Watershed restaurant, owned by Indigo Girls’ Emily Saliers, has received awards and rave reviews on both local and national levels for over eleven years. Watershed cooks with the freshest, organic, and locally grown ingredients often times delivered to our back door by the farmers themselves. We specialize in seasonal southern cooking with dishes like Creamy Stone Ground Shrimp Grits, Southern Table Salmon Croquettes, Fried Chicken, and Onion Braised Pork Shoulder with Whipped Rutabagas and Slow Simmered Cabbage. We prepare old fashioned, made from scratch desserts like our famous Very Good Chocolate Cake, and Georgia Pecan Tart with Shortbread Crust. Housed in a converted gas station, Watershed offers some of Atlanta’s finest dining and an extensive wine list in a casual, relaxed atmosphere and neighborhood setting.

"I only go to the Watershed for one thing and that is on Tuesday nites ONLY. The Fried Chicken is THE BEST in my opinion. So much so, that I will never eat another piece of fried chicken ever again unless its from the Watershed!!!! The pecan tart is a must have as well!!!! I have no idea what else is on their menu! :-)"

"This is our second time dining at Watershed, the first time my wife had the best looking and tasting vegetable I have ever seen. We went back specifically on Tuesday for the fried chicken that we've heard so much about and it did not disappoint. Easily the best fried chicken I have ever had, anywhere. I am not sure what they soaked it in but it was worth the effort to get to downtown Decatur in rush hour traffic. I can not wait to go back!"

"Watershed continues to have problems with very poor acoustics. It is so loud in there on a busy night, and we were there on Tuesday for fried chicken and they were filming a HGTV special, and it was very busy. Service was slow, but the food delicious and our waiter was very nice."

"The service was friendly, but super slow! We didn't get our food until about 45 minutes after being seated and served drinks! When it was served, it was cold but we were too hungry to send it back by that time."

"We were seated within 10 minutes of our reservation Saturday evening. The noise made it difficult to converse due to the crowd and a large party seated behind us. There appeared to be some quieter areas in the adjacent dining room. The waiter was helpful and very cheerful. Our shrimp grits appetizer was delicious. I had the pork chop with collard greens and mac&cheese. The chop was superb, not overseasoned, letting the meaty flavor com out. The greens were also great but I didn't care for the mac&cheese. My wife enjoyed the duck breast with figs & mashed carrots. The chocolate cake for dessert was just okay (a bit dry). Portions were very filling. All in all, it was a great meal, and we may very well try it again on our next visit."

"Scott Peacock rules! We always know we can count on a wonderful meal and a wonderful time. When our grown daughters are home to visit Watershed is the place they want to go. When we think of places to go with friends, Watershed's the place. When we plan a quiet evening together--well, where else? The fact that we live 100 miles from Atlanta doesn't discourage us. Service is always very good--attentive, unbothersome, good humored."

"Food is consistently good, even with Scott Peacock's departure. Interesting seasonal changes keep the menu fresh even with frequent visits. My sole objection to this place is the noise level, which is uncomfortably high when the restaurant is busy. I do not enjoy having to either yell to my dinner companion or sit in silence."

"It was our first time at Watershed and we had a wonderful meal. We LOVED the oysters and mussels. The pork chop was fantastic (especially the mac-n-cheese)! My husband had the lamb chop and it was excellent. Our waiter (Doug) was exceptional.. he patiently guided us through the entire wine list without being snooty or pretentious... which made us try wine we had never had before! We had a great time and will be back!"

"It is very obvious that Watershed has lost its chef. The food was just slightly above cafeteria grade. I have been there several times and definitely noticed a big drop in the quality of the food this time. The meatloaf I had tasted like it came from Publix. The salmon my date ordered was way too salty and tasted like it was out of a can. Our dining companions pushed their food around the plate as much as they could. While the food was mediocore at best, the prices were very high. All I can say is that I hope this once valuable addition to the Atlanta-area restaurant mix regains its footing, and flavor, soon."

"What a wonderful lunch - and the carrot cake is unbelievable. The cream cheese frosting wasn't super sweet, the cake was super moist and you could even get a hint of carrot - all rare in your standard carrot cake. Wow. The tomato soup continues to be the best anywhere (and I'm a tomato soup snob)and my lunch guest raved about the burger. The other raved about the tomato soup and his salad. All around a great way to celebrate a milestone birthday for my employees."

"We loved the vegatable plate for lunch, something we normally would not order but did. It turned out great. They have done a nice job with the "addaptive reuse" of the facility but it was an old gas station and that is hard to completely hide. The service was okay, but a little slow.

The price was good, we enjoyed ourselves and we would ceretainly go back."

"I've always enjoyed going to the Watershed, it's good, honest, clean your plate food. For the years that I've been coming, the food has never dissapointed. On my recent visit I was dissapointed in the service though. It took literally five minutes before anyone spoke to me and the restaurant wasn't even busy. Throughout the meal my server pretty much stayed in the kitchen. I don't need to be hovered over while I'm dining, but I do want some attentiveness. It just didn't seem very welcoming."

"Thank you for asking for some feedback about Watershed. I have eaten at this restaurant before; however, it is not always my first choice. My guest likes the restaurant. I find the temperature in the restaurant always chilly. It is not just me, as I always see other diners with their coats or jackets still on during their meal.

We had two glasses of tea. I had the vegetable plate and my guest had a sandwich, but no side dishes. I also had a cup of coffee. Without the tip, lunch was just over $31.00. Rather pricey for lunch, I think. But then, it never has been inexpensive to eat at this restaurant. I appreciate the philosophy of the restaurant to use local growers when possible."

"Tuesday night and the place is packed at 6pm? It must be Fried Chicken night and it was great!! We started with the butterbean hummus which is this huge platter of fresh vegatables, warm pita and to die for hummus. I had the beef stroganoff and my dinner companion had the fried chicken special. Our server, Marcus, was on top of everything and didn't even blink when we requested seperate bills. It was a little loud, but that was to be expected as crowded as it was. The only downside was the lights were turned down to low. It was very dark and the small candle on the table did nothing to help."

"We took a friend out to this restaurant for her Birthday dinner. We are not a group that typically dines in establishments known for their chef's expertise, so the prices seemed a little bit alarming at first. That didn't last long because we absolutely got everything we paid for and more - experience, service and amazing food. Our waiter was incredibly attentive without being intrusive, and the food couldn't have been better balanced and flavored. The portion sizes were perfect and the flavors incredible. We shared the hummus & crudite appetizer, enjoyed several glasses of wine, and I ordered the Salmon Croquettes entree which I highly recommend."

I had not been to Watershed in a few years and was pleased to see they are still on their game. Scott Peacock is an excellent chef that seems to capture the essence of the food he is serving. My dinner companion and I actually made comparisons to a recent meal at Gramercy Tavern - as the food is earthy and presented in a manner where less is more. "Great Valentine's Day treat for my wife (who just gave birth two weeks ago) and myself. I wanted to take her somewhere that was comfortable, but that let her know how special our first Valentine's as young parents was. Watershed succeeded in both. Cocktails, appetizers (grits; toast), entrees (lamb shank; fish special) and *especially* dessert (chocolate cake with some truly out-of-this world whipped cream) gave us a break from the diapers, etc we won't soon forget. "Wonderful. I have been wanting to go on Tuesdays forever to have their fried chicken. I was not disapointed. As an Atlanta native and raised on my mother's and grandmothers' fried chicken, it is part of my DNA. The mashed potatoes were very good, so were the collard greens. Also the food was hot - a very big deal to me.
Our only complaint would be that the biscuits were not warm enough to melt the butter.
We look forward to returning.
We also look forward to sharing Watershed with out of town friends for true southern good food."

"Loved it! Glad that we finally had the opportunity to dine there. Only disappointment was that our reservations was made for 8:15 (we arrived on time) and we were not seated until 8:45....We did enjoy a drink at the bar beforehand.....It was Valentine's Day, so I'm sure that the wait time was not helped by that."

"I just hate going out on Valentine's Day because of the crowds, the prix fixe menus, and the assembly line feeling of it all. That's definitely NOT the case at Watershed. Attentive service (lots of refilled water glasses), delicious favorites (loved the Grouper) with some new items on a regular menu. Oh yeah - great cocktail and wine list."

"Nice dining experience at this downtown Decatur, GA restaurant. Quiet but friendly atmosphere. Excellent waiter who brought the spirit of the restaurant to our table. We were out for a "girls night" and the waiter brought us little demi-cups of soup with our appetizer when he heard it was our first time there. Excellent, "down home" type food -- For example, my porkchop with collard greens and homemade mac and cheese was very good. We split a piece of "Sunday Night Cake" (yellow cake with a sugary, caramel icing) was OK, but not the best part of the meal, maybe because we were so full!"

"Perfect place for us to celebrate a Birthday over lunch. The food is consistently reliable for freshness and deliciousness. My choice was the Tuna Fish Salad sandwich full of fresh tuna, red onion, fresh greens, a perfect hard boiled egg in halves and heavenly Kalamata mayo on toast. Service is sufficiently attentive but not hovering. I also liked that they had only one "special." Oh--one more thing--I liked making reservations online, and everything went smoothly. WATERSHED is one place you can count on for a most pleasant dining experience."

"Some of the dishes were quite good--the grits and mac and cheese--but all were very much overpriced. The chicken dish my husband had was just OK. We received a sample of the carrot soup and it was the only thing we ate that was simply extraordinary. If I went back--which I probably won't--I would order just a large bowl of soup!"

"We went on Tuesday night and fried chicken was the feature. The fried chicken was lightly breaded and perfectly seasoned. The whipped potatoes were light as clouds. The green beans were perfectly cooked (not crunchy but not overcooked either) and seasoned. We had the apple cake with caramel glaze and it was delicious. Overall a great evening at Watershed."

"We went to Watershed on a Tuesday for their fried chicken special. It was incredible! Just like my Granddad used to make! You received a half of a chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans and 2 biscuits! Everything was delicicus and at a very good price ($19). If you want fried chicken, you have to go on a Tuesday and get there early, as we ordered the last 4 they had, and we were seated at 7:20."

"Room temperature food, some of which looked as if it had been cooked hours ago. Salad overpriced. Enough garlic to ward off vampires. Service adequate, but we had to ask for bread halfway through the meal. I won't go back. I fear that Chef Peacock may be resting on his laurels of having Martha Stewart praise him. BTW: I emailed my comments to the restaurant and never got a reply. Guess they don't need my business."

"This was the first time I've been to Watershed. I wasn't entirely sure it would be "fancy" enough for a birthday dinner for my partner, but it turned out to be perfect. The food was fantastic. The duck was cooked perfectly - crispy skin, salty meat, very savory and not the least bit gamey. The Lamb was also very good, but perhaps out-shadowed by the duck. The portions were ample and the sides were paired well with the entrees. The food was elegant with a heavy down-home southern feel. I found that the ambiance was exactly what I wanted - sophisticated food in a fun and upbeat environment - fancy enough to feel special but not the least bit stuffy or pretentious. I will definitely be going back."

"We arrived at our reservation time..but had to WAIT..about 20 more minutes..they were busy..but they served us some champagne for our time waiting. That was appreciated and kind. We are from Florida and were visiting our friends in Avondale Estates (NE OF Atlanta)and this was our way of thanking them for letting us stay with them for the 5 days. "Lovely luncheon at Watershed this past Saturday. It was relaxed, delicious and warm. Out waitress was very good...attentive, yet not annoyingly so. We both had the roasted pork sandwich which was heavenly. Just wish it came on a heartier whole grain bread instead of the sour dough or whatever it was. It was my first visit, so plan to go again and try some of the other yummy sounding menu items."

"Cute, fun, comfortable...what else is there? Service was top notch, great wine list and the prices are amazing if you know your Turley! Menu is simple covering all bases and the food is low-key and elegant. I had the fried chicken and like how it was fried in lard but had a light crust...not a heavy coated skin that so...metimes is more than the chicken parts put together, other half had the pork chop with greens...perfectly done and hit that comfort zone that a dish like that is supposed to do. Finished with the Sunday Cake for dessert, which was almost like a pound cake topped with caramel, along with a great port to help wash it down....ending a wonderful night. I can't wait to go back, seriously!"

"I ordered an entree (shrimp po-boy) and dessert (fresh apple cake. In both cases, the waitress came back and said they weren't available. She should have known what was available on the menu and advised us in advance. Even so, things on the menu should be available. If they change from day to day, use a chaulkboard or printed menu insert. Also dining room was very cold."

"We met friends there that had not been there. The food was great! Friends really liked it. The service was excellent....attentive but not overly so. Had a great Malbec wine.

"Nice and cute location in Decatur. The shrimp grits were delicious! The fried chicken dinner was good (mash potatoes and green beans delicious). Martini's were a bit overpriced at $10.00. "We arrived 20 minutes early for our 7pm reservations and were seated immediately. The waiter was friendly and had perfect timing (never asked if we needed anything mid-bite!) The house cocktails were a mixed bag--the Bourbon Apple cocktail was one I am certainly going to recreate at home, but the Autumn Fizz belonged on a brunch menu, not with dinner.
Food was perfectly prepared. The duck breast was cooked to a delightful medium, with a beautiful slightly spiced crust. Just the right amount of salt . The pork chops were huge and some of the best pig I've had in the entire south (yes, really!) Veggies were all spot on.
The "Very Good Chocolate Cake" is a perfectly apt description, and I would sell my firstborn for the Sunday Cake recipe."

"The pork chop, pork shoulder and red grouper entrees were all rated "excellent" by our group. Service was attentive without intruding on our group's time together. Comfortable seating capacity meant not feeling crowded-in and acceptable noise level allowed for good table conversation. But, wine list featured too many high-priced (over $75) selections and too few in the $25 to $45 range."

"The food was wonderful as always. Nouveau down-home, upscale southern or whatever you want to call it. The salmon croquettes were just what I needed and my parents enjoyed they're fried catfish - and fried food is a pleasure they (or we) seldom allow ourselves.
The closest thing to a complaint I can make is that it's a little noisy. We were fortunate this time to be seated in a corner behind a small wall which kept some of the din down. (My 80-something parents appreciated that!)
All in all, they've done a decent job of converting a gas station into a trendy neighborhood restaurant with some very good food and wine. I need to go there more often."

"My husband and I took our nephew for dinner. Our server Christian was outstanding, friendly, speedy and extremely knowledgable on food and drinks. He made great suggestions upon request and the food was amazing. There was something on the menu for everyone. The Duck was amazing!!!!!!!!

I would recommend going on Tuesday night early if you want to try their fried chicken, which was to die for, as we were told they run out early."

"We really enjoyed the food--the mussels were wonderful as well as the salad I had. My husband also enjoyed his lamb shank. We also appreciated the cup of the day's soup special on the house. Our server was also one of the best I've ever had--very present and personable but not imposing at all and very helpful with the menu. The one negative for my husband (who has back problems) was the uncomfortable hard seating. We sat against the wall but he was quite uncomfortable."

"I see chef Scott Peacock's recipes in my Better Homes and Garden mag, so I thought I would check out his restaurant. Many, if not all, of his menu items included seasonal foods. As an example, they had kale soup as a special on the menu, and it was outstanding, considering it's an item you'd think twice about ordering. The pork chop I ordered was perfectly cooked and came with an amazing mac and cheese, and collard greens on the side. My husband had the Beef Stroganoff and it was also outstanding. The choices for wine were excellent, although I found the specialty drinks to be overpriced. The restaurant's paint color is best suited to a hospital ward...I wouldn't give it that romantic, inviting feel. Overall, great restaurant."

"I'm from out of town and went to Watershed while visiting Atlanta - the food was delicious and the decor was very cute! My only critique is that one of my friends ordered the kale soup and found out that it was made with pork broth once she tasted it (she doesn't eat pork). Having ingredients published on the menu would be very helpful - especially in the case of meat. Thanks!"
