Amber Dhara (meaning "sky" and "earth", respectively) is the brand new concept from Vijay Bist. Here, his long time dream of opening an Indian restaurant in downtown Palo Alto come true. The vision for this restaurant is to create seasonal, regional, sustainable, and unique menus paired with an extensive wine and cocktail list with friendly service. Chef Vittal researched and compiled a contemporary menu which has fresh look while using the traditional recipes; the age are followed to the core using layers of spices with nouvelle cooking techniques.
"I am not exaggerating when I say that Amber Palo Alto restaurant is the worst! I have never been treated more terribly by staff and management. I would give them ZERO stars if possible. Our waitress was terrible and kept forgetting dishes. She also added extra items to the bill and argued with us when we tried to correct the bill. They tried to add gratuity onto a party of 5 even though it did not say that anywhere on the menu and they added the gratuity onto the tax.The manager was argumentative and unhelpful when we tried to fix the bill and then tried to make us stay at the restaurant while the owner headed over. We finally left cash on the table just to close out our bill. I will NEVER go to Amber again. Go anywhere else!"

"We were looking forward to an enjoyable dinner at this new restaurant. We were seated promptly, our order was taken, and the slightly cold beer arrived. Hungry, we waited and waited for our appetizers, which finally arrived after 20 minutes. The waitress was apologetic and blamed the new expediter. Waiting for the main dishes, we decided to leave and asked the waitress for our check. She refused and had the young manager come over. He blamed the delay on so many guests being seated at the same time. He prevailed upon us to stay and eat the main courses, which were just arriving. The manager and waitress disappeared, leaving us with no eating utensils. We left $25 at the table and walked out. The manager tried to stop us."

"the food is very good. The hyderabadi biryani was superb. The Bombay fish Masala was a bit spicy. The service was good. Downtown paloalto parking is scarce so add extra time to find parking."

"Can only give 1 star because after reviewing the menu, we had to leave. Three of the four people in our group are vegitarians, and the menu (surprisingly) only had 1 veggie option. The menu shown online did NOT match the menu we were given at Amber Dhara. I'm sure the food is great, but the veggie chooses are VERY limited during lunch time."

"Our waiter was polite, but he only looked at my friend every time he asked questions (like if we liked the food), while completely ignoring me!! That struck me as unpleasant even rude. Also, waiters kept interrupting our conversation, when we were clearly still working on our food left on the table. That was quite annoying. But the food and the atmosphere were good enough to have an overall satisfying experience at Amber Dhara."
