"I went to this restaurant with my girlfriend the night I was going to propose to her. The food was very good (cudos on their cesar salad) but the service was arrogant. Our waitor seemed surprised that we did not want to see the wine list (we do not drink) and when we asked for water he offered bottled or "regular" water. For the rest of the night he treated us like second class citizens and didnt come around to check if we needed anything while eating our meal. Other than that once again the food was great, their terasse has a nice feel to it and whats better than a nice dinner at the old port on a saturday night. After dinner we went on a horse drawn carriage ride and...she said yes!"

"We decided to come to Old Montreal from Ontario for a birthday celebration weekend. I choose Vieux-Port Steakhouse mainly based on the website. I was very pleased with my choice as was the rest of the party. Our server, George, was fantastic! He made everything even better. The new manager approached us near the end of our visit making sure we were satisfied with our experience. Nice touch."

"Overall, a decent restaurant. The interior is very inviting and staff are very friendly and on their game. The food was alright, pretty basic on the grill steak. My only "beef" is that the vegetables offered with a meal are underseasoned and warm at best. My first time and probably last time going."

"Based on reviews on OT I was expecting a little more. A dress code would be appropriate in my opinion. Not from Montreal, I was surprised to see so many patrons in jeans and a sweater/casual shirt. I was hoping for more class and romance in the atmosphere. Food was good value and the steak was good but not great(a little over cooked). Service was good throughout the night. I would probably try another steakhouse on my next visit to Montreal but I might give this one a try again somewhere down the road."

"The rib steak was done properly to medium rare however the quality was no better than a pricey grocery store selection. I've had much better rib steaks that I have bought myself from Costco... so ideally this restaurant should reconsider their meat supplier! The chicken Cesar my wife had was wonderful!"

"It was an unfortunate stroke of bad luck for the restaurant that the fire alarm went off a total of three times while we were having dinner here. The firemen even came to inspect the situation. The first time the alarm went off we were ready to leave because we were afraid we would be stuck on the second floor with a full dining room of diners. We were reassured that everything was fine and our server didn't seem flustered one bit. We thought we would be compensated for our troubles as it was a very loud and annoying alarm but we weren't. The food was good. The service was slow as I tried to hail down servers for a napkin, water, and bread."

"My wife and I had an excellent dining experience at the Vieux Port Steakhouse. We both had the VP $29 table d'hôte. The choices sufficiently varied, but why go to a steakhouse and not have steak. We both chose the NY strip loin, which was an excellent size, tender and cooked to our respective tastes. The salad, the veggies and the dessert were excellent and of generous proportion. We both found the waiter to be attentive and helpful. We will definitely return to the Vieux Port Steakhouse."

The reason I chose the Sunday brunch was that the last time I was there, the food was great. On this occasion, I have to mention that the buffet breakfast was cold and the service was under par. We had to ask several times for coffee and so did the table beside us. As a matter of fact, the table beside us got up and served themselves the coffee....not good.

"It was a VERY cold weeknight for our visit. Arrived on time for reservation and promptly seated upstairs in a quiet area with a nice view of the frozen cobblestone street below. Service was attentive and friendly. The bread, appetizers, main course, dessert were all brought out before you wondered if they were coming yet not on top of one another. We found all the food to be quite good, steak prepared as requested and accompanying fare properly prepared. A great warm evening for a dark cold night."

"We went there for their 15$ Mon-Fri Happening Gourmand menu. We ordered soup (cream of vegetable) which was delicious but a bit too thick, lamb chop which was cooked perfectly, I can't eat raw meat due to health condition but even the lamb chop was cooked throughout, the meat is still very tender and juicy inside! The dessert was a simple chocolate mousse cake which is OK but for the price, no complains!!
The only down side was the waiter who served us looked somewhat sleepy and forgot to serve us pepper for our soup and spoke to us in bilingual as if he forgot which language we spoke!
But overall, a great experience!!"
