KYO BAR JAPONAIS swings its doors open in Old Montreal this spring. The new Izakaya hones in on refined, Japanese comfort food, an impressive selection of Japanese spirits and great times with good company. While sake, shochu and beer are set to flow generously, Kyo Bar Japonais also aims to place significant emphasis on its menu of classic izakaya edibles and its creative sushi counter.
IZAKAYA A traditional Japanese tavern that literally translates to “stay sake shop.” Izakayas specialize in small plates and an extensive liquor selection. Service is laid back and never rushed. Customers are encouraged to wile the night away between sake, sochu and traditional dishes such as sushi, Kushi Yaki, ramen and several fried specialties.
"the food was great, the drinks were great but most of all, usually these trendy places the service is lackluster but not here... KYO's waiters were super friendly, charming & attentive and new about their dishes. highly recommend if you are open to eating new things.. fun night"

"I absolutely loved this place. The food was out of this world, so fresh and delicious. Waiter was great, super friendly. My only regret is that I didn't get to taste the entire menu, everything I had was delicious but there were so many good things to chose from. I guess I have to go back and try some of the other items! I highly recommend Kyo."

"Fantastic food, service, ambiance. If we lived in Montreal would eat there at least a couple of times a week. A wonderful modern take on traditional Japanese fare. Our waiter was a true gem. Would not give it five stars but rather ten."

"I really enjoyed Kyo and so happy we finally have a nice Izakaya in Montreal. The food was plentiful, tasty, well presented, balanced flavours and creative at time (especially the desserts - wow). Overall an extremely positive experience, the service is warm, friendly and not-rushed. I'm a big fan of asian cuisine in general and this restaurant is now on top of the list. This place is definitely suited for groups as well - imagine a Japanese version of tapas, small dishes to share so everyone can try something new. The drinks are really good too and they have a nice selection of Sake."

"Great place for cocktails. Beautiful decor and very friendly staff. Great way to discover japanese cuisine by ordering a lot of appetizer size plates. Izakaya style!"

"This is not an isakaya. It's foodcourt food for no experience food lover in a renovated restaurant with alcohol. Would not suggest for people who think it's japanese pub."
