Alchemy is already a success for Michael and Debi Matassa, who owned the popular Fusion Grille in Fallston. While Michael is the executive chef, Debi is the sommelier and pastry chef. Alchemy's setting is polished and sophisticated but comfortable and welcoming. The menu offers various twists to traditional dishes and other creative fare. The restaurant is also serving Sunday brunch... the only champagne brunch on The Avenue. - Baltimore Magazine

"I met a friend for what turned out to be a quick lunch and I continue to be impressed with how dependably good the food actually is. The salad with caramelized avocados was lovely and my friend's portobello sandwich was deliciously satisfying. If you haven't been here yet-go; and if you have, go again!"

"This was our first time there, but our friends had been there before. Food was GREAT and portions were generous!! We all ordered apps to share and we did try each others entrees and all were delish!! mussles and lamb chops were my fav!! Might try to get back for brunch, what a great place!! Service was excellent and the waitress new about every dish on the menu!! She was very helpful when ordering!! the chef was walking around checking on tables!! Nice touch!!"

"Food is very interesting. A lot of care and thought has gone into creating balanced tastes with fresh combinations. Ingredients, preparation, and presentation were first rate. Experience was helped by a very knowledgable waiter who was able to effortless describe the dishes at a depth beyond the normal recitation of the list of ingredients."

"Overall the food was good, not great. We had three of the appetizers including the chile rellino, the crab bisque and the mussels. The chile was OK, the bisque was far too rich and overwhelmed the abundant crab and the mussels were a disaster. The flavorings for the mussels did nothing to enhance the mussels and the eclectic mixtures was a dud. The main course was also extremely rich and we left the restaurant feeling bloated. This was more 1950's cuisine than 21st century. Have not felt this way since dining at Paul Bocuse."

"Went to Alchemy with a friend for dinner on a Friday night. Reservations were not needed as we were one of 4 tables dining in the restaurant. Waitress seemed a bit frazzled. She "forgot" to mention a few of the appetizers and just seemed a little off of her A game. My friend and I both got salads that were presented beautifully and were surprisingly nice portions. The jalapeno cheese bread was very good, but I wish they served more! Overall, very nice experience. Would definitely go back and try out more of the food, specifically the entrees."

"Our 2nd time at Alchemy.We love the Manhattan feel of this place.The cocktails are crafted with layers of flavor & the wine selection is stellar yet affordable.Our waiter anticipated all our needs without interupting once.The salads were beautiful(I had to take a picture)This place does fish!We had an Ahi tuna, a roasted red snapper,a Hawaiian sword fish and lamb chops.The 4 of us passed the plates and smiled in food Nirvana.There is a very strong presence of ownership.We felt so welcomed by the lovely hostess.A genuine smile never left her face.We were too full for dessert..next trip.Every table we saw had a personal visit from the owner.We cant wait to return and sit upstairs.That dining room is extra cool.I forgot BRUSSEL SPROUTS (OMG)"

"I have eaten at Alchemy twice and both times I have had a wonderful experience! I have Celiac Disease, and not only are wait staff and chefs very well versed in gluten free food preparation, they are also very accommodating and willing to modify selections that I might otherwise not be able to eat.
It is very challenging & stressful as a Celiac to eat out, but I feel very comfortable eating at Alchemy. Their food is innovative and delicious and the service is amazing!"

"I love Alchemy--it's one of my very favorite restaurants ever. The chef is consistently creative and I personally have never had anything less than a fabulous dish. The oysters were amazing and my tuna was to die for. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars this night is because my husband ordered his lamb medium and it was rare. He regretted not sending it back. As for service, our waiter was polite and attentive. However, he cleared our plates when one of our diners was clearly still eating. She was leaving town that evening and we wanted to be in no hurry. She was also paying for dinner! I asked him to stop but he didn't understand and finally I had to put my hand down and say stop! Why rush your diners???"

"Great bartender who described some unique cocktails on the menu. Our drinks were delicious. Great staff. Our server was very friendly and attentive when we needed him to be. The food was pretty good. Maybe I was expecting it to be outstanding which it wasn't and so I only gave it 3 stars. We did enjoy it and would return. The menu looks great, but of course, you can only try so many things at one meal. We had a nice time and would recommend Alchemy."

"Very disappointed! After we were seated with menus by the hostess, we sat for nearly 10 minutes until our waitress came over to us. The first thing she asked was whether we had any questions. My response was,"Yes, may I order a cocktail." For entree selections, I ordered the stuffed acorn, that had sheets of lasagna type pasta. The pasta was unflavored and an unlikable combination with the roasted vegatables. My husband ordered the Tournedos Crab a Rooney,which arrived at room temperature/borderline cold. I am sorry to say that I am not inclined to return."

"We have a new favorite restaurant.Scallops seared atop yellow pepper zucchini risotto.YUM Pork carnitas flat bread with an apple,fig & cherry chutney was a great combo.I had a pan seared swordfish from Hawaii served with chili relleno & sweet potato tempura.My date had the chili rubbed pork tenderloin. It cut like butter.Oven roasted veggies were great but OMG..brussel sprouts w/ bacon & cream.(need I say more)we shared a flourless chocolate cake finished with an avocado choc. mousse. I was a skeptic but wow,it was just plain fantastic.The cocktails were excellent and the wine list is top notch and affordable.We felt welcome from the time the hostess greated us until the owner held the door to say good bye.Our waiter Kyle was perfect.Kudos!"

"My date and I both ordered fish. The tuna entree was outstanding. Sushi-grade flown in from Hawaii. The presentation was beautiful. I only wish they served wasabi with it instead of olive tapenade. The swordfish special was also exceptionally good. Fresh swordfish cooked perfectly is hard to find. It was firm and moist and served over creamy polenta. I could eat here every week!"

"This is New York dining.Such amazing food for Baltimore. Crab bisque was the best I've ever eaten,texture of velvet, lumps the size of quarters.We foodies have never seen a salad with brule avocado. True magic.I had lamb chops with a lavander demi glace, perfect.My date had a braised beef short rib with fresh blackberry jus,it just fell off the bone.Shushi tuna & swordfish both flown in from Hawaii that morning.The cocktail list is impossible to choose from (you want them all)We shared a bacon housemade caramel tart.Off the charts.The wine came with a real Sommelier who floats through the dining room visiting every table-found out she's the owner.Our waiter was stellar, knew the menu inside & out.The entire staff was genuine and gracious."

There are limited dinner selections if you are not a seafood lover, but all we sampled were very well prepared. Not crazy about their signature cocktails. Had an overly sweet Manhattan and a very strange Mojito. Wait staff was excellent and helpful. Advised us that the tip had already been added to the tab because of the use of a Groupon."

"Very attractive restaurant with a nice twist on the usual fare. The Monte Cristo sandwich was spectacular -- and beautifully presented. However, the chocolate ganache with caramel in a bacon-flavored crust didn't work for me. The bacon taste overpowered everything else; it would have been better as a quiche crust. Still, you've got to admire a restaurant that makes all its desserts and tries for a distinctive touch."

"I am a chef, and I'm sad to say this was my first time at Alchemy. Their menu was the most exciting menu I've seen in a very long time! The Chef's use of unusual and creative ingredients was great and made me want to order everything on the menu!Only comment is that all of the food seemed under seasoned - needed salt and a hit of lemon or vinegar to pick up the flavors.The grapefruit Campari sorbet was spectacular."

"The management was very understanding when we called to explain we would be a few minutes late for dinner. I had the caramelized avocado and baby greens salad and pecan crusted lamb chops. "We had great expectations for the food, and it was only so-so. But it made up for this by being very expensive. The seafood "crepe" was more like a seafood burrito--the crepe was heavy and rubbery and folded like they do at Chipotle. The salad was excellent, but $11 was a lot for the salad, and for $3 they provide one cheddar biscuit that was good, but not exquisite."

"The food was delicious, hearty fare, the price reasonable. It is a small restaurant with a bar upstairs and seating for maybe 50 downstairs. The owners are very present and made a special point of stopping by our table to introduce themselves and make sure everything was as expected.

"This charming restaurant never disappoints. Crab bisque was among the best ever had by one of our dining companions. Pork tenderloin and tamales, filet with crab meat, red snapper, crab cakes, lamb chops and salmon were all terrific and the presentation is beautiful and artful. we wanted to talk and catch up and we were never rushed or pressed which made for an even more pleasant evening. We will all be back here for sure."

"I went to Alchemy for lunch with a friend. We made a reservation, but called to let them know we would be a little late. When we arrived, they had out table ready and waiting with fresh glasses of ice water. The service was excellent, out waiter was friendly and attentive. My food was also delicious - I had the salmon plate and the monte cristo. It was so good that I had to finish it even though I was full! I will definitely come back and bring my boyfriend."
