"My birthday (a special one) was the day after Mother's Day. The server was very nice but came over and told us that while they usually had specials, they had none due to the restaurant being crowded the night before. She said that next time we come back, they will have wonderful specials for us to try. I then went to order an appetizer and was told at 7:30 they had no gnocchi. That was my favorite food. Additionally, the cheese we wanted to order was unavailable. For each of these, we were told that they ran out of many things the night before and just were not able to get things back in time to have them ready. It is very disappointing to go to a restaurant and be limited. Next time, we will go somewhere that plans for every day."

"Bread was to die for--it comes from their bakery, Theo's. We went for lunch. Steak frites was cooked perfectly. Mushroom soup was close to cold, and I like soup simmering, close to tongue endangering. One of my pet peeves is no S&P on the table, but I must admit the food was well-seasoned."

"We had a group of six for dinner. None of us had eaten here before. We got there early and it was very pleasant. The waiter was very knowledgeable, but we did feel that we were being rushed. The diners started coming in and the restaurant was very crowded. It became so loud that we could not talk to each other. Even the waiter was having trouble communicating to us.
We were definitely rushed with dishes being picked up as soon as we finished, etc. The good thing is the food was excellent. But the sound (decible level was over 100) is just too annoying. We would recommend Bistro for the food with a warning about the sound level."

"This is a go-to restaurant in Roswell that clients and visitors will always enjoy. The menu is online, and the dishes often display some surprising creativity without being frightening. There are no foams or liquid nitrogen, just high-quality ingredients served with some tasteful flair. The bar is comfortable and welcoming, the decor simple and pleasant, and the service knowledgeable, helpful, and unpretentious. Diners tend to dress just one more notch to the casual than in Buckhead.
I often ask for and follow the server's suggestions, and have never been sorry. Management does a great job in selection and training, and has them sample the dishes so they speak from recent experience.
This restaurant is always a solid choice."

"We have visited VG on a number of occasions, dating back to when it was Van Gogh's. This time was Saturday night before Mother's Day and the place was very busy. Nevertheless, our reservation secured a table with no waiting and the food was excellent. Service was a bit slow, but our server and all others were working hard to compensate for the jam in the kitchen.
I had the 'Vinny's' Lasagna; my wife had the Red Snapper Special. We enjoyed both and can recommend highly. VG, Viny's and the other Sedgwick restaurants all have excellent bread -- definitely a feature of the place. And the proseco is reasonably priced as an aperitif."

"Salty crab cakes, gaspacho with fishy old tasting crab, calamary that was calasoggy, 4 people, only a bunch of apps- 160 for food- cocktails were another 70- (fair for what we drank) - we hd driven by this place fo years and finally got curious - Thre is NO value at all- we told the server that the crab in the soup was funky- ( no apology, no let me tell th le chef- arrggh) then the cran cake came ao salty that 1/2 was left with 4 splitting it? Again said - hey this is saty - nada - anyhow be warnd"

"We had a reservation and were sat at our table immediately with zero wait. The waiter did a nice job initially presenting the specials and offered guidance and recommendations for wine and dishes. My wife and I wanted some flexibility and were happily accommodated (we ordered the mussels, an entrée, and wanted to split it as an appetizer.) We found the food to be very tasty and fresh. The service was excellent, a very pleasant atmosphere. A good place for a date in Roswell and convenient. The easy on-site parking is small plus here when compared to some of the other places in Downtown Roswell."

"I did not check the "romantic" icon because the new decor is rather stark. It is an older building. I found the exposed painted walls somewhat bland rather than enhancing the ambiance. My test of a restaurant is the duck. The breast was done very well, the leg tasted like it had been refrigerated for a week. My companion loved her entree. At some point, we may return."

"This is a great place to take Nana for her birthday, assuming that Nana doesn't like wine. VG is a case of too little local competition and poor management. IMO, Bistro VG would not survive in a more competitive market, but in the hinterlands, well it's a captive audience, especially when you cater to the crowd eating at Furr's Cafeteria during the week.
There isn't room for me to talk about the slow service, too few menus (so we had to share), lack of freshness to menu or the poor wine list filled with a bunch of stuff that was released in the past couple of months. The biggest issue? VG charges $25 for every bottle of wine you want to open. Doesn't matter if you order another bottle, cocktails, etc. No dispensation. Just $25."

"We patronized this restaurant for years when it was Van Gogh's, before they changed the concept. It was very dark and masculine then, but very rich in decor. The new "VG Bistro" is lovely. It is all light creamy white, so it seems larger, yet still has intimate nooks. The food is different, but as good as always and the service is superior. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience, in this case for Easter brunch."

"We had dinner here for our anniversary. We were glad to see that our favorite waiter was still there and he guided us through the menu. The food was fabulous and served piping hot. "Disappointing overall. The restaurant is a nice space, very open and airy. The wait staff are quite attentive and very polite. However, the food was undercooked and overly rich. As is too often the case with modern restaurants large portions seemed to be the order of the day, rather than high quality. It's possible that the kitchen was overworked, seeing as this was Easter brunch, but I'm not sure I would take the risk and give it another chance. The Brioche French Toast was so moist it barely seemed to have been properly cooked; a question to the wait staff brought reassurance that this was how the dish was meant to be served. Perhaps my family just doesn't like semi raw food. Other dishes ordered were described as "bland"."

"The food at VJ Bistro ranged from good to mediocre. Cheese plate and appetizers were both good. The sea scallops were also very nice. Other dishes, such as their duck breast did not live up to our expectations. The food was prepared adequately, but nothing was exceptional. All in all, the food simply does not justify the prices charged. Service was good up until dessert, which took over ten minutes to get served. The waitress was simply MIA during this time. The manager finally took notice and got things in process for us. We had a large party and found out after the fact that they had attempted to decline the reservation. They did not mention it on arrival and were able to accomodate our party, but it may have influenced the service."

"Dined at VG again after not being there for several years. Still a "stand alone" in the N. Suburbs of ATL. Food is stellar. We tried the cheese and meats groupings as an appetizer with the table of four we were with. Very high quality, "European" in presentation with the board served upon, etc.. Halibut and Salmon were both delicious for entree. Sugared beignets with dipping sauces for dessert were decadent. I don't write many reviews unless the overall experience is worth the time and energy to log on and say something. VG Bistro (used to be called Van Goghs) is worth the drive, the wait, the price."

"I absolutely love the decor of this restaurant, a very clean, white linen french country flair with fabulous artwork. The food is excellent and there are many selections from small plates, soups and pizzas to steak, poultry and seafood. I recommend the Gnocchi with cremini mushrooms from the small pate sections and of course the white truffle parmesan fries. The lasagna is one of the bests I've ever had, but I only recommend it if you want a hearty dinner. For a more light faire, try whatever their fish special is. It's always cooked to perfection. I've also had excellent service everytime I've been. Their wine list is an excellent combination of French, Sanoma and Napa selections."

"It's a shame that such a nice place has such disappointing food. Chicken livers were tasteless, duck breast had a strange taste (the duck leg that came with it was tasty) and the side dish - some lentils and spinach were bland too. The beer was warm! the waiter apologized for "technical issues" with the cooler, but offered no solutions..."

My lamb shank was so big I could not finish. It had just enough fat to make it tender and flavorful.
