Reservations are not required. Contact us for large parties or special events. Feel free to contact us regarding our seating policy. Yes, we do serve brunch/lunch on Sunday with a great prix fixe including French Toast, Steak and Eggs, Eggs Benedict and bottomless bloody Marys, mimosas and screwdrivers. During the evenings, Medium Rare offers a unique, prix fixe dinning experience of artisan bread; a mixed green salad; prime, dry-aged steak; and hand-cut fries in a relaxed, fun, neighborhood environment. As we do only one thing, we do our best to make the food and experience exceptional and also a good value. There are only a few wine, spirits, and draft beer choices, but each were selected specifically to accompany your meal. We offer an off-the-menu vegetarian option. Please contact us to inquire.

"Our family celebrated our son's Georgetown Law graduation there. Great place to grab a bottle of the bubbly, relax, laugh, and ...oh....the food is GREAT! And it keeps coming! Love that they split the plates to keep everything nice and hot!"

"The concept of this place is simple. No menu choices, just one dinner option - bread, salad, and two servings of steak & fries. And you know what? It was good. The one criticism I have is that they really try to churn you through. We were not halfway through our first serving of steak when they came over and tried to refill our plates, which we turned down. They came over several times to ask if we were ok and if we were ready for our next serving. We were just trying to have a leisurely dinner - really felt like we were being pushed through. Note that there wasn't a wait for tables, so this must just be their typical MO. That said, great price for a really good meal. I'll definitely be back."

"We went on mothers day and the staff very accommodating. Even though it was a pre-fix menu they brought an extra fruit salad with more grapes (which our little one loves). They were prompt with service and made our time very enjoyable."

"Loved the simplicity of the menu, loved the food, loved the ambiance. The only thing I did not love was the late 90s/early 2000s rock/rap music and the man sitting very close to my table, literally yelling at his companion. "My brunch experience on Sunday, April 21st was terrible. While it took over an hour to get our food (which was not right) my main complaint was the service. Our waiter came by the table to drop off water, did not come back to take our order for another 20 minutes and then honestly never came back again. When we complained to the Manager she attempted to blame it on the kitchen although I am not sure how that affected if my table got a refill of coffee and water. Overall the manager was less then understanding and at one point was gossiping about our compliant of lack of service to another table.
The food here is great. However for 23 dollars a person there are 100 options in the city that will service good food and not ignore you."

"I was so excited to try this place but it ended up being a little lackluster. The ambiance and concept are good. I went for brunch. I ordered the bottomless mimosas and had only three. I had to ask for two of them. Our server never came around for refills. The serving of steak was pretty pathetic. I'm guessing we were both only given about three ounces of very thinly sliced steak. This is pretty misleading when you go to the website and see massive pictures of big chunks of steak. Overall, I'll give it one more try but I'm pretty skeptical."

"We went to Medium Rare knowing that we would be getting "one size fits all" dinner. Actually, our waiter was rather accommodating, serving both the salad dressing and the steak sauce on the side as we requested.
The salad and bread were quite fine. The steak seemed to be tenderized for almost as long as the restaurant has been open. But my real complaint with Medium Rare was the total rush atmosphere. I think that I have spent more time "enjoying" a McDonald's meal. We were in and out of Medium Rare in less than an hour. When I get out to the street I almost wanted to meditate just to slow down. I won't be returning. Dinner is meant to be fun and relaxing, not just filling."

"I was looking for a moderately priced new place to meet an old friend for dinner, and as much as I love steak, it is not something I make at home in my apartment. I really enjoyed the steak, it was tender and tasty. The bread was fantastic, crusty and chewy. Salad was good. The specialty cocktail I had was fair and not worth $10, and the Key lime pie was okay. If you stick to the fixed menu and don't order cocktails and dessert, this is an excellent value.
But overall, I would definitely recommend this place and would go again if in DC."

"We've been here before and were disappointed this time. The salad was kind of limp-- not really crisp. The worst thing was the way they come around and offer you more steak and fries. I had to ask for more, whereas in the past a waiter roamed and offered it to you. Much worse was the fact that unlike in the past you are now limited to 1 refill and nowhere on the menu or anywhere else do they tell you that you are limited to 1 refill. So the way I found out was when I asked for a bit more the waiter basically said "Sure, but I have to charge you for another dinner (another $20)." So I had to look cheap or wrong in front of my guest. Very awkward! I did not appreciate the restaurant openly putting me in awkward, embarrassing situation."

"Medium Rare was, well, medium. I had eaten at L'Relais de l'Entrecote in Paris, which Medium Rare is based on, and had an amazing meal there. So I was excited to try Medium Rare -- with it's single menu: Salad, steak and frites. The salad was fine -- nothing special, but good. The steak was not good -- I ordered mine medium well, and it came medium rare. The sauce, which in France is so amazing you want to drink it by itself, was yucky and I scraped it off. The "frites" were you basic fries -- not the crispy, flat frites you get in France. The room is noisy and not very charming, while in Paris you have white table cloths and fresh flowers on every table. It was ok but disappointing after what I expected. Sorry."

"Always a fantastic and filling meal. Simple, straightforward, and to the point. This place does salad and steak frites (two portions!!). Who doesn't like steak frites??? If you don't like that, don't even come close to the place...it's not for you."

"Thought this place would be slower, calmer, more relaxed, but that is not the vibe, despite the cave-like lighting. music is loud 70's rock. you have multiple waiters running past your table putting things on your plate and anxiously checking on you, one got us a dessert menu but never came back while another brought us the wrong check. i think its good for groups who don't mind paying a lot if they get alcohol. We saw a couple office or grad student groups there. love the prix fixe single item idea, but thought the quality was disappointing for the price. Greens lacked flavor and were soggy, steak was good but you really want it to be a show stopper, since thats all you've got. we were there on a tues night, wasn't crowded."

"This restaurant takes me back to a little brasserie in Paris. You get more than what you pay for at this $20/person gem. The warm bread on a cold day is amazing, the salad is pretty standard, but the steak and frites in their "special sauce" is better than many other locations in town. Don't despair on the portion once its served as like many brasseries, they hold 1/2 in reserve so that your plate isn't overloaded. They should change their name in my opinion to Well Done!"

"The service was good and the server was very attentive. I particularly enjoyed the salad and the bloody mary. The meal was well balanced so I have recommended this place to some friends and family. They have been very curious about Medium Rare."

"This restaurant is unique in that it offers one prix fixe menu and that is IT! lol Sounds overly simple and boring.. but it's anything but. The serving comes in two parts, two helpings if you will. At the end you WILL leave satisfied. Since they are so minimalist in their menu it gives them a chance to really be good at that one thing... mission accomplished. As far as ambience is concerned... outstanding. Not once did I feel like I was too close to other tables, or that I couldn't hear myself think. Our waiter that night was very subpar. She was dismissive when asked about the idea behind the concept and laughed it off. The manager was more accommodating and attentive. Highly recommend to try at least once! but you'll want to come twice."

"I was pleasantly surprised by this naighborhood attraction with the very limited menu. The service was superb. The bread ws divine. the salad very tasty, but aaah the steak! Culotte or skirt steak, cut thin, cooked to order and a heavenly sauce to mop it up with. Who could ask for more? I'll be back"
