"Great atmosphere and superb service!! We were seated in the VIP section to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Our waiter, Kareem, was polite, upbeat, and well versed with the menu. His recommendations were on point, especially with the Calamari Salad. That was the best salad I've ever had. The portion size was large enough that I could've eaten that as my entree. The one thing I would recommend for improvement is the dessert prices. $10 for all desserts including a slice of cake is overpriced."

"Brunch wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Had the steak and eggs medium rare. Our server was nice, but it took a long time to get our food. Steak came out medium well. Was tough and fatty. I tried my mother's french toast and that was very good. I've eaten there before and they make a good burger. I'll stick to that the next time I dine there."

"Me and 5 family members met up at Chocolat and had a great time. The atmosphere was nice and although we didn't order a lot of food, I recommend more finger food choices for late night snackers."

"This was quite possibly THE WORST dining experience I've ever had in my entire life. I would give negative stars if I could. I went yesterday for dinner with a group of 5. We had a reservation however, we were told there was no table (by the extremely rude hostess). When we finally got seated (after 45 or so minutes), they put us at a table for 4 - we were a party of 5. When we brought it to the attention of a waiter that the table was too small, the waiter told the people at the table next to us (mid-meal) to get up to move. When we ordered, it took another 45 minutes to an hour to get food. Our order wasn't even prepared correctly. We requested the manager and he refused to come speak to us. I will NEVER go back to this establishment."

"Had a 5:45pm mid-week reservation. The restaurant was quiet and the service was great. I've been to Chocolat on a weekend for brunch, and this experience was much better because there was no crowd."

"Went there for a friend's birthday celebration and I found the place to be very nice. The ambiance was very appealing. They play music over the loudspeaker and it adds to the dinner atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this place."

"Service was super fast. We were nerves drinks, appetizer, and entree within 25-30 minutes. It was constant! Had my mind blown! Plus the crab and lobster ravioli was to die for!"

"We had reservations for a not so busy Saturday night. The restaurant did have a moderate amount of guests, but not to the point where we should've gone unnoticed for about 10 minutes. The service was slow, to the point where I had to ask if there was only one server covering all the tables, and when our orders were taken, it seemed the server didn't know much about the menu and how the food was prepared (I have specific dietary needs). I would've also appreciated a greater variety of menu items. The food was decent with the bill coming out to a little over $200 for 4 people (gratuity automatically included, go figure). Overall an ok experience, not horrible but nothing memorable that would make me want to go back."

"Ambiance was good. The place was nice. The service was fantastic. The food was bland. There were not many options for dinner. The fish had no flavor. The short ribs were just plain. Nothing had flavor. The grits were very good. This place was kind of expensive for food that doesn't taste flavorful."

"The food is really good, and the place is nice and comfortable, the only downside is that it's too noisy at nights. It's supposed to be a restaurant with a bar, not a bar that serves food! I've been there for brunch and it's a whole different experience, very pleasant and much better than going for dinner."

"I was with a group of 14 people, aboaut 7-8 of us ordered the same dish, French Toast w/ Fried Chicken, I couldn't understand how some of us were served 6-8 slices of French Toast and others only 4 and we all paid the same price for the same dish with different portions. For $16.00, they could have done a lot better than 4 slices of French Toast (2 cut in half technically) and a few tiny pieces of chicken... My in Phat Girl was having a FIT!!! And the Mimosas, For $12.00 for unlimited Mimosas, really? There was WAY more OJ than Champagne... If you're giving them away unlimited (like MOST places in NYC) than they could have had a bit more potency... I had a designated driver... I'm just saying!"

"We had just returned from a show at the Schomburg Library, it was a group of 11 on a Monday evening about 9:30. What I truly liked was the atmosphere, the fact that they had great salads so that you were not eating heavily, and the bread was warm. I had wine as most of us in the group, even though I did not drink, I saw wonderful drinks going around. Great music playing in the background and was not loud just nice enough. The group I was with thought everything was nice and one person, brought some more people later in the week and had the shrimp and grits said it was wonderful. I certainly will be back."

"I was not expecting to have a 'culinary delightful' evening at a neighborhood restaurant. My friend and I were pampered from the moment we sat down by wonderful 'Karim'. The service we received surpassed many exclusive restaurants I have visited lately in NYC and other major cities in US...and then there was the food!!! A 'Culinary Adventure' doesn't even come close! I cannot wait to return to NYC and spend another amazing evening at Chocolate Restaurant. Service, Taste and Presentation gets my standing ovation!!! BTW...I had never had a Chocolate Martini....that alone is worth the visit!!"

"It was a busy day at Chocolat! The restaurant was packed to the gills. It took sometime to be served, but the food was worth the wait. While we waited a while for water, our mimosas came quickly! The chicken and waffles was good, crisp waffles and tender fried chicken. There is no children's menu for brunch, which was sad, but the 5 year old gave a thumbs up to the chocolate chip pancakes. The steak and eggs were good, but the steak portion was just above your daily reccommended size. I wanted a bit more, but hey, at least I was healthy! All in all, except for slow food delivery due to the volume of guests, we had a great time! Or is that the mimosa talking :-)"

"Food and waiter service was extremely slow, short ribs were tough, mashed potatoes were stiff; spinach was tough and had no taste. My fish was overcooked to the point where I needed a knife for the bland tasting overcooked fish sauteed in butter. There were 6 green peas on top of my thawed tasting fish with overcooked, starchy & bland risotto. The grits with cheese & bacon had less than a 3rd of a piece of bacon in it & tasted as if it had been overcooked & reheated all day. Our waiter forgot to give us bread as we watched 4 other patrons served by the other waiter get bread. Our waiter seemed to be doing double duty helping to clean the private room after the party he served left & failed to bring us appetizer plates or a spoon for the grits"

"The ambiance and decor were amazing and the service was great. I loved the jazz music in the background. Definately a nice restaurant. As far as the food goes the ribs were delicious but the chicken was very bland. Not enough spice in the meat."

"My first time there and the hostess wanted to sit us by the door and back talked. Unacceptable.
Waiter was friendly, but was overwhelmed by a large table which cut out being attentive to us. Another waiter topped our Mimosa's off a few times.
Food took over 45 minutes and the owner offered a discount. My salmon was dry no aoli sauce, lemon, hot sauce and I was not offered cheese over my penne.
Not a good first class experience for a first time visitor to this establishment.
I am sure I will not be visiting again anytime soon nor will I recommend."

"Service was a big disappointment. Our waiter was nervous and couldn't get most things right the first time around. He was trying hard, which generated sympathy, but it doesn't make up for ineptitude.
The food was very good. Everything as described and very nicely presented. But the wine list is thin and over-priced, I think. In particular, the wine by the glass prices seem high (using a standard of four glasses to the bottle)."

"We went directly after work and arrived at about 5:30 on a Tuesday. The place was almost completely empty with one other couple dinning and a few people arrived to sit at the bar over the course of the night. The decor was warm yet modern. The service was impecable and I enjoyed my food very much. I ordered the Seseme Calamri Salad and it was perfect. They lost a star for food because my date who ordered the salmon burger did not enjoy their food be cause it was very dry. As a Foodie myself, I felt that menu was lacking in interesting food options. However, I hear the brunch is especially good and I plan to return to see for myself."

"aside from the hostess who refused to seat us until our whole party had arrived (there were 10 open tables), it was a great night. but honestly, who makes that kinda policy? if seated, we'd have eaten & drank more. as it was, the hostess really seemed to enjoy her 'power". sadly, her attitude (or that policy) will insure i think twice about eating there again. i picked the place because i wanted to support harlem. but there's enough competition in the neighborhood now that I don't have to go somewhere for abuse. The food was good, the table service great. But that first impression is still with me three days later as I write this. so too is how good the calamiri salad was. Ugh, stupid human tricks..."
