"I have dined at 43 North upwards of 5 times, and continue to go back. The service is outstanding, the food is to die for, and there is always something new and unique on the menu.
I'm a huge fan of their farm-to-table philosophy, and their regularly changing menu. I bring every out-of-town guest here, and will continue to do so.
This is by far my favorite restaurant in Madison."

"As you walk in and sit down the place is hip and has a nice laid back, clean vibe. The wait staff is great. Our drinks and apps were super so we were excited for our dinner. However, dinner left us disappointed. While everything was cooked perfectly, fish and meat was excellently cooked, the flavors were somewhat bland for all 3 meals (pork, salmon and halibut). We never add salt to our meals and we didn't here as usual but we all wondered if that would help....which left us to decide that there wasn't enough flavor if we thought it needed salt. We were sad to have been disappointed cause like I said the place was cool and the staff really nice. We may go back for happy hour and just have drinks and apps but will likely skip dinner."

"My husband and I have been to 43 North several times and are never disappointed. We split the baguette/butter/jam bar snack, as well as a lobster bisque and salad. Timing for the appetizers was spot-on and the lobster bisque was especially delicious (as usual). My husband had the scallops while I had the salmon which were both appropriately portioned, flavorful, and outstanding. The service was attentive without being overly pushy or leaving us with empty drinks (which is my largest pet peeve at restaurants). We have no complaints about our experience and would highly recommend 43 North to anyone who wants a lovely evening out with a modern twist."

"We were seated at a table in the front, very good. Our waitress was polite but seemed confused all evening. They were not busy but the food did not come out in a timely manner. Our appetizers were very good. The main courses were mixed. After a loooooong wait, our main courses arrived. My husbands risotto arrived cold and flavorless. They did offer to replace it. We chose not to wait for another dinner. He shared mine. W would not go again."

"Twice, I've been here with friends when we really needed to catch up and the experience could not have been better. The food was excellent, drinks perfect, but the service and atmosphere made it a slam dunk. It's hip, without being a place that plays music so loud you have to shout. It is my favorite new place to go with friends, for a romantic night, or even for a business dinner when important convos have to happen. Love this place. Don't miss it!"

"I went to 43 North this week for my Mom's birthday with my mom and my husband. The drinks were delicious, the food was exquisite and reasonably priced for its high caliber. We were also impressed with the cocktails, they were innovative and delicious. Our waitress was perfect - she was friendly, helpful, available and not at all intrusive.
We were over-indulgent, ordering a cocktail each (3), 3 appetizers, 4 small entrees, a sample of three desserts and we each had a high end scotch at the end of the meal and our bill came out around $150. I would highly recommend this place before going anywhere else overpriced for a special occasion.
Everything was was amazing - but I would highly recommend the cheese stuffed dates, and the duck."

"Our dinner was outstanding. The food was really excellent - every dish felt like it had been prepared with care, the flavors were amazing, and the presentation was beautiful. Service was also extremely informative, but also discrete - perfect for a more intimate "date night." We actually couldn't understand why the place wasn't packed to the brim - it was a really lovely experience, for a thoroughly reasonable price. I gather it's a relatively new restaurant, so perhaps it's just a "best kept secret" kind of place for now - but if they keep up the good work, it shouldn't remain that way long."

"The food here is amazing. Everything I've tried on the menu has been fantastic, although I find it hard to stray from my favorites. The dates appetizer, the lobster bisque, and the game hen entree are to die for. Very small location, get's rather noisy when busy, but the bar is always a good option if you can't get a seat right away. Love this place."

"The service tends to be very slow and the waitress was rude but every other aspect of 43 north was amazing! We loved everything we ordered. We also love the option to do small plates and try more things. Go between 5pm-7pm on week nights to get 30%!"

"I recently ate at 43 North to celebrate a graduation from UW-Madison. The special three course menu offered something for everyone, including my picky 15 year-old son. The Green Goddess salad wss fresh and the dressing was delicious, and I nibbled on some of the roasted dates which were also to die for. I had the barramundi as my main course which was cooked in a pillow of parchment paper and it was light and tasty. They also had several vegetarian options which all looked tasty. I would definitely recommend this to a friend, great for special occasions."

"I understand: it's a busy time. But we were hoping for a special experience with our daughter and 43 North didn't deliver. We had to order from the special graduation menu and we were disappointed. The tenderloin steak was a tiny little thing. My fish in parchment was dry, and the red potatoes were way undercooked."

"We were a group of 6, we paid like $75 per couple, we all had wine/beer, three course meal + desert. For main courses they have two sizes, the large size is not super large, the small is just decent... Food quality was excellent, service was good (nothing superb, but good, no complaints).
The restaurant was half empty, but with a moderate ambient, which is what we were looking for. We had a good time!"

"We love the fact that 43 North offers salads and entrees in two sizes. The small salads are surprisingly generous, larger than many side salads in other restaurants. The small entrees are perfectly sized for someone who doesn't want to overindulge and doesn't want to take home part of the entree. Actually, the food is so good that I think it would be difficult resist the temptation of eating most of the larger entree portion -- even if you thought you were going to bring part of it home!
This past weekend we tried the Ratatouille, listed with Bar Food, and it was quite wonderful."

"As one might come to expect from the Muramoto line of restaurants, this dining experience is second to none in Madison. The Muramoto fleet is and has been bringing foodies in Madison the dining experience that you'd expect to find in large cities without the big city prices. Every moment of the experience is done so well that you'll likely have lasting memories from 43 North. Duck and Scallops are best in Madison and I'm really picky about both. Halibut and Salmon dishes had flavor palettes that even Bob Ross would never mistake for happy accidents.
Also, we sat down and ordered before 6pm on a Saturday which meant that we received 30% of EVERYTHING—that's right, their happy hour includes entrées too!
Don't hesitate, you'll love it!"

"I'm sorry to say, but 43 north needs a lot of work. Nice atmosphere, nice people but poor food and experience. Braised beef was so salty as to be in edible. Steak? Eh. Beet salad was good, and the "soil" was an odd but interesting addition to the top of it. Halibut was only ok...was served over a safe but uninspired cucumber broth. All I all, odd melange of an experience, and we're unlikely to return."

"Food was excellent. Great presentation and service. The lobster bisque, duck confit and halibut were special. Very noisy. Only downside was the Wagyu beef. Not the kobe beef marbling that I expected. Well prepared, but not seared at 1200 F. like a Chicago steakhouse would, or seasoned. I have had better cuts from Jennifer Street Market.
Overall, the kitchen staff truly cares about the food. It showed."

"Not satisfied with this place at all! Took my wife here for our anniversary dinner. The seating isn't set up for much privacy. It took over 10 minutes for us to receive our drinks and it seemed odd that our waitress couldn't even bring them. This isn't that big of a place nor was it overly busy for her to need help. Then when the appetizers came we weren't sure what one was, mainly because the waitress forgot to bring the bread with it, and we asked how to eat it and she replied "with a fork.". No kidding! How about some further explanation to what it was! Then, another question about the other plate and she told us to read the menu! It went downhill even more from there but there's not enough room here to keep going!"

"43 North has a very exciting menu, which I was pleased to see offered the items on each course listing in both small, sharable plates as well as full-sized. The wine list is compact yet interesting that very affordable. The waiter was very knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly. All in all, a great experience!"

"My friend and I had a great dinner experience at 43 North on a Wednesday evening. The food was beautifully presented and service was excellent. Our favorite bar snack was the Goat Cheese Stuffed Dates. We also enjoyed black and green olives cooked in herb oil and a fresh warm baguette with compound butter and house jam. I enjoyed the Beet Curry Soup very much, and my friend had a very tasty Grilled Caesar Salad that she shared with me ~ it was so good! We loved that all of their items can be ordered as a small plate or large plate. Prices were incredibly reasonable because we dined during happy hour. Love that they serve local Wisconsin cheeses. Will remember this place for next time."

"Fusion/nouvelle cuisine at a nice price - made especially accessible by small plate options for entrees & salads. It is a tight squeeze in a small space - mostly a single, long row of close-set tables. So not as much intimate as lively once the dining crowd arrives. Also, being Madison, diners may dress from flannel to suits.
The main part of the dishes were lovely, but what really impressed were the accoutrements: a subtle cucumber broth that lingered in memory days later or an artichoke barigoule that teased and satisfied at the same time. Fusion often reads better than it tastes. This sounded good and tasted better."

"We loved sitting in the back where they had tables enclosed in a smaller room. The ambiance was great and we felt like we were having a quiet dinner. The server was very attentive and had great recommendations for wine and dishes. (The duck was outstanding!) You can order smaller versions of the dishes or the full size. There were four of us and we ordered 4 full size dishes to share. After dinner we had the dessert sampler which was out of this world! I would highly recommend not skipping dessert!"

"My husband and I have eaten at 43 North several times and have always had an amazing experience. It is by far my husband's favorite restaurant, as it is the only place he will ever order a steak and have it cooked to his liking (not overdone). The only thing with our experience this time was that my salmon was slightly overcooked and I believe our waitress may have been newer and just not as attentive and professional as most other wait staff we have experienced here. Overall, it was nothing that necessarily took away from the experience, but it has always been perfect when eating here so just something to note. As always, I would recommend the lobster bisque and my husband's wagyu steak was superb. We will be back in the near future."

"Our experience was overall good, but we weren't greeted very warmly or professionally. In fact, the person who greeted us at the door took our name and after a long moment of staring at the computer, he just pointed to our table without much conversation. We walked there ourselves. The server was very friendly and we really enjoyed her. She was quite busy so we got our first course before we got our drinks, but I know she was doing the best she can. The food was pretty good, I should say. The wine list was a bit limited if you're a wine afficianado (as I am). Just don't go to 43 North expecting to find an outstanding wine, it won't happen. But they did have affordable wines that complimented the food and that was most important."

"Nice little place, dark and romantic or at least low key if not romantic, with creative menu; especially truly appreciated the fact you can have small and regular size entrees which is something that Madison restaurants really need to figure out. Definitely a place for couples and for smaller group of friends. Don't know how long it will last but the 30% early meal deal was pretty great too."

"We (four of us) were the first diners in the place on a Friday night and were seated at a choice window table. Our server + trainee were very attentive and knowledgeable (a prior visit had a server with no info about the menu..) The lobster bisque is a must - we ended up sharing a bowl. The braised beef, wagyu beef, and scallops were all exceptional. Although we didn't infest it this night, the little zinc-topped bar is a fave of mine... ...All told, recommended - we'll be back."
