The stylish Japanese restaurant specializes in freshly made soba noodle dishes, served hot or cold in soups or with dipping sauces. The restaurant is owned by Teiichi Sakurai, well-known as the founder of Teppo and Tei Tei.
Soba is a thin Japanese noodle made from buckwheat flour – there are only 5 in the country which prepares fresh noodle on the premises.
Owner and staff want for you to experience a touch of Tokyo in the middle of Dallas: "modern Tokyo" mixing rich wood, concrete, stone, steel and glass. The best seats in the house are at the dining room’s soba bar that wraps the stone garden.
"The waitress was not very friendly at all and she was very helpful with the menu. Also, the food was very salty seemed like the cook was on a roll using salt on everything. The price of the dishes was extremely high for the value of it. I would not recommend nor will I return to this restaurant again. My date whom happens to be Japanese was disappointed worse than I was."

"Tei-An is the most authentic Japanese restaurant in Dallas. Can't find the menu online? No worries - just order the omakase ($50/$80). Reminiscent of kaiseki in Kyoto. Don't miss the rooftop terrace for an after-dinner drink amid great views. Attentive and knowledgeable service. Gluten-free items are available (not omakase), but be advised that the buckwheat noodles contain 20% wheat."

"Very few Japanese restaurants make fresh soba (buckwheat) noodles and these are a Tei-An specialty. The soba are wonderful and everything else is in keeping with the quality of the food. No flaws. Food, service, atmosphere all blended harmoniously."

"We went here seeking an adventure in dining -- and found it. We started off with the white seafood salad and had the Omakase-An (expanded chef's selection) for our entree, which was very good. We were hoping for more seafood in the choices; one course was a lobster risotto, but we didn't count that as "seafood"; in fact, it was kind of off-putting. The sushi courses were the best with some of the freshest, cleanest fish we have had. The soba noodles were great. She had the soba tea, which was earthy and different in a good way. Overall, we were very pleased.
Downside: a too-raucous "private" event was going on in the room next to us. I hope the cab companies made a lot of money taking those people home that night."

"The food is always perfect and the service always fantastic. It is the best seaweed salad anywhere - a delicious white seaweed that is mild but more satisfying that the regular green thin seaweed. I did not notice the new vegetarian options on the menu, but I look forward to trying them. Even though my selections, as a vegetarian, are limited, I always enjoy what I eat."

"Superior Asian Cuisine, great ambiance, and subtle, exceptional service. Some of the best Japanese food we have ever experienced. Tei-An makes our special occasions and visits to the AT&T Performing Arts Center that much better."

"usual excellent service and wonderful food. The only thing that marred our visit was a very loud party in the next room. Not sure why they didn't close the doors, since they have them, but they were very loud.
Next time, when I make my reservations I will ask about large parties and if they have one, I will go a different day."

"Ambiance was great. quiet, private, interesting decor. had the omakase. Fist few courses were wonderful japanese food. We were a bit disappointed when the last couple of courses abruptly switched to italian/japanese fusion. Quality of these was good, but disrupted the flow of what had been a wonderful japanese meal. Will return and will order only japanese style items."

"After a monkfish pâté appetizer we went with the "Tei" tasting menu at fifty dollars. Since I wanted to order everything on the menu this gave me a nice sampling. Very nice energetic favors but with a deft hand for balance."

"Sushi was very fresh, but very expensive (Nigiri $4 per piece, not for 2) and no rolls. Blue cheese salad was just dry lettuce and blue cheese with an overly heavy on vinegar side of dressing. Noodle dish we had was very bland. I would like to go back and try other things, but the menu is difficult to navigate as it does not contain adequate descriptions. The server was very knowledgable, but I don't like having to ask, "What does this come with? How is this prepared?" about so many items on the menu. The minimalist decor is beautiful."

"food was good but nothing WOWed us really, the white seaweed salad = woodears =) Chinese eat this all the time at much bigger portion...then decor is fantastic and very romantic but the price / portion is very downtown =( the soba was hand made and it's good but again the portion killed it and the price too high they do offer variety of sake drinks and others as well all and all a good experience at the restaurant with good service but the food is just ok."

"What a beautiful experience! I have dined all around the world including The French Laundy in Yountville this last November and Tei-An makes my top 5 favorite reastaurants to visit in my life. Every dish we had brought us pure delight and we look forward to coming back as soon as we are back in Dallas. This place is a GEM!"

"Tei-An is an innovative soba noodle house. The green soba bolognese with Wagyu beef was delicious as was my partner's buckwheat seafood pancake. The sushi was great too. Beautiful and serene dining room. We'll be back."

"Good Japanese food, but nothing spectacular compared to NYC. The prices are high for what you get but service and decor is nice. THe sauces are not traditional for items like Soba so if you aren't expecting that then it might be OK. More geared for American tastes."

"I've been here twice and can't wait to go back to try new things! I've had the hot noodles w/ meatballs, the bolognese, and of course sake. All very yummy. I haven't had the sushi yet but looking forward to trying it. The ambiance is great and be sure to check out the rooftop deck. Great views up there!"

"We had wanted to try Tei-An for quite awhile and was finally able to get a res. We were greeted by the hostess promptly and were seated right away. We waited close to 10 minutes before our waitress approached us & asked what type of water we wanted. She then disappeared for another 5 minutes, brings the water and asks if we're ready to order. I told her we were ready to order cocktails. She took the order and returned with the drinks about 15 minutes later. During this time we tried to decipher what we found to be a somewhat confusing menu. She offered no explanations. We thought the food was good, not exceptional, nothing close to what we expected after reading all the glowing reviews. Will probably give it another try sometime later."

"Really a nice atmosphere. Our server had no idea what vegetarian options were available and none of the options were marked on the menu. The only soba that we could order (which is the specialty) was a cold soba salad, as everything else came in a fish or meat broth. The food was good, the dessert was not as good!"

"One of two restaurants that DMN critic Leslie Brenner rated five stars in the DFW metro, and understandably so. Teiichi Sakurai has done it again, first with Tei Tei Robata Bar. The Omakase and a-la carte never disappoint. Come prepared with deep pockets, not because you can't have an economical meal here (a soba noodle dinner for two could be had for $50), but you simply cannot stop at one dish.
Many restaurants chef's choices are mediocre... feeling like you're getting the worst of the day's catch and that's why it's discounted. Not the case here. Both the TEI and the AN courses are fantastic and you get more than you pay for in presentation, freshness and experience. Top off with a bottle of Hakkaisan Junmai Daiginjo!"
