80 Thoreau is a progressive fine dining restaurant set in the beautiful New England town of Concord, sourcing from local farms and offering genuine hospitality.
"80 Thoreau was a spectacular choice for our anniversary celebration. It is a romantic atmosphere, with exceptional service and a menu that makes it almost impossible to choose. Everything we had was outstanding: fresh, creative, and decadent. I will definitely recommend 80 Thoreau to others!"

"An outstanding gem in the middle of Concord. The food is different, not too different that you say oh no, I would never eat that, but just different enough that you say how interesting, I have to try that. The vegetables and fruits are seasonal and fresh and the taste reflects that. The wine list is interesting with several choices in the moderate price range. 80 Thoreau never disappoints us."

"Excellent all the way around. We had a typical party of 4 and everything was great, food was outstanding, service was very good. We had been once prior and everything was good but they have stepped up a notch since and improved all the way around. We will be back freqeuntly."

"Dinner was a real home run: some really terrific, professionally made cocktails; wonderful food; excellent wine; and really nice, attentive service. Couldn't have been happier. Our whole party raved about the experience. And all this at a pretty good price point too, compared to other fine dining alternatives. Definitely worth a revisit."

"We've been to 80 Thoreau quite a few times and the one soft spot (if you can even call it that) for us has been the dessert. However this time the dessert was superb. The lemon custard was just like the chiffon pie my mom used to make (except better, sorry mom) and the chocolate pave was rich without being overly sweet or heavy. Oh yeah, the dinner was great too as usual: scallop crudité was awesome and the quail had some great seasoning on it."

"We decided to celebrate our 41st wedding anniversary with a good dinner in a quaint place close to home. We found this place on the internet and it looked interesting. Our meal was well prepared with a unique selection of items in season. The service staff was especially attentive. Overall, we enjoyed our anniversary celebration and plan to return, even without a special occasion."

"An opinion is just that, an opinion and the word that comes to mind with this one is disappointing. Great dining is more than preparing and plating good food. Service is an integral part of the experience and yet here it was lacking. One glaring example was that when a wine is listed on the menu, it is always wise to have more than one half bottle in stock. For that matter the glasses sat empty for some time showing a lack of attentiveness. After patiently waiting to be noticed and selecting an alternative wine, the glasses arrived only to have the empty ones left behind. When given an excellent rating and charging the prices charged, this lack of service is unacceptable. In closing, noise level high, service lacking, result, not again."

"Our dining experience at 80 Thoreau was very good. The cocktails and the service was exceptional. However the food was hit and miss. The gnocchi and the lamb were very good but the tuna appetizer with olives you could not taste the tuna as the olives overpowered it, and the crab cake was burnt on the top and a little too sweet with the addition of carrots. The desert of chocolate bete noir I thought was deilcious but my wife found the cake dry."

"Cannot say much else other than the title. The entire evening was exemplary and the food was off the rails. My wife and I each had an app, a middle course of pasta, an entree and a desert. Everything was STELLAR. Tilefish crudo, rillettes, gnocchi, cavatelli and hanger were exceptional. The scallop entree was, without a doubt, one of the best plates of food I have eaten in a long, long, long time.
I don't normally write reviews. I don't yelp. I know how tough it is to execute on all levels in that business. But, after eating there, I was moved to tell the world. It was a great time, with great food, in a great room, with great service."

"Perfect for an evening out or a celebration. We celebrated the high school graduation of our son and two of his friends with their families - 9 of us in all. The restaurant staff was lovely. I had called to ask if they would put a candle in a chocolate dessert. They put in 3 candles but in addition had printed menus which were headed with CONGRATULATIONS! The food was unusual and delicious. The service friendly. Even though we had the last reservation of the evening (9:15 pm) no one tried to rush us out. We will definitely return."

"We always look forward to the restaurant's menu, which tends to change with the seasons, always emphasizing flavorful dishes and, unlike too many others, serving up entrees that are a complete "plate." The service is always attentive, without hovering. The very good wine list includes a nice selection of half bottles as well. On a holiday weekend, the usually "energetic" noise level was dialed down to a pleasant "moderate" level."

"To make the long story short, order from the normal menu or the bar menu. I love 80 Thoreau and I will return soon again, but the tasting menu was not worth it. (Maybe it was a bad day... but still, that should not be an excuse for disappointment.)The tasting menu is costly but not surprising or very satisfying- I left feeling disappointed after trying their special Thursday-to-Saturday-only tasting menu in my favorite neighborhood restaurant. The items were certainly locally sourced or well informed by the chef herself, but they were not particularly memorable...The portions are relatively small considering the price as well; it seems more reasonable to order two appetizers, an entree, and a dessert from the full menu for the same price."

"We were two couples who have had stellar dining experiences at 80 Thoreau in the past, however on this recent occasion, we were all quite disappointed. The crab cake appetizer was raved about in the Yelp reviews; I asked the waiter how large it was, he said that it was big enough to share; it was tiny, fishy, no lump crab meat and cost $14.95. My veal chop ($31.95) was tough; I've had better quality veal chops from BJ's. We all decided that 80 Thoreau was no longer our favorite restaurant in the Western suburbs."

"In a nutshell, my review is: food was quite good but portions are quite small. Apps and entrees here are on the "foody side" (which is a compliment). Good flavors and good presentations and combinations of things you are not likely to find unless you go to an upscale foody type restaurant.
app: crab cake / $14. good, not great. Disappointingly small. entree: blue cheese and beet tart $21(?), quite interesting and enjoyable. Too small!
In general the apps seemed to range between $10 and $15. Entrees leaned towards $25-30.
Overall, the flavors and originality of the dishes weren't quite in the right balance with the size and cost of the portions, so I call this restaurant "good"."

"We've eaten here before, but this time 80 Thoreau really outdid itself. Crabcake app was simply the best I've ever eaten, beautifully complemented by a lovely pea-puree based sauce. Two of us ordered simple salads to start (what a waste, I thought; why not something more unusual?). Well, they are still raving about them. (The chef revealed that the "secret" dressing ingredient was... No, go ask her yourself.) Seared gnocchi were still great (new sauce, same gnocchi). Excellent entrees: bluefish obviously very fresh; chicken perfectly cooked (two ways), with lots of morels (!). We sampled the full panoply of desserts; each was really superb. House-made sorbets and ice creams: all wonderful. Service: friendly and professional. A great meal!"

"This is an attractive place tucked away the top of an old train station. No view or anything. Calm decor. The bar tender puts on wuite a show with unusal drinks. The food is great, with local and seasonal foods -- e.g. fiddlehead ferns. The service was friendly but slow. I had to signal the waiter numerous times. they seemed to need another bartender too"

"Had an enjoyable dinner with friends at 80 Thoreau and tried some of the new offerings on the menu. I had the crab cake and it melted in my mouth, yet was intensely flavorful and rich. Reminded me of 21 Club's crab cake of old. My friends tried the gnocchi with nettles and the white bean soup--all received very well. We polished off the chicken, pappardelle, and beef. We had a great time and the service was impeccable as well. Still have thoughts about the crab cake and will go back real soon."

"My husband and I recently dined at 80 Thoreau. We had Artic Char and Lamb "2 Ways". The lamb was the evening special. It was slightly over-done - we had it medium well - we should have asked for clarification on their version of medium and medium well. The lamb was grilled (1) and also in fillo dough turnover (2). The dough was slightly overcooked and a bit burned. I don't think we would order it again. The Char was very good. Appetizers were delicious - salad and scallop crudo. Service was fine. All in all we enjoyed the evening."

"The drinks were great I had the Manhattan, my wife had vodka tonic. The wine was very good we had a blend Cabernet and something; from bordeaux . Lots of people working very good service. The macerel was good, my wife's Hanger steak was tasty but a little chewy. Crowded and a bit noisy."

"Seared gnocci with bacon and nettles was an interesting starter and well done - could have been just a little more generous. Spanish mackerel with ramps and smoked mackerel fritters (2, each about the size of a cherry) was also well cooked - again, I could have used a third fritter and extra greens. The banana ice cream dessert was delicious - perfect. So the food was of a high standard, but rather let down by the ambience - our table was very close to others on both sides, which rather curtailed private conversations ( the first time we came, our table was in a different room and not so close to others). Moreover, our table was close to the bar, where patrons were sometimes loud to the point of raucous - not good. Prices were reasonable."

"Visited in a party of 6, for a friend's birthday... The service was slower than what I was used to when dining alone, but the staff and the atmosphere was enjoyable as usual. The food was good- nothing surprising, but nothing disappointing either. The lamb main dish was a bit smaller than other menus of similar price, but was cooked tenderly. The duck confit on the bar menu was a bit salty and chewy but very savory with barley. It was enjoyable."

"I went to 80 Thoreau on a Monday night with three friends. Overall, the food, ambiance and service was fantastic. We all enjoyed our dishes immensely, including the 80 Thoreau "classics" of gnocchi with morels and grilled lamb with turnovers. My friend also ordered the chicken and was pleasantly surprised at how generous the portion was. I was delighted by my paparadelle. The desserts were fun and unique. Ambiance was lovely--we were pleased to see how full it was even late on a Monday night. The bill was very reasonable too given the quality of the dishes. We will definitely be back!!"

"Servings are just ridiculously small. And the prices are ridiculously high for the amount you get. The lamb dish in particular. The menu has so many weird twists and turns that it is hard to find something to like. Sometimes restaurants can get to cute for their own good. And I am a major foodie and open to creativity! This was my second visit, we really loved the first."

"A great neighborhood restaurant, no need to go to Boston to get a good meal with good service and and a reasonable wine list. The food is always very good and the service is excellent. Only suggestion would be to add or change the menu at least a little bit so us REGULARS have some more or different choices."
