunity to change it up and go for dinner. That's not likely to happen again quite frankly. Our server, when we were lucky enough to have him drop by was lacking terribly. After specifically asking for hot soup we received it luke warm. Trying to get cracked pepper was almost impossible so we waved down another waiter. A wait of 66 minutes after the soup for our entrees was unacceptable and at no time did our waiter check back to see if our meal was good or not. The food was exceptional - as usual. Chelsea and Stacy are the BEST and when we go back we will insist on being served in their sections. A disappointing visit that is normally SO good."

"I took my parents to Story for their 40th Wedding Anniversary. Everyone was so great and accomodating to me and my family. They helped make this occasion extra special. The food and service were excellent. Our waitress took very good care of our needs. My mom and I had the fish, we both agreed it was delicious. The presentation of the food was very artistic and beautiful. I would highly recommend Story for any occasion."

"Homemade pasta noodles make the difference between a mediocre and a fantastic resaurant.We had Easter brunch off the menu. It was quiet and so calming as opposed to the buffet lines filled with dead food and hordes of people.The 2 eggs with linguini and 2 soft eggs, a side order of hash brown, homemade desert donuts all yummo with superb presentation. Overall,it was terrific. I can't wait to try it for dinner."

"This was my first time at Story. I had the smoked duck empanadas. The crispy poached eggs were amazing. I didn't know it was possible to batter and deep fry poached eggs and have them still be soft and gooey! Next time, I'll try the Walleye or have a drink on the patio at happy hour."

"I was extremely satisfied with Story. I had eaten here once before and I was blown away. It makes complete sense why the Chef was a James Beard Semi-finalist.
