Chef/owner Scott Fredel is a favorite local chef (and fishing captain too!) who opened this gourmet American bistro in the heart of Aventura. Pilar presents a variety of dishes using locally sourced and sustainable ingredients whenever possible.Pilar’s menu offers a wide range of exciting choices delivered daily like local mahi-mahi and yellowtail snapper to succulent scallops, salmon and Pilar's famous filet and burger all paired with unique, savory flavors. "The Southwestern corn chowder was loaded with potatoes and without any flavor. The service was good except that we asked the waitress if the soup was spicy, and she told us no, except it was a little spicy, too spicy for my wife. The main courses were ok but not wonderful. We had the seafood linguine and the grilled scallops. Very pedestrian. A little disappointing. Maybe our expectations were too high."

"We have been here several times now and it is becoming a favorite. The quality of the food is excellent. Each entree is well seasoned and well prepared and paired with interesting sides which complement the flavor of the entree. We have each tried two different fish entrees. I had the yellowtail and it was marvelous - tasty, moist and with great texture. The filet mignon is way less expensive than the Palm and it was perfectly cooked - medium rare and the flavor was superb. It was as good as the Palm. The polenta as a side dish is a favorite of mine."

"Busy Saturday night we were seated promptly with great service. Mussel appetizer very good with fresh baked bread followed by nice gorgonzola salad. I got the salmon which was not very good. My date got the scallops that were good but a little heavy on the cream sauce. Overall, a very good experience and would return for a second try"

"We had a long layover at the airport and wanted to enjoy a nice dinner. The food was outstanding but the location was unexpected (strip mall). I had hoped for a more romantic atmosphere, but the quality and flavor of the appetizer, entrees, and desserts made up for the slightly disappointing ambiance."

"My wife and I have been to Pilar several times but never on a Saturday night "in season." It was very busy and, despite having a reservation, we were told we would have to wait at least 15 minutes for a table. We chose to sit in the bar area instead of waiting. The servers were very nice, but there were only two for the entire bar area, and they had other tables in the back. Additionally, the main courses arrived warm, not hot, and the food was not as good as usual. However, the salad was tasty and quite large, which was nice."

"The food was tasty. However, 3 of the 4 dishes were not very hot and had to be returned to warm up. Since I had ordered a steak medium, when it was reheated, it was well done. When I mentioned this to the server, her response was -- I will tell the chef for the future. Otherwise it was a good experience with good food if you are willing to wait to get it done right."

"We had an enjoyable time at the bar with drinks before dinner. Service was a little slow at the bar although they weren't crowded. We were shown to our table(for our reservation) on time. We had a wonderful dinner. Our waitress was wonderful. Fast, efficient and very friendly. We have eaten here before and will continue to do so."

"Having made my reservation on Open Table, my party of three arrived 5 minutes early for our designated reservation. Upon checking in with the host, I was advised that our table would be ready in a few minutes. Thereafter, we waited forty (40) minutes to be seated! This is totally unacceptable. I expect that if they accept a reservation, that they honor it, and seat us, within a reasonable time. Forty (40) minutes is NOT a reasonable time. This alone, is reason not to return."

"The staff did everything possible to make our evening out special. We were late for our reservation but they accommodated us and treated us like royalty. Our waiter was they nicest and most helpful person. The food was excellent, five star quality for a two star price."

"Food was innovative and excellent. Kitchen was very slow that night, a Sunday night, and we waited about 30 minutest between salad and entree. Staff kept apologizing, but something should have been done. Some people insisted on being comped. Ask for salt and pepper and waited about 10 minutes as server needed to find an extra set. Finally took it off the table of someone who had finished with it. Why not enough sets for all the tables in the establishment. Any easy and inexpensive details."
