Sfoglia is a lovely little trattoria residing on an unassuming stretch of the Upper East Side, across the street from the 92nd Street Y. Farmhouse tables topped with the season's produce are the appropriate setting for Sfoglia's country Italian fare. The private dining room tucked away upstairs can seat an intimate party of twelve.
"We discovered this restaurant after a 92nd street Y event and now make elaborate plans to ensure we get back. The food is superb. Not fussy. Rich flavours. Low key ambience, yet attentive, friendly service. I love this place!"

"I love this place, the food is consistently good and the ambience is great. However it appears that the menu has remained static for a very long time. However that is my only complaint, it's definitely a restaurant I'd return to (especially if I'm craving chicken al mattone because I know it'll always be available)."

"The maitre-d made one of my guests feel uncomfortable about the timing. We were waiting for her husband to park the car( he was 15 minutes late) we had already ordered wine and wanted to wait to order food until he arrived. The maitre-d came to the table and put pressure on us to order for him- this was not necessary as he arrived quickly thereafter, we ordered and were still under the "2 hour" allotted time( which had not been communicated upon arrival)- he was less than courteous and professional-"

"Incredible service, amazine sommelier, delicious food. Only downside is there are quite a few things on the menu I'm not sure anyone really eats/wants, so not much variety."

"Extraordinary food. Never disappointed when I come. Everything is sophisticated without being fussy, seasonal, intensely fresh and clean tasting. Waitress gave exceptionally thoughtful advice as to portion size of various options and how much to order. If i lived in the neighborhood I'd stop cooking and eat there every night for dinner."

"The ambiance is the best part of this restaurant, it's really charming and the staff was wonderfully attentive and polite. The green salad we had as a starter must have had salt poured over it in the kitchen to enhance the taste--I said something to the waiter about it afterwards, and he kindly took it off our bill, which is more than I'd expected. The pasta courses we had were excellent. The wine list was a bit of a problem. We had to pay $60 to drink a bottle that we wanted, which is more than we like to pay. Overall I'd recommend it, but because of the high price of the wine we won't go back very often."

"The ambiance is exceptional. It makes you feel as if you are in a restaurant on a Square somewhere in Italy. The food is good, however there is a very limited menu. I would hesitate to return there because of two reasons. Firstly, they wouldn't allow us into the restaurant at 5:15 PM (with 5:30 PM reservations) even with the weather being bad. We had to wait outside in the rain. Secondly, at the end of the meal, my wife wanted a second cup of coffee but they refused saying that there were people waiting for tables. We had only been there for an hour and a quarter. I felt that this was unreasonable."

"I can't believe I have been living in NYC for 30 years and I have never been to this amazing restaurant. I felt as if I was in Italy, with the same decadent food you'll find only there. Service was fantastic! I was with a friend who likes to share different appetizers an skip the main course something like tapas, which many restaurants get annoyed about it. At Sfoglia that wasn't a problem at all and the waiter even said "whatever makes you happy!" From now on I will go back there often and I would suggest it as one of my favorite Italian Restaurants in NYc!"

"Everything woulda been fine, if they honored our reservation. We were on time (actually 10 minutes early) for our Open Table reservation, but the manager had given our table to some "regulars" and asked us to wait at the bar. He was apologetic and nice, but we waited more than a half hour for our table, and as one person in our party is handicapped, and could not sit at the bar, it was unacceptable. Although we liked our food and service, we would not return."

"We were extremely disappointed with our dinner. the food was terrible. We ordered 4 pasta dishes . 2 appetizers, 1 dessert and no drinks and the bill for 4 came to over 200$. The service was very nice and the ambience is good but it didnt make up for the poor food and very high prices."

"Kept alive by the Carnegie Hill crowd, but the food is totally boring and the wine list just about starts at $50 per bottle. Nothing exceptional at this Northern outpost of the 92nd street Y."

"Had a fantastic time and food overall. The only complain would be that the timing of dishes were a little off and the service spotty but the ambience and the delicious food compensated for it. I'm glad I live close by now. If you are a two top making reservations, make sure they don't seat you behind the hostess stand at the entrance, what an awkward table, I don't know why they would even put a table there, I saw an uncomfortable looking couple seated there."

"We were so surprised at the horrible meals we had with friends this week at Sfoglia--none of us had an acceptable dining experience. We've dined there several times--sometimes it's been very good, other times not so much, but this week we were astonished at the very terrible quality of the food. We'd just had fabulous pastas the night before at L'Artusi so we had a vivid comparison. The pastas we had at Sfoglia were flavorless, way over-sauced and just bad to the point that my husband didn't even finish his--not a common happenstance. Also, his mussel appetizer was inedible as was the antipasta plate I shared with a friend--I can't even describe the mess on the plate. His dessert of bread pudding was actually excellent."

"Sfoglia is a fantastic place. We had lunch on a weekday (and had a hard time finding a decent restaurant for lunch in the neighborhood). Sfoglia's bread is divine! Just that is already worth the visit. Apart from that, we had the Sfoglia chicken (signature dish!) and the fish of the day. Both were most excellent."

"We always love Sfoglia for a delicious and surprising meal of fresh, local italian American food. It is great for so many occasions--we go after work when we are exhausted and feel like we entered nirvana, we take our out of town guests there to impress with the best of NYC, we have lunch meetings there, and (I am a physician in the area) we often see my patients dining there too! Sfoglia is more than a restaurant, it is a very special microcosm of candles, rustic elegance, creativity, and friendship."

"We came back to Sfoglia after having a wonderful meal there a couple of months back. This time we were disappointed. We were seated at a table right by the entrance so a lot of foot traffic back and forth and timing of the food was very awkward (mostly that dessert came immediately after dinner). The food was delicious, but not enough to have us coming back in the near future."

"Our waiter was fantastic, attentive, and helpful. The cocktails were interesting and tasty. The food was great. The bread is amazing, great crust, soft and chewy on the inside. My only complaint was my gnocchi was over salted, but the chicken and the appetizers were exceptional. The tables were spaced further apart than most restaurants, so it's possible to have a private conversation."

"My husband asked me to pick the restaurant for a new dining experience during our weekend Manhattan. Sfoglia met every criteria for a wonderful meal. We were first time guests but treated warmly like we were regulars. I love the warm Italian influenced decor. My husband and I both had the signature roasted chicken which was delicious. Make sure you get the greens to eat with the chicken. They soak up the delicious sauce create a really yummy dressing. I had the gnocchi which was also superior. I never get dessert but my husband and I decided to splurge and split the warm pear tart with the bourbon gelato. Heaven in every mouthful. All in all a memorable evening. We will definitely return."

"Cozy corner table witha fabulous 2006 San Gioviese wine to set the mood. Pared with appy of sweetbreads in a leek vinaigrette. Couldn't leave without tasting their speciality, pappardelle bolognese. Excellent! My wife ordered the lamb chops and can to the table a carte. So make sure you order a side. Finished the night with tasty Apple tart"

"First time that I write a review. I was really disappointed by my experience at Sfoglia. Especially because of the service. I booked a table at 7:30pm. A woman called me in the afternoon to confirm my reservation. On my way to the restaurant she called me again and was not happy at all because I was 15 minutes late. She told me that the kitchen closed in few minutes. I asked her why she confirmed my reservation at 7:30pm if the kitchen closes at this time. She just continued to repeat that I was late and hung up when I was talking... When I arrived at the restaurant she did the same thing, not nice at all, almost rude. Once we were seated three different people asked us to hurry to order food in less than 5 minutes..."
