Fourth Estate Restaurant at the National Press Club Reviews List
Fourth Estate Restaurant at the National Press Club
Dine at the Fourth Estate restaurant at the National Press Club and you'll enjoy great food in a setting rich with history. It is the perfect place for a business lunch, interview or dinner with friends and colleagues. Executive Chef Susan Delbert offers up New American cuisine in a place where famous and newsworthy persons aren't just autographed pictures on the wall, they are probably speaking in the next room! While the venue is historic, the food is rooted in the here and now. Chef Delbert works with organic and small farmers in the Mid-Atlantic region, giving her access to the freshest, most flavorful meats and produce.
"I was dining alone, and I must say that I was treated with respect by my server. He was very friendly and made me feel as if I were the most important customer of his day. The food was fabulous and arrived in a timely manner. Overall, I would say that this is a great place to go for a very pleasant dining experience."

Review 2 for Fourth Estate Restaurant at the National Press Club
"We celebrated our daughters's graduation here and were treated to delicious food and wonderful service. Almost too quiet though as we were the only group at 8pm. Easy and validated parking in nearby garage. Love the photos of press people and politicians. A night to remember."

Review 4 for Fourth Estate Restaurant at the National Press Club
"The Fourth Estate is a hidden-gem. Hope more people (especially journalists) support this place. The halibut entree was delicious. The shiraz tasty. The spinach salad excellent. The sorbet yummy. And the wait staff, as always, was very friendly. Wish the restaurant could change the lighting a bit. Feel like there's a spotlight overhead."

Review 5 for Fourth Estate Restaurant at the National Press Club
"In the National Press Club. Convenient to theaters. Food is very good, service is excellent. It is great for a quiet, relaxing meal before attending a show in downtown DC. It is not very well known, so it is easy to get a table on a crowded theater night."

Review 7 for Fourth Estate Restaurant at the National Press Club
"This is where many of Washington's movers and shakers go to eat and socialize. The food is excellent, and so is the service. It's very much on the pricey side; I recommend it only for a special occasion or if you have a discount coupon (I had one from AAA). It was surprising quiet and uncrowded."

Review 8 for Fourth Estate Restaurant at the National Press Club
"I was very pleased with my experience at the Fourth Estate Restaurant. The food was DELICIOUS. The service was fantastic. I was particularly impressed that the chef and servers were willing to accomodate my young children by giving them kid-friendly food and desserts, even though it was not on the menu! The servers were very attentive and the manager and host were very friendly and engaging with the children. The Blues Alley Youth Orchestra combo was fantastic!! What a great addition to the restaurant experience. It was a great evening for my family and the guests that we invited! Thank you."

"If I were not in the building I would not eat there. The kitchen has been bad for years and does not improve even after rthe Chef table hops and reintroduces herself to guests again and again."

"Not only are the food and service top notch, what I really like is the quiet, unrushed atmosphere. Great for good conversation. Also, it isn't so dark that you can't read the menu."

Review 18 for Fourth Estate Restaurant at the National Press Club
"I have been to the Fourth Estate restaurant many times. It used to be one of my favorite restaurants, until last Wednesday, April 3rd. That evening, I had one of the worst dining experiences I have had in a very long time. My waitress was terrible; she couldn't keep the order straight; she didn't refresh our drinks or even return for any additional requests while we were there. We had to repeatedly stop other wait staff for assistance because she was unconcerned about our dining experience. Additionally, the crabcakes were mushy and without much crab meat.
Overall the entire meal experience was a great disappointment. I expected much better service and food preparation from this restaurant."

"What a find - good food, great service, and the noise level was perfect to be able to have a conversation among the four of us without having to raise our voices. Head chef came out to say hi, which was a nice touch. Definitely try the crab cakes!"

Review 21 for Fourth Estate Restaurant at the National Press Club
"The food was very good. Our server was really terrific and was very friendly. They just opened up at 5:30 when we arrived so it was very quiet. They only had five other tables. New guests starting arriving as we were finishing up around 6:45. Overall pretty good food and the atmosphere was quiet."

Review 22 for Fourth Estate Restaurant at the National Press Club
"The physical restaurant is dated and not very appealing but the building and floor itself is wonderful with pictures of many great journalists and writers - if it wasn't for a Travelzoo offer I wouldn't have known about the restaurant, the food is very good, they were definitely a bit overwhelmed with so many people using the offer but I would definitely go back especially since the restaurant is centrally located and they will pay for parking (not sure if it is only in the evening or just for dinner)"

Review 23 for Fourth Estate Restaurant at the National Press Club
"Waiters need to either pool their tips, or management ensure waiters have assigned tables. Waiters were arguing about table assignments in front of us and restaurant guests when we walked in. Quite embarrassing. Food was ok, nothing special. Could have made same quality food at home. Used a Travelzoo deal for dinner, wouldn't pay regular price for sure."

Review 24 for Fourth Estate Restaurant at the National Press Club
"We purchased coupons on Travelzoo for $45 which included 2 entrees, 2 appetizers and 2 glasses of champagne. Thought this would be a great way to try a new restaurant without breaking the bank. Boy, were we wrong! The ambiance was a cross between being on an outdated and in need of repair 1970's cruise ship and being in a nursing home. The food was like cafeteria food with exception of the "appetizers" which were salads. Ceaser salad was good. 3 of us got the NY strip streak with horseradish mashed potatoes and spinach. Steaks were tough and the sauce was clearly a packaged au jus sauce. Very salty! Potatoes seems like a box potatoe with a strange flavor. Wasn't horseradish. Not worth the $45!"

Review 32 for Fourth Estate Restaurant at the National Press Club
"A fun location, and very good food. The service was a bit odd - very, very nice, but it seemed like what we ordered was just a suggestion for what we received (not the same as ordered) and were charged for (the bill didn't really reflect either what we ordered or what we received). They fixed the bill, but still - I was looking forward to the toffee sauce on the brownie and they just sent Hershey's syrup... Things like that, but a number of them, so perhaps need some refining of either their menu or their plating."

Review 34 for Fourth Estate Restaurant at the National Press Club
"It's almost a shame that the food is so good, because if it was as drab, boring, and stuffy as the decor and ambiance, I wouldn't have to wrestle with whether or not to go back."

Review 35 for Fourth Estate Restaurant at the National Press Club
"This is a quiet, decent place for a business lunch. The service is good, it is part of the national press club. The food is ok (decent, not spectacular). It is a little odd in that the windows look out over an interior court yard in the National Press building. But not a bad pick if you are looking for someplace close to Metro Center Metro or the White House. Take the elevator to the top floor from the main entrance and then go right to get there."

"Fourth Estate is a wonderful high-class place to grab a great meal or delicious dessert! Located in the National Press Club on the 13th floor this resturant is well secluded but well worth the elevator ride, you never know who you may run into."

"Made a reservation for Valentine's Day and had a phenomenal experience. The food was great, atmosphere was unique -- in the "makes-you-feel-really-important" kind of way -- without breaking the bank. Service was very attentive and made for a great experience. Highly recommended and would absolutely return for a workday lunch, special occasion dinner, or anything in between."

"The crab cakes were amazing, as was the service. We were literally the only people in the restaurant, though. This place is defintely a little dated, but the staff couldn't have been nicer. I liked it and would go again."

"I wish the food was as excellent as the service. My friend and I got different dishes and tried both. The vegetables were under cooked, the chicken was dry, and the steak was chewy. The food was mediocre at best, definitely not worth the money that we paid."

Review 45 for Fourth Estate Restaurant at the National Press Club
"Classy, formal dining room surrounded by historic photos doesn't feel like a restaurant. The food was outstanding... from the selection of beautiful salad combinations that made deciding which to have difficult, to the array of entrees (don't miss the crab cakes), and finally tough choices in the dessert category so save room (mango/pear crisp was incredible). Pleasantly surprised by the food. Make time to enjoy the exhibits in the Press Club too."
