***** SEAFOOD GREEK RESTAURANT ***** Located in the Heart of Midtown, steps away from Grand Central Terminal. Ammos provides upscale, authentic cuisine from various regions of Greece. The menu features a wide array of mezedes and pristinely fresh seafood as well as whole grilled fish. Ammos is the Greek word for "sand" and the restaurant’s airy, open design, light woods and weathered stones conjure the sun-drenched atmosphere of the Greek islands.
"Ammos is our favorite lunch spot. We visit very often and we are always treated with such respect. Place is always packed, but front desk manages to honer their reservations. Food and service is fantastic."

"I couldn't stop eating their bread with the olive oil Ammos has on the table! I had the special of the day "soft shelf crabs" to die for! Meletis was our server and took this dining experience to another level! Thanks Ammos!"

"Service is absolutely atrocious, which does a disservice to an excellent kitchen. Also, the bread basket and cup of olives look like they are the victim of rationing. The restaurant also doesn't even bother to provide a little olive oil or the like for dipping the bread. Go here only when Avra is booked."

"Ammos is an easy choice, even though some could argue it is a bit pricey. The atmosphere is very warm, and elegant - but comfortable. It is great for large groups but also very nice for two. The appetizers are great and you have to try a few if you have a group. I like the grilled calamari, crab cakes and meatballs. You can do the appetizers and one of the salads as a meal. The fish entrees are usually excellent. I had the braised Chilean sea bass with tomatoes and potatoes and it was delicious. The wine selected by our waiter was excellent too."

"Very disappointing. The protein on the plate was burned. There were about five pieces. When they brought back the new plate there were two pieces...still slightly burned.
I've been to the restaurant a few times. will not go back."

"I have been going here for a long time as I work in the area. This place is deteriorating every time I go there. Host and service are rude and always rushing, plus the food quality has also gone down."

"The fish was dry. We were served a whole fish for two that was deboned - except most of the bones were left in. The waitstaff overbearing and constantly interrupting my conversation with my dinner companion. The waitstaff kept putting wine bottles on our table to serve a table nearby - very rude. Oh yes, the bread tasted like something you would find in a supermarket. And the worst part? I asked for a decaf cappucino and believe me it wasn't decaf, although I did question the person who took the order to make sure it was decaf. I was up most of the night. Phooey!"

"I entertained 4 guests for lunch and we all agreed that the bread was outstanding. My pita was nothing special, the grape leaves were disappointing. The red snapper and sole were pricey. We had to go to the airport so did not have time for desert. Overall the ambiance was a highlight. The food was average and the meeting went well, but no one raved about it in the taxi back to the airport."

"We actually ate at this restaurant twice since we liked it so much. Wonderful food and very attentive service and very nice selection of wines. Both evenings, we feasted on the appetizers - sort of a "Mezze" approach - just delicious!"

"Given the location, just accross the street from Grand Central, this restaurant stands out. The price fixe menu is outstanding, very good selection and they don't skimp on the portions. Additionally it is so convienant if you communte from Grand Central, perfect place to meet friends for dinner or apps before going home."

"Love the combination of classic and modern take of Greek dishes. Saganaki was delicious, the grilled shrimp appetizer was done to perfection. While the seafood risotto was nice, my quest for a decent risotto in NYC continues. Service was attentive and I like the eclectic ambiance of this unassuming place. Worth a visit."

"We dined here on Saturday evening 4/20 and chose the Prix Fixe menu at $38. It includes a first course, main and dessert. We both ordered a dry white, Greek wine recommended by our server. He easily answered our menu questions, after tellng us about the fish dish of the day. A bread selection is served with olive oil for dipping. The courses were adequately sized and well prepared. My wife had the greek eggplant salad and I chose the spanakopitae. We both had fish selections which came with a vegetable medley or rice pilaf. It was a perfect pre-theatre experience. By the time you order a glass of wine, coffee and add a tip it comes to $140."

"The food here was excellent...some of the best I've had recently. I was, however, extremely shocked at the price of the fish that we ordered ($55 x 2). I guess we should have inquired first!"

"We took an elderly out of town visitor to Ammos and the evening was just as hoped for. The food was excellent. We had lamb and Dover sole. The service was really good without being intrusive. The waiter was very patient with us, which was appreciated. Also, part of this atmosphere was accomplished by having a corner table that you actually had some space of your own,I would highly recommend this restaurant."

"Fish is exceptional..cooked to perfection. They bring a big plate with various fishes to your table and they take their time to describe them to you. We chose the Mediterranean Snapper with several side dishes. They paired our dishes with a Crispy wine from Greece (I forgot the name). It was a lovely dinner and we will return soon."

"Two guests ordered lamb burgers that looked and tasted like charcoal slapped on a bun that I usually get at Yankee stadium. The French fries were cold and mushy. Very embarrassing."

"The fish dishes are amazing. The service was top notch (responsive & knowledgeable about the food and the Greek wine list). It is convenient to Grand Central and so a great place to meet clients and friends who need to take the train. I am a tough critic on food and service but this place is extraordinary."

"Ammos is now one of my favorite Greek Seafood restaurants in the city. The octopus appetizer was the best I've ever had, the piglet, the lamp chops and the grilled fish perfectly cooked. Our server was knowledgeable about the cuisine and the wine service handled by the manager was impressive. Buss-boys were a little forgettable when was coming to refill water glasses. In general it was a lovely and very memorable experience."

"Ammos will far exceed your expectations for fresh fish. The menu is very innovative and the presentation exciting. They have the most amazing Mediterranean wine list. The vegetable chips with tzatziki dipping sauce ordered for a table of 4 were hot, crisp, fresh and delicious. The service was excellent from the moment we stepped in the door, throughout the meal, till the moment we left. I recommend the (fagri) fish and the grille rack of lamb. We got a complimentary dessert platter. Everything tasted delicious. I would definitely come back and I would recommend this to friends.""

"From the minute we walked in to Ammos we were treated with such prestigious service! We had a reservation for 4 people and we were given the best table in the house right by the huge windows! We ordered a very nice Greek red wine that was recommended by the Sommelier Nico , it was an excellent choice!! We had grilled octopus, flamed saganaki cheese, Greek salad and Greek meatballs as an appetizer. We shared a big fish with lamb chops and a lot of side dishes. I can't believe how fresh the fish tasted. At the end we were given a complimentary dessert wine called Samos and it was a great end to a great evening out!!!!!!!""
