"The best prime rib in St. Louis, maybe the midwest at this "old school" meat heaven. The sides and salads were great, very flavorful. Service was not as prompt as some places might be, but still very good. The front room is dark and heavy by the bar--the back room is more casual, but still dressy. Probably 1/3 of the crowd is coat and tie, but business casual is OK here. Wine list is good, not great. decor in back room feels a bit plain, but the overall restaurant is a winner. Parking is easy, location is great and food is worth talking about... so give it a try. My only minor gripe is the old school service style. Plus, our busboy had absolutely no idea about anything but how to refill the water. I asked him questions and he was clueless."

"Kreis' is a consistently good dining experience. My favorites include the lamb, the strip steak, and the crab cakes. We have never had a bad experience there."

"My wife and I both ordered the rib-eye steak medium-rare on the rare side. The steaks were medium at best, chewy and didn't have the good rib-eye flavor as in the past. Neither one of us ate much of our steaks. Not worth the money."

"For a special occasion, this place fell flat in comparison to places such as Ruth's Chris or Annie Gunn's.
The service level was less than what I would expect from a casual dining chain. Our server was not friendly, not attentive and seemed disinterested with creating any kind of "experience" for our dinner. I think we saw him twice the entire meal. If you've been to Ruth's Chris or Flemings, they go out of their way to make the dinner a special occasion. Others have noted that Kreis's is a less expensive option - but only by a very small margin - so this should not be an excuse.
The food was not worth the price. The steaks were dry and tasteless. Sides just OK. Salad uneventful. Might have been acceptable at half the price."

"A favorite of ours for many years and it just keeps getting better. How is that possible, the greeting at the door, prompt seating if you have a reservation, a great wait staff and the most amazing dinner I think we have ever had there. The USD Prime Steak was the selection of choice for my husband and there wasn't ANY waste on it at all. I had something not on the menu but it used to be called Vienna Beef-if you know to ask they will prepare it for you. Mine was to die for the sauce is a secret but delicious, fillet done perfectly. Sides are good and a generous portion. We had cheesecake for dessert, very good. Bottle of wine a great anniversary dinner and a shout out to Kirk our waiter for an excellent job."

"It is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant that locals go to over and over. They are know for their steaks and burgers but they have wonderful fish as well.
It is a place that you can go on in slacks and a shirt and feel fine while others are in suits and cocktail dresses.
The front desk and the entire wait staff are very friendly and accommodating."

"We were here to celebrate a friend's birthday and Kreis' did not disappoint. When I made the reservation I requested and we received a nice table where we could talk. The food was top notch. My wife had the Red Snapper special and our friend and I had steak. Everyone raved. The meat was cooked perfectly and the salads were fresh. Service was like the restaurant decor, spotless, classy, elegant, sophisticated, and timeless. Everything was served promptly and was hot. Kreis' is locally owned and operated and our favorite go to restaurant in St. Louis for steaks. It is also less expensive than its competitors with similar quality steaks such as Flemings, Annie Gunn's, Morton's, Mike Shannon's and Ruth Chris'. We have been to all."

"This is one our our favorite steak restaurants, although they also have daily fish specials. Linda had the special Butter Fish and I had a Strip Steak which both were delicious! Our waiter, Dave was most attentive and both he and the busser gage superb service. I also noticed an cohesive and vibrant relationship among the staff."

"A fine old steak house. Has been there forever. They now have some fish entrees as well. But it is primarily a prime rib and steak place. The service here is always great and most of the wait staff has been here for many years and know what to do and best of all they do it without being bothersome. My wife and I had the crab cake appetizer and the bacon wrapped scallop appetizer. The scallop was great. The crab cake just ok. My wife had the halibut and I had one of my favorites here. It is called the Viennese Beef Tenderloin. The sauce is not on the menu any more but if you ask for it you can get it. We had some red wines by the glass and they were akk good. Its not a cheap place figure $60-80 per person or more"

"Everything about this place seems a bit dated. The service was slow and inattentive. I'm not convinced that the USDA Prime sirloin was actually Prime. Lyonnaise potatoes were cold and dry. The warm apple strudel was so cold that it seemed to have come straight out of the refrigerator. The food overall was just ok, but should have been excellent at $37/plate. We will not return."
