"I took my dad here for a father's day brunch on saturday and he loved it! food was fantastic, i like the atmosphere, our server was lovely, i had a great experience. i'm not one to complain but i will say that the hostesses were snobby when my dad asked to move to a different table (not in the corner). I expect that from hostesses because generally that's how they are, but i take offense when i make a reservation to take my dad to a nice place for brunch for FATHER'S DAY and you are rude to him in any way. Like I said though, that doesn't take away from the rest of our experience being wonderful and making up for that. hopefully that girl will turn her attitude around in the future!"

"I really enjoyed the unique preparations and the tapas style dining. I brought my in laws who are in their 80s and they enjoyed the food too - room was a little loud for them however. It is my favorite place in the city for unique fish dishes. Service was attentive as well."

"We have been to GT Fish & Oyster countless times, on varying occasions. We've been there on several date nights and have also gone in with large groups.
Their wine list is incredible. We have always found a great bottle of wine, whether it is middle of the road price, or a special occasion bottle; either at the suggestion of the bartender or server, or one we've chosen ourselves.
We can't get enough of their dishes and the best part is that the menu is always changing. No matter how often we return, there is always something new and INCREDIBLE, and they always manage to keep our absolute favorite dishes. GT is one of our top two restaurants in all of Chicago, and we've been to a lot of great places...."

"We had lunch at the bar and had a great time.
We started with oysters (tried 3 different kinds, the staff was great at explaining the difference) and then had the fish tacos (light and delicious) and the fish sandwich, which happened to be soft shell crab (also fab, with great homemade chips).
But perhaps my favorite thing on the menu was the spiked Betty Jean Lemonade - OMG. I could have drank that all day. In fact, we went back a second time just so I could have another one!"

"The menu is creative and we had some very delicious dishes. But the bar area is so loud that it is hard to hear your dining companions in the dining room. While our table was cleared promptly after each dish, our server was non-existent once we ordered. We were asked to order all at once and she did not check back more than once, so she failed to notice that the mussels we ordered were not eaten. The broth was wonderful but the mussels were fishy and too chewy. I would expect a server at a restaurant of that quality to a) notice and b) offer to replace the dish with something else. Plus, since she coursed out our order, she left those for last when we had asked for them first. Odd and rather disappointing."

"I expected something fantastic, but found it to be just above average. Softshell crab was over fried and too salty. Desserts way too sweet.
Oysters were fresh (as one should not expect anything less, fresh is still average), but presentation was below average.

"I went for my birthday this week and could not have been more satisfied. I went with some friends and we ordered 6 dishes to split; every dish that came out was more amazing than the last. We ordered the bruschetta, fish tacos, soft-shell crab, lobster mac 'n cheese, crab cake, and the mussels. The service was great, or waiter had a great attitude. The dessert they brought was some type of banana, dark chocolate, and raspberry amazingness. Overall, I had an amazing birthday and GT really added to it!"

"Whether celebrating an anniversary/birthday or meeting friends/family for brunch or dinner, our "go-to" restaurant is GT Fish and Oyster. From perfectly mixed cocktails to desserts(ok, now I'm salivating remembering the salted caramel tart!), we are always beyond pleased. Not to be missed is the Clam Chowder with homemade oyster crackers, which could be overlooked with the plethora of choices on the menu. I LOVE that it is 'small plates' and you can try a few different dishes. One of the dishes we tried this past visit was the pork belly. My husband and I agreed that it was outstanding! The oysters are the best I've had in Chicago and if you happen to be there after 10 p.m., they are 1/2 price. Fun to stop & have a drink/oysters late night!"

"For the second time in 6 weeks, I experienced an exceptional meal, cozy yet comfortable atmosphere, and personal attention of the utmost friendliness from the staff at GT fish & Oyster.
A former colleague and my once-mentor was in town and I was eager to show an insider's look at Chicago. The hosts were very accommodating when we asked to move our table to the bar instead. Flexibility and courteousness to the customer is always highly regarded. The bartender offered insightful and knowledgeable wine recommendations. My colleague and I stuffed ourselves heartily and had a great time. The noise level grew as the night wore on, as expected, but it added to the buzzing energy to the restaurant. All around, another rewarding meal at GT Oyster!"

"We eat here fairly regularly when we can get a reservation... seafood is innovative and super fresh; careful attention is paid to the preparation because nearly every dish on the menu (and I have tried nearly all of them) is a winner! My favorite are the oyster & kimchee sliders.. order extras because you will wish you had after you take your first bite.. The crudo of the day is also a winner and a def must as it sets this restaurant apart from many others.. They get the fish right! Came back on this occasion for my husband's birthday and it was yet another memorable meal!"

"Came here for my 50th and ordered tons of stuff - raw oysters were fresh, delish; crudo of the day had 8 dif items and a bargain at $30. Abt 2 to 3 bites of each item all with dif seasonings; mussels were warm and rich with fresh grilled bread to dip; oyster shooters were oh so good.. My fave-the oyster & kimchee sliders. could've eaten 12! artichokes were nice & light; octopus was tender & rich; clam chowder & was super rich and bacony.. lots of clams; fish & chips fun - batter was light, and the "chips" were potato wedges dusted in vinegar powder! What a great idea! Only meh dish was the stuffed squid.. it was good but paled compared to everything else. This is my favorite seafood restaurant.. if I could only get reservations more often!"

"From the moment you walk in the door at GT Fish & Oyster, you know you're someplace special! The decor is fantastic - subtle, almost ethereal designs on the chalkboard painted walls, eclectic furnishings and high quality glassware (I know it's weird, but I think it says a lot about a restaurant.) The food is amazing, and the fact that it's on small plates means you can try a wide variety. The service was flawless, and the sommelier (who may have been the floor manager) deftly guided my wine choices. All in all, this was a truly memorable experience and one I look forward to repeating on a future trip to the windy city!"

"We had been to GT a while ago, back when it did a lot of small plates, and loved it. This time we went at Saturday lunchtime and were sad to discover they have a brunch-specific menu then, with a bunch of uninspired basic-brunch entrees and basically no options to accompany the entrees - no salads, no appetizers, etc., making lunch basically one course and out (unless you feel like adding oysters). I gave the food a 4 because of the most perfect lobster roll I've had, but my wife's crab Benedict was unexciting. And that's all there was. The server was capable but unengaged - no conversation, no suggestions, no cheer.
We'll probably go back for dinner sometime, in the hope that the somewhat more diverse menu will make it more interesting."

"Recommend GT Fish and Oyster to all seafood lovers whether you're a novice or a connoisseur; the creative tapas format was perfect to experiment with a variety of seafood prepared in a way that satiated your taste buds. Service staff was fantastic- helpful without overbearing on choices and intelligently anticipated our needs with always a willingness to make the dining experience enjoyable. Then the restaurant topped that off with a gift certificate "thank you" for selecting GT Fish and Oyster for our Anniversary."

"Could of been good if the bartender put our order in. I definitely herad my girlfriend request the sampler yet he didn't. Coud of been an honest mistake but still was a negative experience. After waiting 45 min and then checking on the order it was put in and arrived quickly. Would of tried 3-4 more dishes after the sampler but then decided to go to Hugos."

"Highly impressive dinner from start to finish, and a memorable meal more than befitting our special occasion. I made a reservation at GT Fish & Oyster to celebrate with my kid sister her graduation from university and I couldn't be happier with the experience we received: the atmosphere and staff were charming, the food was impeccably executed and beautifully presented, every dish was delicious, and the entire service apparatus was gracious and thoughtful. The menu boasts an impressive assortment of self-proclaimed "simple" food with a decidedly elegant flair and tasty combination of flavors. First rate hospitality and dining."

"We arrived at 10:00 am for our brunch reservation and walked in to a low key setting. We sat at the bar and had a wonderful meal accompanied by a few boozy cocktails. Bartenders were great, knowledgable, and helpful in regards to travel plans and public transportation. The food was fantastic. We tried shrimp and grits, crab Benedict, and the duck chilequiles. I highly recommend."

"Each small dish was a lovely combination of flavors and textures -- I highly recommend the grilled octopus and the fish tacos. The kitchen knows what it's doing, and the waitstaff are pleasant and helpful. If you forego the alcohol, you can get an excellent meal for a very reasonable price."
