Welcome to Ceia Kitchen + Bar. The spirit of Ceia (pr. SAY-yah) is in the translation of our name: "supper" in Portuguese, the language of one country included among the inspiring stops of our coastal European culinary repertoire.

"We went for Mother's Day Brunch, and everyone at the table had a lovely time. The food was inventive and excellently prepared (especially the steak and lobster benedict, a big hit at our table), and our waitress was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere of the restaurant is relaxed and casual, but still nice enough to be appropriate for a celebration lunch or a special night out. We will definitely be returning."

"My girlfriend and I trekked to Ceia this past weekend from outside Boston, and it was COMPLETELY worth the trip. The 3 story restaurant is one of the best I've been to. The entire staff was so helpful and friendly. And the food was to die for, the whole drive back to Newton we were whining about how we wish the meal had never ended. We started with drinks and some appetizers, the St. Avion was amazing, and the duck liver mousse, olives and charcuterie was enough to make us come back and we hadn't even ordered our mains yet. We ordered the Hake and the Scallops and they were cooked perfectly, and looked amazing. We are counting down the days till we go back!"

"This restaurant is my wife and I's favorite in the Northshore and one of our favorite in New England. We lived in the SOuth End for many years and that is the mecca of fine food in Boston and Ceia could stand up to any there and probably win! We feel lucky to have this gem outside the city!!!!"

"This is the place for you. The server was great and knew her food. Let them guide you through the Cheese and Charcuterie
selections unless you know your Tapas. We grazed and enjoyed her suggestions. We ordered the special Spring pasta to share. Too small to share for 3. It was the freshest of ingredients, and delicious. The fritters were light and again singing with spring flavors. Runner beans were ok, a bit too hard. Great first time experience!!!"

"My last visit to Ceia was when they used the space across the street that is now occupied by "Brine" (Reviewed 2/6/13) and I was unsure how they had used the new space. Now on three floors with the kitchen on the second we were offered a table on the third. When we arrived it was not busy but even so it was not the fastest service. The food was excellent but at $60 a head with limited drinks, shared appetizers and one shared desert this was not a cheap evening. Service was variable and seemed to speed up when the bill was going to be paid."

"Formerly the Rock Fish bar, fabulous food, presentation, service with a smile. I would definitely go back to this restaurant and recommend to friends. Good for nights out with friends, birthday dinners, gets a little tight so not so sure about larger parties. DEFINITELY make a reservation, they had an hour wait without one. "I miss the old Ceia which was comfortable, and the food more 'real'. Without going into why we were told we could not sit on the first floor, the second floor is just horrible. It is rustic with a glaring floodlit kitchen harshing the entire room.
Ordered a sangiovese, told it was out. Ordered a Minervoise listed as a 2009 yet brought as a 2011. Then ordered a Granache that was out. Forgot what we finally ordered. This from a place that is a wine bistro.
Charcuterie terrine was a 1.5 inch square with terrible texture, served on the same slate slab as my business client... inappropriate. Ricotta gnudi was served well... good taste and texture. Did not bother with desert."

"We went on a rainy Tuesday night (and unfortunately they weren't offering their price fixe menu, not sure why, we forgot to ask) and the place wasn't very full, so I can't say what it would be like on a weekend night, but the food was excellent, the service great, we had a great waiter who let us take our time and the ambiance romantic. Nice brick walls, warm tones and soft lighting with great jazz playing in the background. The restaurant is spread between three floors making each dining room cozy and intimate. I would definitely go back."

"This was my second time at Ceias. The food was excellent. Tried the Kobe burger -- honestly, the best burger I've ever had. Enjoyed the duck pate and fried olives. The Obsidian wine was incredible. The first time at Ceias we had an attentive and knowledgeable waitress. This time, the waitress wasn't so attentive. We had to capture her attention a few time to refill drinks. Avoid floor three seating. We were packed in so tight that we were literally back-to-back with the table next to us. Thankfully the table next to us was fun so we joked back and forth about being so close."

"The restaurant has been beautifully remodeled and the service was excellent. My meal was delicious. Still our experience was sub optimal because we were seated in a tiny space on the first floor between the bar and a table for four. Twice a bar server stepped on my foot and I could not hear my partner when we tried to make conversation. We made a reservation for dinner at 5:45 because we were attending a performance at 8 pm. We had heard the ambience was wonderful...well, I am sure it is if you are not seated below people at bar seats close enough to pat you on the head. When I requested another table the hostess said "Really, this will work for you. Trust me." I should not have. Great Service requires listening to your patrons."

"It was my birthday and we went to Ceia's. It was better than expected and we had high expectations! The food and service was excellent and the Tuesday special was a real winner - the three course meal and wine. WE loved it all. We loved the three dining levels, the open kitchen and the top floor really had a fun vibe. We'd sit there next time (and there will be a next time!)."

"We stopped in for brunch about a month ago. Then, for my mother's birthday, we made a reservation for brunch recently. Both experiences were great! The food is a bit of a fusion without going over the top - just enough to make you crave more of the interesting flavor in your mouth. The wine list is quite nice both by the glass and by the bottle.
The atmosphere is lovely. We sat downstairs by the window the first time and had a group of five seated upstairs the second time. Both areas are small, quaint and relaxing. The service is friendly and knowledgeable.
I have been to a few restaurants in downtown Newburyport and this is by far the best - and the only one I will put on my list of places to go again and again."

"I'm a vegetarian and while I knew the menu contained mostly non-vegetarian items, I was disappointed that the portions were so small, forcing me to order more than I normally would to "make a meal." Also, very noisy. The food was really tasty and the place is nicely decorated, but with so many choices out there, not likely to return any time soon."

"Asking for a vegetarian meal is either met with excitement or confusion. At Ceia not only were they happy to prepare an off menu veg dish but Chef Patrick came out of an extremely busy kitchen to ask about my preferences and explain what he would like to create. I'm pretty sure I've never seen this happen before. The meal, beautiful mushrooms freshly arrived from Italy and France with house made pasta, was excellent. The root vegetable salad before was also just delicious. No room for desert but we will definitely be back to try it. The food was only rivaled by the service and attention! Thanks!!"

"There are 3 levels at Ceia's. The first level had a bar and tables -- seemed to be home to regulars and friends. The mid-level (where we dined) was all tables with the open kitchen in the rear. We did not go up to the 3rd level, but understand there is another bar up there. By all appearances, the younger (twenty/thirty somethings) gathered up there.Food was excellent - beautiful presentment. We happened to be there on a Tuesday night when Ceia's offers a wonderful fixed menu and bottle of wine for $38. Wait staff was busy and did an excellent job."

"Best restaurant on North Shore and beyond. The new three-story building is beautiful and the owner somehow captured the ambiance and intimacy of the former site (now Brine). The service remains very personal and the staff is extremely attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. The food and wine is off the charts and we have never been disappointed on any of our visits. It's our favorite place not only in Newburyport but in all of New England. We're lucky to live so close! If you ever make your way up to NBPT this should be your destination for truly great restaurant experience."
