Cannons Seafood Grill has been delighting our customers for over forty years. We are open for dinner seven days a week, serving Happy Hour from 4:30pm to 6:30pm daily. "This was our first time to visit this restaurant , I was a little nervous because we were taking mom there for Mother's Day dinner.
Wow, the view was spectacular! The restaurant was ready for our group and accommodated every request(high chair, window table)

"Cannons was incredibly slow on Mother's Day and didn't appear to be able to handle the crowd. After a slow meal, the wait for ice cream for the table was ridiculous. The server was nice and kept checking on us and apologized for the back up, but it seemed crazy to wait 20 minutes for ice cream. You would have thought they would have been better prepared on a day like Mother's Day. I would try going back again, but not on a holiday or time when it might be crowded. It didn' t seem like they could handle it."

"My father took my husband & I here for dinner while we were on vacation here from Michigan. Our server, Karri, was extremely pleasant & knowledgable & I felt that it really mattered to her that we had a good experience. The food was amazing, the drinks delicious, dessert was divine! "Our server was busy with her large table as we were neglected throughout the meal.
When we were finished with our meal, we waited 15 min before our waitress finally came back. I gave her my credit card to close the order. She returned back in 5 min and dropped off the check, but where was my credit card? She hadn’t rung it up and she did not return it. I called her back over and reminded her I had already given her my credit card. She called out from the upper section of the room “Don’t worry I wasn’t going to go shopping with your credit card, I had to drop the check to show you the total. We have to do that”. The tables around us were looking at her, like “What the ?”
She came by and picked up the check. I didn’t say anything verbally"

"Clearly, the view is fantastic! It is a common belief that you visit places such as this for the view and accept less than great food. While the service was very, very good, the food was only fair. Per my kids, they only go for the view (drinks) and not the food. The lobster bisque tasted more like Velveeta cheese soup!!! Unless your taste buds are shot, go there for the view and don't expect great things from the food...then, you won't be dissappointed."

"It's a great place for location, food, service and views. Just about everywhere in the restaurant has a view of the Ocean from Dana Point Harbor out to the Pacific. The food I had was unbelievable! I really enjoyed the Sea Bass, the way it was grilled was perfect...the flavor was perfect; it was moist yet not under cooked.
The location is excellent for folks living in So Orange County, it's nice to be able to find a decent restaurant...anywhere in this area that's not super-pricey.
Parking is adequate for the number of seats in the building...so you won't be looking for a spot for 30 minutes like you would in Laguna Beach (nor will you end up walking another 30).

"We ended up leaving without getting our food because the service was so bad. That is a first for me. The waitress took our drink order, brought the drinks, and then I was almost done with my wine before she returned. So maybe they were busy... Well, then we heard a huge chear from the kitchen and then another. And there just happened to be a big basketball game going on that night. Hmmmm.... We continued to wait. We grabbed a bus boy and asked him to get out waitress. We kept waiting. She finally showed up. Said she was sorry, but no explination so I said I wanted the check. The food looked really awful from what I could see. Fish drenched in sauce and sad steamed vegetables on the side. It looked really old and outdated."

"Came here for my wife's Birthday. Food was very good. Started with the lobster bruschetta, which was sizable and tasty. My wife has the macadamia crusted halibut and I had the cioppino. Both dishes were fairly large and enjoyable. We thought that, for the price, the meals were a good value. The cioppino, especially, with a generous mix of crustaceans and fish. I look forward to coming back in the summer when it will be better to sit outside and enjoy the view."

"Food was decent but poor service tarnished experience. Restaurant seemed short staffed, but someone should have explained that. I was at a table for two, and two tables who came 5-10 min. after us got served first, and one of those tables was a party of 6. We waited about 35 min to order then almost the same to get our dinners. Had an event after so we had to gulp our food and hunt down waiter for check. Hostess was very charming. Breathtaking view of Dana Point Harbor, but decor needs refurbishing. If I recommended this restaurant, it would be with caveat to allow plenty of time and don't arrive hungry. Hopefully this experience does not occur often."

"We heard about the spectacular view and were still astounded - I actually said " wow" out loud when being shown to our table. The daily prime rib special was an unexpected treat. It was as good as any I have ever had. The service was a little cold and impersonal. Seemed rushed and busy. We both ordered the baked potato instead of the garlic mashed, but were served the mashed. Manager apologized and blamed the waitress for entering the order incorrectly. We did not receive any special recognition for celebrating our wedding anniversary with them, not even a " thank you"."

"Very good food and fantastic view of Dana point Harbor. Had to wait 30 minutes tho we had this reservation. Minimal wait seating, or even places to stand...no bar to wait in, either. Hostesses need training and a better system to take people in order of reservation, and arrival...they took 2 couples that arrived after us before we were seated, even though they told everyone they were "running about 10 minutes behind". We arrived 5 minutes before our reservation time, and checked in with them twice. Went for the $17.95 prime rib early diner that friends had 2 days earlier...was told it is now $19.95..almost didn't get that as it was well past 7:00 by time were seated, and waited 15 minutes to see our waiter..apparently short staffed."

"Seafood restaurant overlooking Dana Point harbor. My wife and I celebrated Valentines Day 2013 here and reserved a seat at the top level of the restaurant.
We started with the crab beignets with that red pepper and cilantro dipping sauces. The beignets were a little oily by the time it got to us, but those sauces were incredible. My wife had the shrimp scampi nestled in a bed of their wild rice pilaf. On the side was a vegetable medley. The shrimp were butterflied, buttery and tasty with the tails left on. I had the macadamia nut crusted swordfish with the same assortment. The swordfish had this delicious vanilla butter infusion that was really good. Oh and go with the chocolate lava cake, you won't be disappointed."

"Cannons has good seafood. The menu is not particularly adventurous, but what they serve is well prepared. If you're looking for nuevo cuisine, then try the Ritz Carlton. If you want a straightforward seafood meal, with one of the most spectacular views this side of the Mississippi River, then Cannons is a good choice."

"The view from Cannon's of the Dana Point harbor was spectacular and would have been worth the price of dinner. However to put great food with the view made for a special treat. I had the seafood cioppino and loved it. The flavor was amazing, it was chocked full of seafood, and it was cooked perfectly. The prices were reasonable and better than other restaurants in the area many of which did not have a view. Cannon's will meet the needs of many whether looking for a nice place to have a business dinner or for a place to have a special night out."

"We went for Valentine's Day with a reservation long in advance. At the reservation desk was a commotion, several employees running aimlessly back and forth and reservations for an hour later were seated before immediate reservations. The waitress only took our order for appetizers and we had to get her attention to order the main meal. It took a while and then the food was warm, not hot. The food was excellent and the view into the harbor great. The lower part of the restaurant was not filled and other waitresses were rushing back and forth, but we felt neglected. So we decided not to order dessert or coffee and instead asked for the bill. When we were told: here you are, you lovebirds! I almost lost it. We have been married for 45 years!"

"Really nice view of the harbor, but you cannot see the sunset from this restaurant even though it says you can on the website. That probably was the biggest disappointment. But the view was still really nice I got there around 5:30 and there were a couple window tables still left on a Monday night. Although when we were taken back to get seated some man told the lady not to sit us by the window that the happy hour gets seated elsewhere even though we were there for dinner and even made a reservation, so that was pretty rude. Must have been since I am younger.. The waitress was really nice and new the entire menu. The swordfish was amazing and the coconut shrimp for an appetizer. Prices are where they should be it was good and a good amount"
