"It was fabulous.

We selected 2 of the things off their "Tasting Menu" in addition to our entre and they turned out to be wonderful treasures.
The 2 items were the salad (braised short rib salad) and the desert (Passion Fruit mousse and White Chocolate mousse) which was to die for!I I know they were presented to be something special for Valentines Day but it would be great to see these carried on the regular menu. We can only hope!

"I went with a group of 8 people to celebrate a conference. The host staff was very courteous and escorted us to our table immediately. Even though we didn't ask for one specificaly we were given a private room which was absolutely stunning. The lighting, decoration, and spacing was perfect. Wait staff was in the room promptly with water, wine, and cocktails. Our waitress was very personable and answered all of our questions while explaining the specials. Appetizers were quick, hot, and well presented. In similar fashion the entrees were quick, hot, and wonderfully plated. The only complaint I had about the restaurant as a whole was the price structure. The food was amazing, but a bit pricy."

"I have dined at the chophouse before and I have never been disappointed. The lunch I had recently was outstanding - maple glazed flatiron steak with crab cake - prepared to perfection and exceeded lunch expectations! My 87 year old grandmother was very impressed saying, "This must be where the elite meet." That could be, but lunch is a value with salad/soup included and a warm cookie for dessert."

"I was there for lunch during restaurant week and have dined there in the past both during restaurant week at lunch and in general for dinner. I was not impressed w/the waiter at all this time around. I was seated and waiting on the rest of my party for 5 minutes - the waiter never brought water, touched base, nothing. Once we ordered, courses were brought out prior to the preceding course being cleared and even prior to us finishing a course so we had to help him juggle plates literally. I've had good experiences in the past and am hoping this was an exception to the rule."

"My colleagues and I went to Capital Chophouse during restaurant week to celebrate some birthdays and we had both great food and great service. We wouldn't hesitate choosing this restaurant again for another special occasion. The restaurant week menu was VERY GOOD and the portions were amazing for the price. I would recommend the restaurant for restaurant week and any other week of the year!"

"The restaurant itself looked nice. However, the food was just average and lower than what we anticipated. Also, the service was horrible. The waiter didn't bother to stop by and ask how our meal was until we flagged him over for some steak sauce. He didn't refill our waters until our meal was finished either. It seemed like he did not want to serve us in any way and tried to avoid us. Overall, I would not go back!"

"We were at the Capital ChopHouse for Restuaurant Week. We had a special lunch menu. The house salade with chive champaigne viengrette and the onion soup were both marvelous. We oredered the steak frites and were surprised that it came as a sandwich. But it too, was delicious. But the best of all, were the desserts. My husband had the expresso mousse and I had the warm gingerbread cake with pears. Outstanding!"

"They did not seat us at a booth even though I had specifically requested one in the reservation. We have eaten here before and LOVE the calamari however this time it was not crispy fried. The wedge salad came with bacon-again we told the waiter NO BACON. They took it back to the kitchen and brought it out with no visible bacon but there was still bacon under the lettuce. The french fries in truffle oil with parmasan cheese were excellant! The ahai tuna was great also. I know they have done better in the past. Maybe it was the stupid "restaruant week" promotion that was bringing them down."

"Overall, our experience at Capitol Chophouse was great. Our food was delicious and our waitress was great. The only bad part of our experience was the bar. We ordered drinks before dinner. Our bill came and we each paid for our drink, with two of us paying an extra dollar for the tip and one paying 75 cents over since her drink wasn't an even dollar amount (she was planning to leave a dollar when she left). The bartender took our money and then gave us around 70 cents in change. We were confused because we weren't sure if she miscounted the money or just took the tip right away. Either way, it was confusing and not very professional."

We have also visited the Chophouse in Milwaukee and was impressed as well. "We went to the Chop House for NYE. The food overall was very good. Our service was fair however. We ordered the Chowder (potatoes were a little crunchy)and the wedge to share but we actually got the chopped salad which is is something that I dislike. Our server wasn't the person that served these and did not come over to check on these until we had given up and my BF ate the salad anyway. When our entrees arrived (lobster tail and NY strip) I let her know about the mistake and she just said she thought that's what we ordered and didn't offer to fix it etc at which point my BF got confused about what he actually ordered (it WAS the Wedge)which really annoys me as a former server when servers do this.
All in all food was good, service ok."

"Blah menu. Not many exciting options if you don't care for red meat or seafood. Didn't like that it was a la cart and not many green sides. Only asparagus besides salad if remember correctly. We went all out spending much more money than can afford as it was a special occassion and didn't feel it was worth the pricetag. ($120 for the two entrees, two glasses wine, two salads, one side and one dessert.)"

"The brocolli cheese soup was awful! It had chunks of flour from the roux in it and absolutely no taste! This is the second soup that I have tried there that was not a feature soup and it was awful. I think who ever is making the soups should have to eat them before they are served. The waitress commented that the chef makes up the soups. Maybe the chef should use a cook book.

I ordered the pork tenderloin with grilled vegetables w/o the bread. The order came on bread. The waitress took it back and 5 minutes later came back with the order w/o bread but there was no sauce on the meat. It was very dry. :(

My friends ordered salad instead of fries but were still given fries.

I love the chop house overall."

"Bread and spreads were great. Wine was terrific. Salad was excellent. Entree was overcooked and dry and server did not inquire as to how the dish was until it was time to clear the dishes. Wine, bread and salad do not make for a great dining experience."

"Capitol Chophouse was nice. Service was OK but not what I would have expected from such a restaurant. When you spend a few hundred dollars on dinner for three adults and one child I guess I have higher expectations. It was nice, but nothing very special. I was disappointed since I had higher expectations."

"In my opinion The Madison ChopHouse is one of the absolute best restaurants in Madison. It is conveniently located Downtown, with great after dinner walk opportunities both around the Capital or Monona Terrace. The meal we had was one of the "BEST I HAVE EVER HAD", we enjoyed the Blue Point Oyster Rockefeller, Tuna Tartar (a must), Crab Cakes, Beef Cappuccino (a must), and of course the best Chop Salad in Madison (a must), all of these appetizers were out of this world. Then for entrees we all had either tenderloin or tuna, with multiple sides to share, everything was cooked to perfection, and the sides were perfect. We didn’t have time for desert; we had to go watch the Badgers beat up on Duke."
