Socarrat Nolita's ambience denotes feelings of warmth, comfort and hospitality. Building on its sister restaurant's identity as a small, intimate space comprised primarily of one large communal table, the restaurant also offers banquette, bar and table seating.
Socarrat, the quintessence of the perfect paella and for which the restaurant is named, is the delectable, sensuous crust that forms on the bottom of the paella pan when the liquid is rendered and the rice reaches its peak of succulence. The menu, an authentic array of delicious dishes from the regions of Spain specializing in traditional tapas with an accent on paella and fideua (which substitutes fried noodles for rice) that can be characterized as a true exploration for the palette.
Socarrat Nolita also offers several tapas, wines by the glass, Spanish desserts, and sangria.
"BUT don't expect to be able to have an intimate conversation ... its a VERY lively crowd and the perfect place to eat and drink and have a great time. The paella was delicious to say the least"

"The service was excellent the Paella was good, but I guess I expected better...sangria great...tapas were good too...space is a bit tiny, so when the two paella's arrived for the 4 of us...they were a bit too big for the table....also too dark..I don't like certain kinds of seafood..so it was hard to pick it out...thank God I have a flashlight app on my cell phone!"

"Although it's a bit cramped, had a party of 6 here on a Friday night. My only 2 complaints are that it was really warm inside the restaurant and that the table was a little cramped for everyone's legs. Otherwise it was amazing, great food, and friendly service."

"Food was overpriced. A paella is supposed to serve two but I could eaten the whole thing myself. The crazy part is that each person has to pay the menu price of one paella. The waiters were very courteous but hovered over my girl and me throughout the meal. Overall, the restaurant is overrated."

"Socarrat is one of our favorite restaurants in NYC. We generally find the food in the Chelsea Reastaurant better and the ambience and neighborhood feel is superior there, but the Nolita location is coming along in these ways. Another great experience,"

"I've been to Socarrat Nolita a number of times and every time the service is attentive and friendly, and more importantly the food is consistently good. It's a great place for groups with a fun atmosphere and the paellas are excellent. The crispy rice on the bottom of the pan is the best part!"

"We went to this bustling tapas and paella place in Nolita after a play. Seated immediately. Tabled are pretty tight, but try for a window seat if available. Enjoyed the squid ink paella, although the seafood on top added little to the calamari already in the rice (fava beans were a nice touch). Good Spanish wine list. Great cappuccino to end the meal."

"We absolutely loved Socarrat. We are fans of paella and chose this restaurant to celebrate my sisters 21st birthday. The ambience was great. The restaurant was decorated beautifully and the music and lighting made you feel like you were possibly in Spain. Our server was impeccable. He was hilarious, welcoming & gave great recommendations for the entrees as we had never ate there before. The food was also mesmerizing. The presentation was beautiful & the meal was authentic & delicious. I would highly recommend the paella carne. We will definitely come back here."

"Very good restaurant! Food is excellent and the servers make great recommendations. However, the restaurant is very small. My BF and I were sat at a communal table. Now, I'm not too opposed to communal tables, but I do prefer having our separate seating. BUT, they crammed the communal table so tightly that it was very intrusive and awkward. You were almost touching both people on either side of you and there was not enough space at all. I was very displeased by that. Once one party got up and left, we were able to spread out a little and felt more comfortable. I'm not sure if you can request a private table or not, but I would def try and ask. All in all, the food makes up for a lot of it!"

"Had a little wait for the table from the time of our reservation but the hostess was very attentive and kept us informed all along the way. The scene/ambiance is relaxed with mood lighting and very comfortable. Had a bunch of tapas dishes for dinner of which i have mixed feelings. Suckling Pig special was excellent, Squid was a bit too chewy, Tortilla was good, Mushrooms good, Pimientos de Padron (Peppers) were far too hot (usually you get one or two that have heat but everyone of these was very hot).
Food just okay and as such way overpriced. Would probably go back to try the Paella (the signature food there) which did look good."

"The tapas were so delicious that we just feasted on those and never ordered paella! The eggplant and the pork belly were fantastic, and all the others we tried - including garlic shrimps, mushroom croquettes, Catalan sausage and Spanish hams - were very good. Very friendly service in charming (if tight) quarters with a small but lively bar."

"Everything was great, definitely good to go with at least 4 people so you can get the tapas and still have room to enjoy a Paella- which was huge and delicious."

"We were a large group of 11 and we sat at the communal table which worked well for us as we were the only group on the table. The tapas dishes were very tasty and nicely portioned. Our only complaint was the slow service for the entrees. The restaurant was not busy so the kitchen should have been able to handle the orders. Cudos to the restaurant though they did "comp" on of our guests meals because it was so late. I would go back again."

"Our party of 5 got sat at the bar, so it wasn't the most comfortable table, but the paella was delicious! The portions on some of the tapas (such as the serrano ham) were small because they slice it really thin and only give you a few slices for $14. This locations if very noisy so I don't recommend taking older folks here."

"Love this place. Paella is amazing (the special that night was a lobster paella -- it was great.) Pork belly and pulpo tapas were outstanding. Service couldn't have been better - warm, responsive, funny and charming."

"Valentine's day menu looked really nice, and the seafood was good, but the paella itself we found bland, and the dessert was missing something too. If this is the best the city has to offer, then the city has a long way to go."

"I told my girlfriend about the Midtown location and how great it is. So for Valentine's, I thought the Nolita location will be cool. We got jacked! They forced a prix fix menu on you, so I thought, "cool, I will save some money". Nope, it was not worth the $50 a head. It was more in the price range of $15.00. The garlic shrimp were good, not too garlic, but good. The grilled zucchini with goat cheese, barely had goat cheese on them, and the zucchini tasted raw. The paella was missing meat (which it said it had beef and chicken in it) and it was overly salted. Makes me think the seafood wasn't fresh. I felt dehydrated in the middle of the night and I drank a lot of water during and after the meal."
