The Black Sheep Restaurant At The Kendall Hotel Reviews List
The Black Sheep Restaurant At The Kendall Hotel
Situated in the lobby of the historic Kendall Hotel, the Black Sheep Restaurant is dedicated to the building’s past as a Victorian firehouse and to fine dining in Cambridge, Mass. The firefighters of Engine 7 considered themselves the “black sheep” of the Cambridge Fire Department, and the Kendall honors their memory with our restaurant. The menu offers daily selections created by our chef using organic and locally grown produce. Our cozy dining room creates a welcoming atmosphere, with a menu offering both classic and innovative American home-style cooking. Our philosophy is simple: purchase the finest and freshest ingredients and let the food absorb them. We offer a full bar and specialize in a selection of locally brewed beers and selected wines from wineries around the United States.
"We love the history of this building. We were given a gift certificate and stayed at the historic Kendall Hotel last year and enjoyed our time there. This time we returned to the Black Sheep Restaurant with the balance of the gift certificate and to enjoy dinner. My husband ordered the Baked Cod entree and I ordered the Kendall end chicken entree - both were delicious. We paired our entrees with Cabernet Sauvignon and our waiter suggested with enjoy a piece of Boston cream pie (which we split and was just the right ending to our dining experience. We will definitely return to the Kendall Hotel and Black Sheep Restaurant in the future."

Review 2 for The Black Sheep Restaurant At The Kendall Hotel
"We decided last-minute we wanted to go out to eat on a Saturday night and The Black Sheep had an opening at the time we needed. When you read it's the restaurant attached to the Kendall Hotel, it's really more like a dining area. It's right off the lobby and is very small, with a limited menu. The food was mediocre, the service middling. And if you're going to bring your kids here, you should request that their meals be brought out first--for both entrees and desserts, the waiter brought the adult food out first and then went back for my kid's plate. And while patience is a wonderful thing to instill in a child, not at a restaurant when they're really hungry."

Review 3 for The Black Sheep Restaurant At The Kendall Hotel
"It could use some more bread choices for sandwiches: it's sliced wheat or white, period. Maybe there was a wrap alternative. How about a ciabatta? The chips seemed home made and were very good, and the sandwiches themselves tasty. The only hamburger seemed to be a veggie burger. Still, I really have no complaint. It was fine for lunch, and sitting outside was pleasant despite the noise of buses on Main Street."

Review 4 for The Black Sheep Restaurant At The Kendall Hotel
"I enjoy the Black Sheep for its central location in Kendall Square and the food is consistently very good. The patio is nice for being outdoors, but pretty noisy with Main Street just across the sidewalk. Service was fine."

"We had a great meal at The Black Sheep. The Cambridge Burger is excellent, as was the Fire House Taco Salad. There was a good selection of wine and beer."

Review 8 for The Black Sheep Restaurant At The Kendall Hotel
"The service was very good, as always. The ambience is nice and cozy; it's a small space that always feels homey, whether full of patrons or not. Only complaint is that of the two filet mignons, ordered medium rare, one was served medium. Likely just a fluke, as both our steaks were cooked alongside each other :)"

Review 9 for The Black Sheep Restaurant At The Kendall Hotel
"Went for lunch with a friend. Even before we were seated and given water, we were asked multiple times if we were ready to order. The entire experience felt rushed. Once we received our food, we were asked if there would be anything else. Food is tasty and creative but, service is lacking."

Review 10 for The Black Sheep Restaurant At The Kendall Hotel
"I was eager to try this intriguing place tucked into the Kendall Hotel ... an old firehouse. I went on a Friday night w/ my husband and returned the next week with my girlfriends. I highly recommend the Kale/Rice/Beans dish ... and the grilled veggies w/ hummus appetizer. The cocktails are good as are the wines. All reasonbly priced. The room is cozy and the service is warm and efficient and patient. It's a great find!"

Review 12 for The Black Sheep Restaurant At The Kendall Hotel
"Great place for fire engine lovers of all ages. The food was excellent and the menu offered a full range of selections, from full, elegant entrees to lighter fare. The restaurant is quite small, so we were invited to wait for our table in a comfy area which was conducive to chatting. All in all, a most pleasurable evening."

"The food was excellent. Very small, limited number of tables as it is in the lobby of the Kendall Hotel. I would recommend to most, though I would suggest making a reservation as there are a very limited number of tables."

Review 18 for The Black Sheep Restaurant At The Kendall Hotel
"3rd time for us at the Black Sheep, packed crowd, we got the last table at 7pm. Enjoyed the tasty filet mignon. We also had the chicken penne, nice dish, wish it was more filling though: kind of small plate for an entree.
Ordered prosecco by the glass, and had the lava cake. Can't wait to return again soon!"

Review 20 for The Black Sheep Restaurant At The Kendall Hotel
"Read the reviews &I thought it would be great for a group if six (3 kids). While they do have a kids menu this place is quite small &I truly geard for adults & parties of 2-4. Menu was limited. The food they offered was good, however nothing was memorable. Not a place i would return back to"

Review 21 for The Black Sheep Restaurant At The Kendall Hotel
"We enjoyed our dinner very much. The seafood and pasta tasted great. Location is cozy and fun. There were just a few tables filled, but the noise and chat from the kitchen were a noticeable disruption to us. I can understand the close quarters, but the conversations we had to hear from the kitchen through the one single door was unfortunate. I'm sure that at busier times you can't hear it... I imagine it would be hard for a kitchen staff to realize this and mitigate it. We still will return though. :)"

"We loved our first time at the Black Sheep last night. Beverly and Parker were great servers, and the penne pasta was amazing. Also had the goat cheese salad, very creative tart. We look forward to being back soon! The old Firehouse building made for a fun walkthru after our meal :)"

"Little quiet lunch spot great for a relaxed lunch in the middle of hectic Kendall Square. Also great to have a glass of wine and talk in the quiet lobby, although I've never stayed for dinner"

Review 28 for The Black Sheep Restaurant At The Kendall Hotel
"This restaurant is a neat place! Situated right in the lobby/reception of a boutique hotel, one might think it is noisy and crammed, but this is not the case - the very location makes the restaurant interesting and dynamic. The waitstaff is great, atmosphere is energizing, and the food is tasty and diverse. The latter helped as we were a group of 6 people from 13 - 46 in age, all having different tastes in food. The Black Sheep was a great selection for us for a Saturday night dinner."

"surprisingly small spot inside the lobby of the Hotel. Our food was very good and value priced. The service was uneven.....took awhile to get our check at the conclusion of the meal. They certainly didn't rush you through the meal!!"

Review 30 for The Black Sheep Restaurant At The Kendall Hotel
"We had a large group, so we were put in a private room in the back (the normal part of the restaurant is very small). This turned out to be a great spot for us that night, since we had a couple of young kids who were running around after a long day in the car. They have a small menu, and the food is pretty good. The cocktails were well made. Since we were a little bit removed from the rest of the restaurant, we waited a bit long sometimes. The restaurant and hotel are in an old fire station, so there is decor according to that theme. Food wasn't something I would rush back for, but we had a pleasant experience, overall."

"First ate here in 2006 and I fell in love with the Cobb Salad. Had a business lunch there last week and it was still delightful. I also had the soup of the day which was amazing.
Perfect for outdoor dining in the summer."

Review 36 for The Black Sheep Restaurant At The Kendall Hotel
"Went for a full four-course meal, calamari to start, kale salad, filet mignon, and cheesecake to finish. Everything was perfect. Calamari and the salsa that comes with it was great. The kale salad was a nice surprise. Wasn't originally going to go for it, didn't want to deal with large pieces of kale, but the whole salad is chopped up very fine and the lemon vinaigrette was excellent. Stead was done perfectly to order and the mashed potatoes were awesome. Cheesecake is a pretty standard thing, and it didn't disappoint. The mango sauce drizzled on it was a great addition."

"The hotel looks lovely. The restaurant is tucked into a corner of the lobby. When we arrived, there were very few people there. But, once the restaurant was full, it was very noisy. The food was good, although not fabulous."

Review 38 for The Black Sheep Restaurant At The Kendall Hotel
"The service was superb, though our courses came out a bit faster than we would have liked. The food was very well prepared. Our two sources of disappointment were that the menu was so limited and traditional, and that the space was so small that a few loud parties overwhelmed the ambiance."
