5 Napkin Burger is an upscale restaurant devoted to the art of the hamburger. The signature is 10 oz of fresh ground chuck topped with rosemary aioli, caramelized onions and melted gruyere on a soft white roll. The full burger lineup includes the all-American Bacon Cheddar, Italian Turkey, Avocado Ranch, Mushroom Bleu, Veggie, Lamb, Tuna, Inside Out, even a Burger Salad. While the burgers may be the headliners, the diverse menu of expertly prepared American classics entice foodies to come back nightly. 5 Napkin is the rare burger restaurant where vegetarians and carnivores are equally at home. Additional temptations include expertly prepared sushi maki rolls, Matzo Ball Soup, Steak Frites and Fish & Chips. The 5 Napkin beverage programs showcases a global selection of 60 wines and 80 beers, 10 signature cocktails, 40 bourbons and a host of decadent milk shakes and floats – all a perfect complement to the cuisine.
"My husband had the burger with a fried egg, and couldn't stop raving about it. The brunch cocktail selection was great, our friends loved the Tecate Michelada and I had a prosecco drink. Everyone was impressed with the food and the service. I'd like to come back and sit outside, so we are planning our next visit already."

"The food overall was good but the wait staff were horrible. It wasn't crowded but the waiter was inattentive and distracted. It took 20 mins to get a beverage. When I order my burger it came out well done on the outside and rare in the middle. The waiter argued with me and told me that's what I asked for ... He did return it to the kitchen. I enjoyed the burger but wouldn't go back bc of the service. send it back to the kitchen initially"

"We were made to feel very welcome and comfortable at once. Delicious food, served promptly, and with nice presentation. Our server was wonderful; she had a great personality! When we asked for reccommendations, she was very helpful and really KNOWS the menu. (We loved the s'mores shake she suggested.)Would absolutely return!"

"Tried 5 Napkin burger on my birthday. My wife's bacon burger arrived with undercooked bacon which had to be removed. Yes, it could have been sent back for more cooking but then the burger would be cold and the bun soggy. My veggie burger was OK but mostly tasteless. I have had better. Seated in booth which was so far away from the table, I was leaning into the table the entire time. Service was friendly and efficient."

"I often bring visiting friends and family here... works like a charm: fun, energetic and delicious, and not just a burger joint. The guacamole and chips appetizer was awesome! Also appreciate that reservations are quickly seated. This visit was on Patriots Day weekend Saturday with all the marathoners in town, and the staff kept up with what appeared to be an onslaught of guests. Well done!"

"They do have a very Good Burger, other items (fries, salads and such just ok). I found it very expensive for what it is. Figure around $15 for a burger... apps and beers also very pricey. Burgers are good, not WOW! I realize it's the Back Bay, but still too high for what it is. In this spot the only thing that's WOW is the total on the check."

"This is a classic case of a nice restaurant with good food that delivered poor service.
The hostess was great, very accommodating with our reservations and friendly upon arrival. The food is tasty and it deserves its reputation. But the service is less than desirable.
We put in appetizers early (and even held off ordering). Our appetizers took 30 minutes to arrive and one minute later, our main meal arrived. There were a number of mistakes in our orders and our server was rude and impatient.
I recommend the restaurant, just don't be suprised if your server diminishes your experience."

"The food tasted good, but maybe slightly overpriced for burger lovers. I thought the fried pickles with sauerkraut was tasty...but I think I liked the one in New York better. The portions were definitely bigger in New York too! My friend thought that her patty was slightly dry."

"Have eaten here before - burgers are really good and you DO need lots of napkins - also love the fries. The servers are friendly and energetic. The kids can always find something here!! If you want a good burger - this is the place"

"We were happy with our experience with 5 Napkin Burger. The server was friendly and efficient. Pickles were outstanding as was the avocado and tomato salad. Only disappointment was that they did not have squeeze mustard and that my burger came a bit more rare than I would have liked, I ordered Medium Well and it came more medium light."

"It's an EXPENSIVE burger joint. But, the service isn't even up to that level. We've been many times, and the food and service weren't up to snuff. We left quite disappointed."

"Brunch menu was tempting but we just had to try the burgers since it was our first visit. The Avocado Ranch a & Original 5N burgers were great (also quite large). A very nice thing about 5N is you can susbstitute a side salad for french fries. The service was fabulous -friendly, fast & professional. The menu had a lot of different things to offer-you could go with a large group and everyone would be happy."

"I really like 5 Napkin Burger, however, I ordered the fish and chips and I was not impressed. But I tasted everyone else's food in the group and thier choices were delicious."

"Our lunch at 5 Napkin Burger was ok. Nothing special; just another burger joint. The food was good, but not enough of a draw to make a special trip into the city. If I was in the neighborhood I'd come back and try something else on the menu. The quality of the food was good, but the meals didn't seem to meet the expectation of the restaurant's name. But I do recall the onion rings being very good."

"Ordered the salads not the burgers, so this may be unfair, but the salads had wilted greens and uninspired dressing. Very unmemorable from a food standpoint."

"Burgers are not that good. Why we ordered a sushi plate for apps at a burger was a stretch, so we give you credit for trying, but really?! Sushi rice has a mixture of ingredients in it. 5N just boiled white rice. It was utterly tasteless except for the soy we had to dunk it in. We had three different burgers, all cooked just as ordered. However, again no seasoning in 'house made every day' guacamole, blue cheese not sharp enough to cut against bacon, and burgers are big so cheese should be noticeable, not barely there. Burger salad was decent and not overly dressed. The best thing about 5N was their chicken sandwhich w crispy bacon and hot sauce. Finally, some flavor."

"How a burger joint that boasts a great beer collection can not only fail to have Guinness on tap but not even have it in cans is a disgrace. The bottled "Nitrogen Milk Stout" they offered in its place (sans widget) was a lame substitute for the real thing.
The waitress was very defensive. "We pride ourselves in serving only craft beers." Like, say, Bud Light?
"If you want Guinness there are many other places that serve it on tap."
OK. Goodbye."

"We arrived early in the dinner hour so our table was available immediately. My wife and I settled in while waiting for 10 minutes for our friends during which we ordered an appetizer. This was our first experience at a 5 Napkin Burger but we had checked the menu online so knew what to expect. Initially, I thought the music was a bit loud, but I forgot about it as we got into conversation. The food is very good, and the service was fine. Prices are moderate for an in-town restaurant."

"Our first time at 5 Napkin, although our daughter had been there before and liked it fine. Just for fun, I read some Yelp reviews, many of which were negative, claiming slow/indifferent service and not so great food. Well, WE liked it and would go back again. Yes, the burgers are pricy, but also honkin' huge 10oz. My wife and I shared one, no problem. Suggest you get yours rare, as we did. Nice and juicy, and cooked to order. Very nice onion rings, done in a crunchy cornmeal batter. First I've had that style, but it was good and the onions inside were thick cut and sweet. Our waiter, Adam, was more attentive to our needs than waiters at other, more expensive eateries we've tried in Boston. Gave him a nice tip. College crowd+other ages, too."

"This restaurant was just very average in my eyes. The burger was good, but not worthy of being the focus of any menu. Asked the server for a beer recommendation and he ordered us a beer that was $18 per bottle without ever mentioning the price. Still would have ordered it, but came across as a tad sneaky. Felt like we were being rushed and up-sold throughout the meal. Not something that would prevent me from going back, but I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to return either. If you're in the area and in the mood for a burger, it's not a terrible option, but certainly not worth driving to."
