Kellari Taverna
Kellari Taverna is located in the heart of New York City, three blocks from Grand Central Station, Times Square and the Theater District. The dining room decor evokes a subterranean wine cellar designed with contemporary elegance. Kellari features the traditional Greek taverna specialties, such as grilled whole fish, prime chops and meats, and an eclectic selection of contemporary Hellenic savory appetizers ("mezedes") created by our Corporate Executive Chef, Gregory Zapantis. Our menu also features a variety of Greek cheeses, baked or flamed 'Saganaki' style, as well as a selection of Raw and Marinated seafood. The Kellari dessert menu includes innovative specialties such mastiha pudding and warm sokolata with halva ice cream as as well as traditional favorites such as Baklava and Galaktoboureko. Kellari Taverna offers an extensive international wine list featuring the largest selection of Greek wines available in any U.S. restaurant. About 24 wines are available by-the-glass.

"This was my first time at Kellari's. I was there to celebrate my birthday and afterwards see a show. The Service was exceptional as well as the well plated and delicious food. My friend and I were very impressed. I would definitely recommend Kellari's, and you can be sure I will return.

"Kellari Taverna is an excellent place to go for a quick, but classy pre-theatre meal. Seafood is excellent and servers skilled. Pre Fixe menu is difficult to beat for value and options, which are classic upscale (not diner) Greek done well. All done with efficiency and professionalism--they will get you to the performance with time to spare."

"Kellari's was recommended to us from the staff at the Algonquin Hotel where we were staying. It was an easy stroll down the street, allowing us the opportunity to take a walk after dinner.
Enjoyed everything the restuarant had to offer, ambiance, great food, attentive but not obtrusive waitstaff. We highly reccommend the Arctic Char.

"We went on a Sat. nite and didn't wait more than 5 minutes for our table. We were offered a table that was a little cramped, and the hostess asked if we minded, I said yes, she said one minute and found us another table. So far so good. I had the price-fix menu, for 2 courses it was $31.95 and for 3 courses maybe $36.95? Don't hold me to the prices. I had a greek salad which was very good and a fairly large . I also had the mediterrean fish that came with a veg. It was very good. My husband wanted a shrimp cocktail and the same fish. He paid more for his dinner and would get the price fix next time. We both had dessert, he had sorbet, which was a nice amount and very refreshing. I had a custard something that was great. Highly recommend."

"I've been to Kellari 3 times and had a good experience so decided to take my husband for a pre-theatre dinner. Upon arrival I told hostess we had theatre tickets. She said it would be a 10 minute wait even though we had reservations. We were seated in the front wedged between two other tables for walk-ins. Another 10 minutes passed before waiter came over. I advised that we had theatre tickets and needed to leave by 7:30ish. He took our orders, brought us drinks and we did not see him again for the next 25 minutes. Food came at 7:25 - the time we were to leave. No apologies, no adjustments to bill, no manager interaction, nothing! We had the pre fixe menu but had no time for desert. Food was great, service experience was the worst!!"

"I wish I could recommend this restaurant based on the food alone. But service was terrible, and for a restaurant that offered a pre-theater menu, it was unusually slow. There was also no lobster available, or so we were told by our waiter, which I found odd for a place specializing in seafood for a Saturday night. It was also very loud, and our party of three had trouble hearing ourselves."

"Kellari Taverna on 44th b/ 5th & 6th in NYC is a regular choice for me. The Greek dishes are outstanding, and the service is attentive. This probably was my 15th time there, and I've always had a great meal, whether for lunch or dinner. Such a broad choice of fresh fish and other things! I suppose I should just stop counting, as I intend to continue to dine at Kellari on a regular basis when in NYC."

"Having eaten in many Greek restaurants here & in Greece, I highly recommend Kellari Taverna. My lamb chops were amazing & the galactobuereko was sublime. The ambiance was wonderful. While the restaurant was filled on a Sat. night, the noise level was such that we could hear ourselves talk normally.
There was a shift change during our meal & that did disrupt the dessert service, but nothing terrible.

"Inconsistent.Went 1st time 2 weeks ago (Fri.)and couldn't wait to return. It was like 2 different restaurants. We ordered the same dishes but the taste and portions were different. The waiter of 4 months was not knowledgeable about the wine paring. The hostess was annoyed we (2) wanted a table for 4 (it was 5pm & empty). We ordered a two course prix fix. The choices are good. I had the salmon tartare. The first sauce was more and far superior. Then I had a whole (fileted w/o head and tail) mediterranian bass. Skin not as crispy as first time. My husband started with watercress salad. Best watercress I've ever seen. Smaller portion. Then had black cod. Looked unappetizing and poorly plated. Not as tasty as 1st time."

"An outstanding restaurant to go before the theater . Located close to 5th Avenue on West 46th Street , it is a little outside the theater core of restaurants but it is well worth the inexpensive cab ride or five minute walk . Make sure you go when they offer the Price Fix lunch on Sundays [ $ 24.95 ] and it includes drink , 2 courses and dessert . I had the Salmon and it was great . Two thumbs up for this wonderful restaurant."

"We had a 7:30 pm weeknight reservation and hit the 'work crowd'. It was one of the noisiest restaurants we have ever been in. The Washington sister restaurant is much better fro noise level. We thoroughly enjoyed the food although my entree came cold and had to be returned. The waiter was attentive and very nice. We would love to return but would have to figure out what time the noise level would be tolerable"

"Service was way off and this was a business luncheon. We had to flag down our waitress and then keep asking her "what?" as you couldn't hear her over the noise; and she mentioned she was speaking loudly. She asked if we were pressed for time because of the prep time for a dish, we said yes...I guess this was the green light to be slow on everything. We watched all tables around us get their apps well before us, and we were 1st ones in that area. We asked for more bread, we're still waiting. Dessert (ice cream!) took forever, one person ordered greek coffee. American coffee was brought out. To not waste time, he drank it, then the greek coffee came out. Even the check took a while to get. Let's hope it's ok next time."

"We had requested a quiet table, and they were unable to give us one because the tables that were in a quieter spot were "reserved". The food was delicious, but the service was not very good. We had trouble getting the waiter's attention more than once. This is a large, noisy and beautiful restaurant with good food. The indifferent service disappointed us. We were there pre-theater on a Saturday night, so it's possible that service is more attentive at less busy times."
