Chop South Edmonton - Ellerslie Rd is located on Ellerslie Road, just a few minutes south from South Edmonton Common and Southgate Shopping centre. Chop is attached to the upscale Sandman Signature Hotel, just off of Calgary Trail.
TODAY'S STEAKHOUSE. At Chop we bring together all the elements that discerning guests love about wine and food and combine them with energy, style and value. For the steak lover, Chop steaks are aged a minimum of 28 days and cooked in a specially designed oven that cooks at 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit for incredible flavor. If your preference is seafood, we have a fantastic selection of fish dishes complimented with sensational sauces and sides.
Fresh baked Winnipeg rye bread and delightful desserts, like our signature Fallen Chocolate Souffle Cake, are created by our baker daily. Our extensive wine list is assembled by sommelier Kim Spence and has something for every palate, ranging from elegant white wines to fruit forward reds.

"Waited a little late to book a mothers day brunch. Found that the Chop house was taking reservations and decide to book for 11:45AM. We arrived a few minutes early. We were seated immediately. We were give a private room so it was extremely quite. The server was very friendly, explained everything on the menu and made some recomendations (Eggs Benedict). The food selection for brunch was limited but since this was the Chop House's first time doing this, no big deal. It did not take long for our food to arrive. It seemed that the portions were small but after eating, were were not hungry. The good thing about this brunch was that you were not left hungry but you were not stuffed either. Overall, it was a great experience. Will go again."

"Had Mothers' Day early dinner. At first, the young lady that seated us said we could only order from brunch menu. When my husband made reservation, he specified that we would not like the brunch. But,, when our server arrived, he said there would be no problem... so was probably just a communication oops.... We had excellent service, the food was just wonderful, the young man that served us was very attentive. Thank you for a great experience."

"Was expecting a Mother's day brunch buffet, but it was a la carte. Even so, on Nother's day you would expect there to be some kind of accomodation for children, nope. On top of that, the food service was slow, and food was average to below average. On the bright side, our server was awesome; he was friendly, and attentive."

"Outstanding Chop! This is our 3rd meal here, and we invited another couple for dinner with us. We were all impressed with our meals, flavors were well balanced. Portion size was just right. I would say the wine pricing is average for Edmonton. Our waiter was friendly and helpful, his timing was impeccable."

"Or server Shaun did a fantastic job. Food came out very promptly and cooked how was requested. A bit on the pricy side for what was ordered, but still tasty and enjoyable.
Only disappointing part was actually partially out of the control of the restaurant. Bad parents letting there kids run in and out from the patio (was sitting beside the door to patio.) Kids running around and yelling was quite obnoxious for an anniversary dinner."

"We had an excellent dinner! The food was great and the service was AMAZING! Our waiter was very familiar with the menu and was able to make great suggestions both with the food and the drinks! It was our 4th time here and yet again, another great choice for our date night! The only downfall was that after making reservations, we got stuck in a booth closest to the kitchen entrance and between the glasses getting broken and the staff chatting and the regular restuaraunt commotion, it was so incrededibly noisy that I think next time, if that is the only option for seating, I would rather go elsewhere so that we can actually hear each other speak."

"Please hire a real chef! We visited CHOP on a Tuesday night to celebrate my wifes birthday. Our first impression was fabulous. The parking lot was full as were the restaurant and bar. The staff were courteous and efficient. The cocktails and presentation was great That's were it STOPPED. The food quality was not what I expected. The Fillet Mignon was tender but relatively flavorless other than the heavy use of granular steak spice. The french onion soup was full bodied and savory however the burnt cheese left harsh burnt toast flavors. The loaded baked potatoe was modest in proportion with limited condiments The vegetables were barely recognizable. The red pepper was good but the green beans? were nasty."

"This was my second time to this Chop location, and the second time in a row in which service was very poor. Upon arrival, like last time, my table was not ready despite having booked on-line through Open Table. Our reservation was for 7:45 p.m., and yet it was 8:05 p.m. before we were seated.
Upon getting seated, we waited another 7 minutes before a server came to us and took a drink order. What was surprising was that we asked our server how many tables she was responsible for and it was only 3.
Service issues aside, our appetizer and main courses were excellent. We'll give this place one more chance in a few weeks, and if its a repeat of poor service it'll be our last."

When we arrived at the restaurant there seemed to be a little confusion as to our reservation but we were seated. The flowers I ordered never did arrive. The waiter did not take any time at all to greet us even though the restaurant was not that busy. I found him to be quite impersonal. We waited for more than 20 minutes to get our before dinner drinks, with just an "sorry the bar is busy". When we got home I received an email which said we were considered a no show for our reservation so I am sure this is why the flowers didn't show up. Next year we will go back to the KEG."

"Normally, our experience at the chop house on the SS is great. However, we went there this past weekend (April 1), and the food was not that good. We were a part of five and we all had steaks, and ALL of them were overcooked. We ordered anywhere from rare, med-rare to med. In a couple of cases the people didn't even finish their steaks! I'm not sure what happeneded because like I said, we've always had a great experience with the steaks there, but after this, I can honestly say, I will not return."

"I came to Chop to celebrate my 44th Birthday with my husband and another couple, we really had a great time the food was delicious. Our waiter Stephan was excellent and knowledgeable about the menu, when he asked why we were there my friend said to celebrate my birthday. After our meal Stephan brought a card over that had been signed by all the wait staff and my dessert was paid for - a lovely treat! We will definitely be returning.

"We went to Chop South Edmonton on Good Friday. We waited to be seated for about 10 minutes while 3 young ladies tried to figure where to sit one man who didn't want to eat in the lounge. We were then shown to our table. We waited 20 minutes before I flagged a server down and asked when our server would be around to take drink orders. A few minutes later an apologetic young lady showed blaming management for changing her section and was then trying to rush us so I had to say several times that we were not in a hurry. The food was great - would definitely go back for that aspect of the restaurant. Realized our server did not tell us all the specials, only the drink of the day, after hearing a server attending to the table beside us."

"The food and service here is consistently very good. The wine list has a good variety of choices, and many of them can be purchased by the glass, half liter, or full bottle. Most of the seating is booths, so if you want a stand-alone table you should specify that when you make your reservation. There is also a separate enclosed room for larger parties of 12 - 20 people."

"Very good! We had to wait a couple minutes for our table, but we ended up having a private room for the four of us which was great. Our waiter was amazing and provided lots of his favourites, all of which I tried and was very happy with, my steak was well done instead of medium. The waiter automatically asked if I wanted a new steak and in the end the manager took care of our deserts instead. Great experience overall.
Try the steak bites as an appetizer they are amazing."

"Had a 5:30 reservation to celebrate a special occasion, showed up 5 minutes early. Were seated promptly. It was not busy, so we were looking forward to not having to wait forever for our food. Hostess informed us our server would be with us shortly... waited 25 minutes and still no one came to even ask what we wanted to drink (not even water was poured for us) so we walked out. Staff at front seemed shocked when we told them why we were leaving. We didn't come to a fancy restaurant to have to hunt down someone to help us. We won't be going back."

"The setting was warm and comfortable,however felt the lighting was a bit too dim. The steak bites were very tender and delicious. Top sirloin steak was good, however a bit too much seasoning ie.pepper on the top of the steak. Service was great and suggestions made to the table from the waitress were very good. Drinks were good and affordable. White wine sangria was very refreshing as the waitress had stated. Overall good dining experience."

"This restaurant is not fit for groups of more than four. Never sit at table #30. We had to pass food and drink to all those seated at the inside of the small booth. They forgot our appetizers and brought out our main course first. They did take them back and promise to remake them. When we had to pass meals down we had to use trays and napkins because the plates were screaming hot. This is usually because they've sat under the heat lamps for too long. My drink was empty for a 1/2 hour and the waiter failed to recognize a new patron when he joined our table. Not so sure that we will be back."

"Our party of five enjoyed excellent and attentive (but not over the top) service with delicious food from the appetizer platter to the entrees. The platter was a wonderful choice for five, from steak bites (too delicious for words)to chicken wings, cheese toast and shrimp cocktail it was a hit. The entrees were very tasty, generously portioned but again, not tooooo much on the plate. The only so-so entee was the lobster stuffed haddock that my daughter said was slightly overcooked and not the tastiest dinner that she has had at Chop. Desserts were lovely. All in all, a very nice dinner and yes, we'll be back!"
