"Food was fantastic and service was great. Disappointed that when I made the reservation there was no indication that there were 2 separate areas to the restaurant and that reservations must be specified to see the band upstairs. I wanted to hear the band (Jazz Music), which was the reason for the reservation at this location."

"We went to Modavie for a birthday party. Our table was on the second floor where the live band is. The music was good and entertaining. The service was great. Our waitress was there whenever we needed anything. The food however was good... not more. It wasn't bad but it wasn't anything special. The meat of the steak frites platter was a minute-steak not a rib steak or filet mignon... and the goat cheese filo was lacking a bit more cheesy taste."

"The live entertainment upstairs was very enjoyable. Nice lighting and atmosphere. Server was pleasant, however service was very slow. We waited half an hour at our table for a glass of wine to be served. If it wasn't for the trio performing, I would have left. Our meal was satisfactory - lamb chops were VERY overcooked, and vegetables were uninspiring. Had to wait a long time for the bill to be delivered. Very surprised since the restaurant was only at 3/4 capacity."

"read a lot of great reviews so it sounded like a good idea
very difficult to park - we were 4 people so the men drove around the 20 minutes looking for parking
that should have been a sign!!!
the atmosphere was quite nice
all the reviews talked about the AMAZING lamb.....well, it was far from amazing
two of us had onion soup - just okay - nothing special
one had a steak & he really liked it
another one had a different kind of steak which the waitress recommended.....she found it chewy

"This was the perfect place for our get together. The food and atmosphere were magical. A few of us are musicians so the Jazz entertainment was greatly appreciated.
We tried a number of dishes with the lamb being the most popular and the most envied. As for desserts, taramisu was by far the most enjoyed. Wine list was extensive. Only shortcoming was the lack of fun drinks such as Pina Colodas, Slushes and Marguaritas.
Staff were attentive and service excellent."

"We loved the intimate relaxed rustic urban feel to it. Not too dark, just right for the eyes, so you are still able to enjoy the movement that goes on around you. Huge wine selection you can view from the wine cellar, great jazz was not loud so you could still talk.
Excellent food - The Lamb Cavatelli, tomatoes, fennel, parmesan was very flavourful and not heavy. The Filet Mignon was cooked to perfection and sliced like butter. Prices were reasonable.
The staff were friendly, helpful and have a great sense of humour. We celebrated our upcoming elopement and Lorenzo, the manager helped us enjoy every minute. Definitely recommend to anyone and will go back there again."

"Very disappointed with the service. We have been going to this restaurant for over four years, service was terrible. We noted other guests with arms folded and frustrated with their service as well. It seems the servers didn't want to be bothered with the guests. Our server spent most of her time visiting with a friend that was at the restaurant or chatting with the other servers. Doubt if we will be back"

"We enjoyed the restaurant tremedously, the food was great, I had the Mussels and my wife had the Lamb which was cooked perfect, very tender and was delicious, and our two guests enjoyed their meal as well, they were from New York and they also enjoyed the ambiance. Lorenzo was great as well, funny and witty. Definitely would recommend and come back as well.

"The food was lacklustre, when looking at the wine menu, deciding what to have the waitress just stood at our table and waited. I had to ask her to leave, and come back in 5 mins. Ordered fish with lemon and herb salsa, got a fish with a large dollop of orange marmalade. I could not eat it . All around for the amount of money spent , it was a terrible meal."

"I kept going back and forth on whether or not to keep my reservations at Modavie. It was rated as one of the top restaurants in Montreal so I decided to go with it and I am so glad I did! It is a quiet, romantic restaurant (but can be kid friendly if they're well behaved - the tables are close together so there isn't room for a lot of movement). Our waiter was great! He made great recommendations which led to the best steak I have had in a long time! And their risotto is just out of this world. If I could make any recommendation it would be to eat lightly and get the Creme Brulee!"

My friend couldn't find the brie in her brie puff, couldn't finish her medium-well done steak for all the oozing red flesh, the ratatouille was strange and my pasta had less flavour than one i would make at home for 1/10 of the cost. "On a trip to Montreal from Ottawa we decided to take advantage of the Happening Gourmand event and made an early reservation for Modavie (6:30). Upon arrival, and without a “hello” or any greeting at all, without looking up the hostess said, “you know you have to be out by 8:15, right?” and showed us to our table. Now, I have worked as a waitress for many years and not once have I ever worked in an establishment that encouraged a hostess to give this kind of warning. It is not the first time I have been on the receiving end and every time it starts the meal with a bad taste in my mouth. It is up to the establishment to get you in and out in the timeframe they have allotted for your reservation. Quick efficient service is the way around this"

"Food taste nothing! It's expensive for something I can do better at home. Service was pretty slow too. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant at all and I won't go back again, ever!"

"Went for Happening Gourmand event. Had calamaris which were cooked to perfection and the carpaccio - unfortunately gone under too much truffle oil. For the main course, we picked the lamb and the "bavette". Both plates were flavourful and well executed but nothing mind-blowing. For desert, a tiramisu which happened to be a little boring and a delicious pannacota.
Modavie offered us decent food which was great for the price (23$ for the table d'hôte) but would have been disappointing if at regular price.
Wine recommandation was fantastic and so was the service. A good, comfortable choice for more conservative foodies."
